Tannoy QFlex 16LS-WP Quick Start Guide
Digitally Steerable Powered Column Array Loudspeaker with 16 Independently Controlled Drivers, Integrated DSP and BeamEngine GUI Control for Life Safety Installation Applications (Weather Protected)
Introduction
Tannoy's QFlex Life Safety (LS) models offer a cost-effective solution for critical life safety applications, balancing power consumption with high performance and intelligibility. Leveraging Tannoy's expertise in speech intelligibility in challenging acoustic environments, these models feature optimized driver placement and improved current draw, making them ideal for emergency voice alarms and communications. The QFlex 16LS column loudspeaker is designed for large transportation hubs within PA/VA systems, prioritizing speech intelligibility from live announcements or pre-recorded messages. The weather-proofed (WP) versions meet IP54 standards with gasket-sealed enclosures, solid aluminum rear panels, stainless steel mounting hardware, and sealed cable glands for operation in environments with moisture and airborne contaminants. The BeamEngine software allows precise coverage area adjustment. The QFlex range also supports full-range music applications and can be used with VNET subwoofers. Network implementation uses Neutrik Ethercon connectors and CAT5 cable, with each speaker having a unique address for auto-location. System commissioning, control, and diagnostics are managed by the VNET software package.
Safety Instructions
Important Safety Information:
- Electrical Hazard: Terminals marked with a lightning bolt symbol (⚡) carry dangerous voltage. Use only high-quality professional speaker cables with appropriate plugs (e.g., 1/4" TS or twist-locking). Installation and modification should only be performed by qualified personnel.
- Internal Voltage: The symbol indicating dangerous voltage warns of uninsulated voltage inside the enclosure. Do not remove covers.
- Read Manual: The symbol indicating literature (?) alerts you to important operating and maintenance instructions. Always read the manual before use.
- Servicing: No user-serviceable parts inside. Refer all servicing to qualified personnel. Do not perform servicing not described in the operation instructions.
- Environmental: Do not expose to rain or moisture. Do not place liquids or containers filled with liquids (e.g., vases) on the apparatus.
- General Safety: Follow all instructions. Do not use near water. Clean with a dry cloth. Ensure proper ventilation by not blocking openings. Do not install near heat sources (radiators, stoves, amplifiers). Protect power cords from being walked on or pinched. Use only specified attachments/accessories. Use specified carts, stands, or tables; exercise caution when moving equipment. Unplug during lightning storms or long periods of non-use. Ensure the apparatus is connected to a MAINS socket outlet with a protective earthing connection. Keep disconnect devices readily operable.
- Disposal: This symbol (♻️) indicates that the product must not be disposed of with household waste, according to the WEEE Directive (2012/19/EU) and national law. Take it to a licensed collection center for recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment (EEE).
- Installation: Do not install in confined spaces (e.g., bookcases). Do not place naked flame sources (e.g., lighted candles) on the apparatus.
- Climate: Use this apparatus in tropical and/or moderate climates.
Unpacking
Each Tannoy QFlex product is carefully tested and inspected before packaging. After unpacking, inspect for any exterior physical damage. Save the carton and packaging materials for potential future shipping. Notify your dealer immediately if damage occurred during transit. Each QFlex carton is marked to indicate each module's position in the array.

Assembly
Place each module in its respective position on the assembly area, keeping them slightly spaced apart. All electronic components are housed in the master module of a QFlex 16LS. Connect the multipin connectors as shown. Align the two columns together and attach the joining plates in three stages. Only one wall bracket is required to mount the two modules. For flexibility, the wall bracket can be mounted to either the top or bottom column and hinged on the left or right pivot points. 3mm Allen grub screws allow the QFlex to be locked at the desired horizontal angle. The hinge points on either side allow the loudspeaker to be rotated 90 degrees to the mounting structure for easy access to the input connector panel.
Dimensions:
- Column Height: 2519.5 mm (99.2")
- Column Width: 150.0 mm (5.9")
- Column Depth: 214.6 mm (8.5")
Mounting Note: The installer must ensure that the mounting surface is capable of safely and securely supporting the loudspeaker. Seek help from architects, structural engineers, or other specialists if in any doubt.
Software
The BeamEngine and VNET (Podware) software applications are required to operate the QFlex speakers. Refer to the VNET and QFlex manuals for installation and operation information. Download associated documents from tannoy.com.
Ambient Noise Sensing Feature: This feature allows the speaker to automatically adjust its output based on ambient noise levels, optimizing performance in varying environments.
