2 Device Set up
2.1 Set Up Your Audio Device
Studio One Pro automatically selects an audio device. To change it, go to Studio One/Options/Audio Setup (macOS: Preferences/Options/Audio Setup) or click 'Configure Audio Device' on the Start Page.
- Select your audio device from the 'Audio Device' drop-down menu.
- Use the 'Control Panel' button to access device-specific settings if available.
- Adjust the 'Device Block Size' (buffer size) to manage latency and processing power. Lower settings reduce latency for tracking; higher settings increase it but provide more processing power.
- Choose 'Process Precision' (Single or Double).
- Ensure 'Enable Multi-Processing' is checked for optimal performance on multi-core processors.
- The setup displays current input/output latency, sample rate, and bit depth. Refer to the Reference Manual for detailed information.
2.2 Set Up Your MIDI Keyboard
To use a MIDI keyboard controller, set it up in Studio One Pro via Studio One/Options/External Devices (macOS: Preferences/Options/External Devices) or 'Configure External Devices' on the Start Page.
- Click 'Add...' in the External Devices section.
- Select your device from the list or choose 'New Keyboard'.
- Enter Manufacturer and Device names if using 'New Keyboard'.
- Specify MIDI channels for communication (all selected by default).
- Engage 'Split Channels' to create separate Instrument Track inputs per MIDI channel.
- Select the device for receiving and sending MIDI data.
- Check 'Use this Keyboard as your Default Virtual Instrument Input' if it's your primary keyboard.
For more detailed MIDI setup, consult the Studio One Pro Reference Manual.
3 Helpful Tips
3.1 New...
From the Start Page, click 'New...' to create a new Song (recording, editing, mixing), Show (live performance), or Project (arranging multiple songs/files for mastering).

3.3 Info View
The Info View panel (accessed via the '?' icon) displays actions for the selected tool and modifiers. Hovering over interface elements also shows information here. Press F1 to jump to the Reference Manual.
3.4 Reference Manual
The integrated Reference Manual is accessible from the Help menu or by pressing F1. It includes a table of contents, index, cross-references, and a search function. Additional language versions are available via the Studio One Pro Installation menu.
3.5 Key Commands for Migrating Users
To ease the transition from other DAWs, go to Studio One/Options/General/Keyboard Shortcuts (macOS: Preferences/Options/Keyboard Shortcuts) and select a 'Keyboard Mapping Scheme' for DAWs like Pro Tools, Cubase, or Logic. Key commands can be viewed and exported from the Key Command menu.

Added bonus: PreSonus' previously Top Secret recipe for... Chicken and Andouille Gumbo
Ingredients:
- 1 C All-Purpose flour
- 3/4 C Vegetable Oil
- 1 large onion (diced)
- 1 small onion (quartered)
- 6 celery stalks (diced)
- 1 large green bell pepper (diced)
- 3 cloves garlic (2 minced, 1 whole)
- 1 lb link Andouille sausage
- 4 Chicken leg quarters
- 4 qt water
- 4 bay leaves
- 1 tsp thyme
- 1 tsp Old Bay seasoning
- 1-2 C frozen okra, sliced
- 1/4 C fresh parsley, minced
- 6-8 eggs (optional)
Cooking Instructions:
- In a large pot, combine chicken leg quarters, water, quartered onion, Old Bay, 2 bay leaves, and 1 whole clove garlic. Bring to a low boil, then simmer until chicken is cooked through. Remove chicken, set aside. Discard onion, bay leaves, and garlic, reserving the liquid.
- In a heavy saucepan, heat 1 Tbsp oil on medium-high heat. Brown andouille sausage until cooked through. Set aside.
- In the same saucepan, add remaining oil. Slowly add flour 1-2 Tbsp at a time, stirring continuously, until a dark brown roux is formed (resembling melted dark chocolate). Avoid overheating to prevent burning.
- Once the roux reaches the correct color, add diced onion, celery, green pepper, and minced garlic. Cook until vegetables are tender. Do not cover.
- Slowly add 1 quart of chicken broth and bring to a low boil, stirring constantly.
- Transfer roux mixture to a soup pot and bring to a low boil. Do not cover, as the roux may settle and burn.
- Add remaining chicken broth, bay leaves, and thyme. Simmer for 30 minutes.
- While gumbo simmers, debone and shred chicken, and slice the andouille.
- Add chicken and andouille to the gumbo and return to a simmer. Simmer for 30-45 minutes.
- Stir in frozen okra and parsley, then bring to a rolling boil.
- Optional: Crack eggs into a teacup and quickly pour into the boiling gumbo, one at a time, being careful not to cluster them. Once eggs rise to the surface, reduce heat and simmer.
- Correct seasoning with salt and pepper as needed.
- Serve over rice with potato salad.
