Charging the Radio
The MMR-99 is powered by a 2600mAh built-in Lithium-ion battery. Before operating the radio for the first time, ensure that you fully charge the supplied battery.
Charging Methods:
- USB Charging: Use the supplied USB A Type to USB C Type cable. Plug the USB A Type end into a USB socket on a computer, tablet, or any USB power supply. Then plug the USB C Type end into the DC IN socket on the right-hand side of the radio.
- AC Adapter Charging: Use an AC adapter (not supplied) with a USB C Type connector. Plug the AC adapter into a standard AC outlet. Then plug the USB C Type end into the DC IN socket on the right-hand side of the radio.
The battery power icon will cycle on the display when the battery is charging. The charging LED indicator will also be on during charging. A full charge takes approximately 3 hours. Signs that the battery needs recharging include reduced power, distortion, stuttering sounds, or a flashing empty battery icon. A fully charged battery provides approximately 24 hours of playback.
Using Dynamo Power
- Ensure the telescopic antenna is in the rest position before rotating the dynamo handle.
- Take the Dynamo power handle from its rest position.
- Rotate the Dynamo power handle at approximately 100 rotations per minute (clockwise or counterclockwise) until the charging LED indicator turns green.
- One minute of dynamo charging provides approximately 10 minutes of listening time under normal conditions.
- Return the handle to its rest position after charging.
Note: Do not use excessive force when using the dynamo hand crank to prevent damage.
Using Solar Power
The radio does not need to be switched on for the solar panel to operate. Position the radio so the solar panel receives direct sunlight for recharging. The more direct sunlight, the more electricity generated.
Note: Optimal performance occurs with direct overhead sunlight. Poor light conditions may render the panel ineffective as a primary source. The solar panel is a supplementary source. Do not attempt to charge under sun-lamps, as this can cause irreversible damage and void warranties.
Tuning the Radio
- Turn on the radio using the Power button.
- Select FM / AM mode by pressing the Band button.
- Press the Seek button to scan for the next active station. The radio stops at a station of sufficient strength. The display shows the frequency and, if available, the station name via RDS.
- Alternatively, press and hold the Tuning up or Tuning down button to scan manually.
- Press Tuning up or Tuning down briefly to fine-tune the frequency.
- Adjust the volume using the Volume up / down button.
Note: A volume warning ("VOL WARN") appears at volume 15. Extend the telescopic antenna fully for best FM reception. Use the built-in bar antenna for AM reception, repositioning the radio as needed.
Preset Memory Stations
The radio has 20 memory presets for AM and FM bands, stored across 4 pages with 5 presets per page.
- Tune to the desired station.
- Press the Page button to cycle through memory pages 1-4 to select a storage page.
- Press and hold a preset button (1-5) until the memory digit stops flashing and a beep is heard. The station is stored.
- Repeat for other presets. Stations can be overwritten but not deleted.
Recall Memory Station: Turn on the radio, select the band, select the memory page using the Page button, then press the desired preset button (1-5).
Emergency Siren
The Emergency Siren can be activated whether the radio is on or off. Pressing the Emergency Siren button activates it until it is switched off by pressing the button again or the Power button.
LED Flashlight
Press the LED flashlight button repeatedly to cycle through modes: Low beam (white), High beam (white), Low beam (red), and Off.
Press the Illumination mode button to select flashlight modes: High brightness, Low brightness, SOS (three short, three long, three short flashes), and Blinking.

Setting the Auto off timer
Set the radio to turn off automatically from 15 to 120 minutes by pressing and holding the Power / Auto off button. Pressing and releasing the Power button manually turns off the radio and cancels the timer.
Display Information
Press the Info button to cycle through display options. In FM mode with RDS, it can show Program service, Program type, Radio text, Clock time, Auto off timer time, and Frequency. Clock time and Auto off timer time are also available in AM/Bluetooth/Aux modes. The display reverts to conventional time 10 seconds after the last button press, unless scrolling text is shown.
Listening to Music via Bluetooth Streaming
Pair your Bluetooth device with the radio before streaming. Pairing creates a bond for recognition.
Pairing and Playing for the First Time:
- Turn on the radio and select Bluetooth mode. The Bluetooth LED will flash blue.
- Activate Bluetooth on your device and select "MMR-99" from the list (enter "0000" if prompted for older BT versions).
- Once connected, a confirmation tone sounds, and the Bluetooth LED turns solid blue. You can now play music from your device. Volume can be adjusted on the device or radio.
- Use device or radio controls to play/pause and navigate tracks.
Notes on Bluetooth:
- If two devices pair simultaneously, both must search; if one connects first, the other won't find it.
- If the source device goes out of range, the connection is temporarily lost but will auto-reconnect when back in range. No other device can connect during disconnection.
- If "MMR-99" is listed but won't connect, remove it from the device list and re-pair.
- Effective range is approximately 10 meters (30 feet); obstacles reduce range.
- Connectivity performance varies by device. Not all features may be supported.
- Mobile phone activities (calls, texts) may temporarily mute or disconnect Bluetooth audio. This is device-dependent.
Playing a Previously Paired Device: The radio remembers up to 6 devices and attempts to reconnect to the last connected one.
Disconnecting Bluetooth: Press and hold the Bluetooth pairing button for 2-3 seconds, or select another mode, or turn off Bluetooth on the source device.
Key Lock
Press and hold the Lock button (7) for 2-3 seconds until the lock icon appears on the display. This disables all buttons except the three on top. Press and hold again to release.
Listening with Headphones
Plug headphones into the headphone socket (23) for private listening. This disconnects the external speaker. Important: Avoid listening at excessive volumes to prevent hearing damage.
Auxiliary Input Socket
Connect external audio devices (iPod, MP3, CD player) to the 3.5mm Aux input socket (22). Turn on the radio, select "AUX IN" using the Band button, connect the device, and adjust volume on both the device and the radio.
Conditional Water Resistance
The radio is water-resistant, not waterproof. Ensure rubber covers on USB, Aux, and headphone sockets are properly secured.
