IQ5-IO Modules

The IQ5-IO range of I/O modules are designed for use with the IQ5 controller, to provide input and output channel connection points.

Features

Integral I/O bus connectors allow easy and convenient 'side-by-side' module installation or, by using wiring adapters, modules can be installed up to 300 metres apart.

Physical Dimensions

The IQ5-IO Modules are housed in polycarbonate enclosures compatible with the DIN43880 and DIN 19 size 2 standard. They are available in two widths: 70 mm or 105 mm. Integral clips on the back allow for quick release from a standard TS35 DIN rail. Modules must be installed in a secondary enclosure with a minimum protective rating of IP20 or mounted outside normal reach. They can be mounted horizontally or vertically, but not upside down or on their back. Removable clip-on polycarbonate covers provide access to terminal connections.

Hardware Variants

The IQ5-IO Modules range includes:

Input/Output Channels

The modules support the following channel types:

Cable Screening

Screened cable is optional and typically only required in electrically noisy environments. If used, the screen must be connected to the local panel/enclosure ground.

Auxiliary Terminal Block

Optional terminal blocks (AUX-TRM-16 and AUX-TRM-10) can be clipped onto modules to provide additional common terminals for 24 Vdc connections or ground/earth connections for cable screens. These blocks can carry a maximum load of 12 A.

T1L I/O Bus

IQ5-IO modules connect to the IQ5 controller and each other via the T1L I/O bus, which includes power and signal connections (24 Vac/dc, 0 V, Ground, Data Hi, Data Lo, Screen). Modules can be slotted together using integral connectors or connected remotely using IQ5-IO-ADPT wiring adapters. The maximum recommended distance between I/O modules is 300 meters. Up to 64 modules can be connected to the I/O bus, with the total number of I/O channels limited by the controller's license.

Cable Type: Screened twisted pair (e.g., TP/1/1/24/HF/305 or Belden equivalent 9841NH) is recommended for up to 100m. For up to 300m, Lon cable TP/1/0/16/HF/200 (Belden 8471) is recommended.

End Cover: An IQ5-IO-END cover plate must be fitted to the last module on the bus.

Module Power Supply

I/O modules can be powered from the controller via the I/O bus supply. If the total current requirement exceeds the controller's capacity, additional 24 Vac/dc power supplies may be needed. These should be isolated from earth and comply with relevant EMC and safety standards. The IQ5-IO-ADPT wiring adapter facilitates the connection of external power supplies.

Current Consumption (Max): Varies by module type and configuration, ranging from 1.7W (4DO) to 24W (16UIO all channels AO 20 mA).

Earthing/Grounding Arrangements

The I/O bus ground is connected to earth/ground via the controller. Modules in the same enclosure are earthed via this connection. For modules in different enclosures or when I/O bus cables exceed 1m, a local earth/ground connection is required. All DIN rails must be earthed/grounded.

I/O Module Addressing

Each module requires a unique address between 1 and 284. Addresses can be configured in the controller strategy or manually set using IQ SET or the controller's web interface. For mixed IQ5-IO and IQ3/4 systems, IQ5-IO modules should use addresses 31-284.

Indicators

Modules feature general indicators for device status (Green/Amber/Red), service status (Green/Yellow), BLE connectivity (for '-B' variants), and T1L I/O bus status (Green/Red for left/right connections). Input/Output indicators (Green) show the state of associated channels.

Service Button

A multi-function button on the module allows for assigning addresses, displaying module address, pairing BLE variants, and performing module resets.

Hand-Off-Auto (HOA) Control

The 8DO-HOA and 8UIO-HOA modules feature a rotary/pushbutton control and an LCD screen for manual override of channel operations. A short press of the 'Auto' button returns a selected channel to Auto Mode, while a long press returns all channels. In Auto Mode, outputs are controlled by the strategy. Manual operation is not a substitute for proper lockout/tagout procedures during maintenance.

Labelling

Modules are supplied with removable labels for serial number (SN) and MAC address (MAC ID), which can be affixed to panels or plans. A non-removable label with both codes is also fixed to the module's front panel. The serial number is also provided as a QR code and the MAC ID as a Data Matrix barcode for scanner readability.

BLE Connectivity

'-B' variant modules feature Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for wireless configuration using the XXXX app.

Firmware

Module firmware controls basic functionality and can be updated via the IQ5 controller. An upgraded controller automatically updates the firmware of attached I/O modules.

Field Maintenance

IQ5-IO Modules require no routine maintenance and contain no serviceable parts. Do not attempt to open the unit.

Disposal and Recycling

All plastic and metal parts are recyclable. Printed circuit boards can be sent to PCB recovery contractors. Packaging, product, and batteries should be disposed of at a suitable recycling centre, in accordance with WEEE Directive. Do not dispose of with household waste or burn.

Compatibility

Controllers: IQ5.

Installation

Modules can be clipped onto a TS35 DIN rail or screwed to a flat surface within an enclosure rated to at least IP20. They are UL rated as 'UL60730 listed open energy management equipment'. Installation involves mounting, connecting the I/O bus, optional PSUs, and module inputs/outputs, isolating connections, downloading strategy, and then reconnecting and checking operation.
