DIY Pergola Project Plans

This document provides plans for building both an 8x8 and a 10x10 pergola using Simpson Strong-Tie Outdoor Accents hardware. Please review the License Agreement and Terms before starting your project.

Installation Steps

  1. Install all four post bases and posts.
  2. Install longer beams (C) on top of posts on two parallel sides. Tip: Attach L straps (APVL4) to beams before placing beams on top of posts.
  3. Install two knee braces on each side to reinforce the post-to-beam connection.
  4. Install shorter beams (B) on remaining opposite sides and install APVA4 angles to each inside corner.
  5. Install remaining knee braces.

Foundation View

The foundation design and attachment to existing foundation is by designer. See note 1 below.

Post-to-Footing Connection

A diagram illustrating the connection of a 4x4 post to a foundation using APVB44, SDWS22312DBB, and STN22. Sub-grade preparation and reinforced concrete footing are per designer. Minimum 4" embedment depth is required.

  1. The term "designer" means a licensed/certified building design professional, a licensed professional engineer, or a licensed architect.
