Product Overview

The Airmax Weeds Away is designed to create a continuous current of water, effectively moving weeds, muck, silt, and suspended debris away from swimming areas, docks, marinas, or piers. It can also function as an aerator by pointing the blower towards the water surface. This current helps prevent fine silt and sediment particles from accumulating, which can form muck. The system includes a quick disconnect power cord and a dock mount kit (steel pole and mounting bolts sold separately). It is energy-efficient, easy to install, and user-friendly.

Safety Instructions

⚠️ CAUTION: Use caution when dealing with any electrical equipment with moving parts.

  • Never lift or drag the unit by the power cord. Use the provided mooring line to move the unit.
  • The motor is equipped with a ground wire or grounding type plug for protection. Ensure the ground wire is securely attached to a proper electrical ground, or use the grounding plug only with a properly grounded receptacle. Use Ground Fault Interrupter (GFCI) protection in accordance with the National Electric Code.
  • Do not cut or remove the ground prong from the plug. Any rework or damage to the cord can create a shock hazard and void the warranty.
  • Consult a qualified electrician for safe installation.
  • Never enter the water with the electrical equipment connected or in operation.
  • Always disconnect the unit from the power source before servicing, cleaning, or moving it by unplugging or removing the fuse/deactivating the circuit breaker.
  • When using the Airmax thermostat, the unit will start automatically based on air temperature.
  • Do not remove the end cover plate; doing so will void the warranty. All repairs must be made at the factory or an authorized service station.
  • A commercial grade breaker is recommended, with a dedicated circuit per unit.

⚠️ WARNING: This product contains lead, a chemical known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects, or other reproductive harm.

Installation & Operation

Installation

  1. Immediately after delivery, inspect the Weeds Away shipment for any visible damages. Report any damage to your dealer.
  2. Additional hardware is required to install the dock mount.
  3. Install the Weeds Away by first assembling the dock mount.
  4. The Weeds Away should be hung from a dock or pier.
  5. Place the Weeds Away at a depth that produces the best results for your specific location (2-3 feet is a good average operating depth).
  6. ⚠️ WARNING: Do not place Weeds Away on the bottom. Ensure at least 1 foot (1') clearance from the bottom.

  7. Once installed and secured, plug the electrical cord into a properly grounded and GFCI-protected circuit. Ensure the voltage matches the unit's motor (115V or 230V).

⚠️ WARNING: If an extension cord is used, it must be sized appropriately:

  • Up to 100ft: Use #12/3 wire cord.
  • Up to 200ft: Use #10/3 wire cord.

⚠️ WARNING: Do not run multiple items on the same circuit as the Weeds Away. Doing so may lead to voltage drop, overheating, or damage to the motor.

Dock Mount Assembly

The Airmax Dock Mount is an optional accessory for positioning your Weeds Away. It allows for easy adjustment of depth, direction, and angle from your dock.

Assembly Steps:

  • Attach the bail to the shroud using a 1/2" bolt, flat washer, lock washer, and nut. Repeat for all 4 holes.
  • Drill a hole into the mounting pole (not included) approximately 1 inch down from the top using a 3/8" drill bit.
  • Insert a 2 1/2" bolt with a washer and nut through this hole to act as a stopper.
  • Drill another 1/2" hole through the pole, using the collar's hole as a guide.
  • Attach the pole and bail together using the remaining bolt, washer, and nut.

Operation

  • After installation, the Weeds Away is ready for immediate use.
  • Observe the equipment regularly for any reduction or variation in performance.
  • Routinely inspect the sacrificial anode, propeller, etc., and replace parts as necessary.

⚠️ WARNING: Do not run the unit out of water. The unit must be submerged. Keep hands clear.

An optional timer accessory is available to help manage energy consumption while maintaining clean and clear conditions.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

Maintenance

  • The Weeds Away motor is sealed and filled with dielectric lubricating fluid; no additional lubrication is required.
  • When storing the unit, clean it thoroughly and place it propeller-side down in a flat, cool place to keep seals lubricated.
  • For units in locations with heavy weeds or plants, clean the screen and propeller occasionally. Always unplug or disconnect the unit from the power source before cleaning. Use a stiff nylon bristle brush. Cleaners may be used, but rinse thoroughly with fresh water.
  • Routinely inspect the propeller, internal brackets, and shaft for accumulation of weeds, vines, or string. Foreign objects can damage seals, the prop, and shaft. Keep the shaft and propeller clear of debris.
  • Inspect brackets and propeller for chips and cracks. Damaged parts can be replaced with factory parts.
  • Inspect the power cord for breaks, nicks, or abrasion. Physical abuse or damage can create electrical shock hazards. If inner conductors are visible, replace the cord immediately.
  • Units operated in brackish or saltwater require a sacrificial anode attached to the shaft, which must be inspected periodically for deterioration.

⚠️ WARNING: Do not open the sealed motor unit for any reason.

  • The motor can only be opened and assembled under special conditions at the factory or an authorized service center. Attempting repairs may void the warranty and cause equipment failure or injury.
  • For optimal operation, have the unit serviced by the manufacturer or an authorized service center every four to five years. Commercial operations may require more frequent servicing.

Troubleshooting Tips

  1. If the unit does not start when plugged in or turned on:
    • Check the power source for available voltage.
    • Ensure power cord connections are secure at both the source and the unit.
    • Check if the circuit breaker is tripped or a fuse is blown. Inspect the ground-fault interrupter. If any are tripped or blown, consult an electrician.
    • Unplug the unit and ensure the propeller turns freely. Turn the propeller through several full revolutions. Plug the unit back in and try starting again.
  2. If the unit starts slowly or has reduced flow:
    • Check the power source for voltage drop or an undersized service. Do not run multiple items on the same circuit as the Weeds Away, as this can cause voltage drop, overheating, or motor damage.
    • Unplug the unit and ensure the propeller turns freely. Turn the propeller through several full revolutions, then try starting again.
    • Unplug the unit and check for debris around the prop or shaft.
    • Check the screen for cleanliness; remove any algae or grass accumulation.
  3. If the unit starts and stops intermittently:
    • Check the power source for voltage drop or undersized service, which may cause the unit to overheat.
    • Unplug the unit and ensure there is no debris around the prop or shaft, as this may cause overheating due to overload.
