Installation Guide (Single Pole Switch)

Step 1: Turn Power Off at Circuit Breaker!

⚠️ WARNING: SHOCK HAZARD! May result in Serious Injury or Death. Turn off power at circuit breaker or fuse before installing.

Important Note: These instructions are for single-switch installations. For two or more switches controlling a light, visit www.casetawireless.com/3way for complete instructions and videos.

Step 2: Remove Existing Switch from Wall

Remove the wallplate from the switch. Carefully remove the switch and pull it away from the wall. Disconnect all three wires* from the switch.

*If your switch has more than 3 wires attached, see the "Installing Caséta in a 3-way switch application" video at www.casetawireless.com/3way.

Step 3: Ganging and Derating

Multi-gang installations may reduce the dimmer's maximum wattage rating. See the chart below for maximum wattage information.

Step 4: Connect the Dimmer

Wiring Diagram Description: The diagram shows the dimmer with wires labeled Ground (green), Black, Red, and Blue. The wallbox wires are shown connecting to these.

  1. Connect the bare copper (or green) "ground" wire from the wallbox to the green wire on the dimmer using one of the large supplied wire connectors. ⏚
  2. Connect either of the remaining wires from the wallbox to the black wire on the dimmer using one of the large supplied wire connectors.
  3. Connect the remaining wire from the wallbox to the red wire on the dimmer using one of the large supplied wire connectors.
  4. Cap the blue wire coming from the dimmer with the small supplied wire connector. This blue wire is not used for single pole installations.

Note: Wire colors depicted in this install guide may not match what is in your walls.

Step 5: Mount the Dimmer

Use the mounting screws provided, leaving them loose for this step.

Step 6: Attach the Wallplate

  1. Attach the adapter to the dimmer using the two screws provided.
  2. Tighten the mounting screws on the dimmer.
  3. Snap on the wallplate. [snap]

Step 7: Turn Power On at Circuit Breaker

Restore power at the circuit breaker.

Using Your Controls

Dimmer Operation

Dimmer Face Description: The dimmer has a light bar, a slider, an On/Off button, and a Front Accessible Service Switch (FASS).

Replacing Light Bulbs Using FASS

  1. Pull the FASS out to the open position.
  2. Press and HOLD the [Off Button].
  3. Continue to HOLD the [Off Button] and push the FASS in until the light bar flashes.
  4. Release the [Off Button] and adjust the slider to the desired low-end brightness.
  5. Press [Off Button] to save settings.

Adjusting Low-End Trim

This feature allows you to set the lowest dimming level to prevent flickering or premature bulb shut-off.

To adjust, follow steps 2-5 in the "Replacing Light Bulbs Using FASS" section above. The slider position after step 4 will be saved as the new low-end trim.

Pico Remote Control (Sold Separately)

Pairing the Dimmer and Pico Remote Control:

  1. On the dimmer, press and hold the "off" button for 6 seconds until the light bar starts blinking. [light bar blinking]
  2. On the Pico remote, press and hold the "off" button for 6 seconds until the lights flash 3 times. x3
  3. Repeat these steps to pair other Pico remote controls.

Changing the Favorite Light Level on the Pico Remote Control

You can use the round "favorite" button on the Pico remote to recall a favorite light level. The default is 50%, but you can change it.

  1. Set the desired light level on the dimmer using the slider.
  2. On the Pico remote, press and hold the "favorite" button for 6 seconds until the dimmer's light bar blinks twice. The new favorite level is now saved. x2

Using Your Caséta System with a Smartphone or Tablet

The Caséta Diva smart dimmer can be controlled from a smartphone when used with the Lutron Smart Hub (formerly Smart Bridge) and the Lutron app.

If you are using the dimmer and remote control with the Lutron Smart Hub, follow the instructions below. If using a third-party bridge, refer to that manufacturer's instructions.

  1. Download the Lutron App: Search for "Lutron Caséta" on the [Google Play logo] or [App Store logo].
  2. Launch the Lutron App: The app will guide you through setting up your devices.
  3. Use the Lutron App to Complete Setup: Add devices (Pico remotes, Dimmers, Shades), control lights in three ways, schedule lights, and connect while away.

Note: A Smart Hub is required for smartphone/tablet control.

Troubleshooting

Symptoms & Probable Cause/Action:

Light does not turn on or the dimmer light bar does not light up.
  • Light bulb(s) burned out.
  • Breaker is OFF or tripped.
  • Light not properly installed.
  • Wiring error.
Light does not respond to Pico remote control.
  • FASS switch on the dimmer is in the Off position.
  • Dimmer failed to pair with Pico remote control; see "Pairing the dimmer and Pico remote control" section.
  • Dimmer is already at the light level the Pico remote control is sending.
  • Pico remote control is outside the 30 ft (9 m) operating range.
  • Pico remote control battery is low.
  • Pico remote control battery is installed incorrectly.
Bulbs turn off while being dimmed or turn on at high level but not low.
Bulbs flicker or flash when dimmed to a low light level.
Load is Off and the light bar blinks 4 times, pauses, and repeats.
  • Dimmer is in Over Temperature Protection (OTP) mode. See Step 3 Ganging and Derating to ensure dimmer is not overloaded.
  • Reset the dimmer using the FASS: Pull out the FASS, then push it back in.

Use only with permanently installed fixtures with dimmable LED, dimmable CFL, halogen, or incandescent lamps. To avoid overheating and possible damage to other equipment, do not use to control receptacles, motor-driven appliances, or transformer-supplied appliances.

Codes

Install in accordance with all national and local electrical codes.

Grounding

When no "grounding means" exist in the wallbox, the National Electrical Code (NEC®) allows a control to be installed as a replacement if 1) a nonmetallic, noncombustible faceplate is used with nonmetallic attachment screws or 2) the circuit is protected by a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI). When installing a control according to these methods, cap or remove the green wire before screwing the control into the wallbox.
