1. Contents of the Box

The box contains the IQ5-IO modules and associated accessories.

2. Storage

Storage temperature range: -40 °C to +70 °C (-40 °F to +158 °F).

Humidity range: 5% to 95% RH (non-condensing).

Note: For temperatures below 0 °C (32 °F), ensure that no condensation forms on or inside the unit.

3. Installation

3.1 Labels Used on IQ5-IO Modules

3.2 Dimensions

Refer to the diagrams for module dimensions.

3.3 Mounting Requirements

This device is only suitable for indoor use.

Modules must be installed in an enclosure with a minimum protection rating of IP20 (or equivalent) or mounted where they are protected from external conditions (e.g., in a plenum).

The unit is rated UL for "Open Type" energy management equipment (UL60730).

Note: For temperatures below 0 °C (32 °F), ensure that no condensation forms on or inside the unit.

Protection: Altitude ≤4000 m (13124 ft), Pollution Degree 2, IP20.

3.4 Connecting the E/S Bus - Summary

Up to 300 I/O channels are supported, depending on the controller license.

Maximum distance between I/O modules is 300 meters to ensure communication.

If more than 2 sequential modules lose power, communication may be affected. Bus voltage should not drop below 19V under full load.

Note: The maximum current through any IQ5-IO module's E/S bus should not exceed 1A. It may be necessary to split the E/S bus power.

3.5 Checking Power Requirements

The IQ5 controller can supply 24V AC/DC to adjacent or remote I/O modules via the T1L E/S bus power line. Ensure the controller's available power supply is sufficient for the number and type of I/O modules required.

If more power is needed than the controller can supply, additional external power supplies must be installed on the E/S bus. Note: UL standards do not permit the use of different power supplies.

Module Device Status Current (max.) Power (max.)
24V AC / 24V DC 24V AC (mA) 24V DC (mA) 24V AC (VA) 24V DC (W)
16UIO All channels configured as AO to 20 mA 1083 / 500 26 / 12
8UIO All channels configured as AO to 20 mA 708 / 333 17 / 8
16DI All inputs ON 375 / 146 9 / 3.5
8DO / 8DO-HOA All relays ON 333 / 125 8 / 3

3.6 Powering Down the Controller

Follow the diagram to power down the controller.

3.7 Mounting the Module(s)

Attach the rear mounting clips to the module in the correct position.

Slide the module onto the DIN rail. The DIN rail must be earthed.

3.8 E/S Bus - Installing Wiring Adapters (if applicable)

Unclip and remove the cover from each wiring adapter.

Note: The cover can be re-fitted on either side of the adapter, depending on its position relative to the module.

Position the adapter to the left or right of each module as required, ensuring the power and data terminals are correctly oriented.

Wiring adapters: IQ5-IO-ADPT (for mounting options, see step 6).

3.9 E/S Bus - Connecting Interconnection Cables (if applicable)

Connect connectors with retaining terminals.

Terminal Size: 0.2 to 2.5 mm² (26 to 14 AWG).

Terminal Torque: 0.5 Nm (4.5 lbf-inch) maximum.

Note: For UL classification, use 22 AWG or larger cable (copper only). Power input connections must use 18 AWG or larger cable with a temperature rating of at least 90 °C (194 °F).

Recommended Cable: Shielded twisted pair (e.g., TP/1/1/24/HF/305 or equivalent, Belden 9841NH).

Wiring Diagram: Illustrates the connections for power and data.

Earthing/Grounding Connections:

PRECAUTION: The 0V terminal AND the earth (ground) terminal MUST be connected as shown. Failure to wire the I/O modules correctly could damage I/O bus devices in the event of a transient overvoltage on one of the I/O ports.

3.10 E/S Bus - Connecting Additional Power Supplies (if applicable)

Example: A group of three modules powered from the controller and two groups of three modules powered from external power supplies.

IMPORTANT: Not permitted for installations complying with UL standard.

WARNING: External power supply must have an isolated output and comply with relevant EMC and safety standards.

PRECAUTION: The maximum current that can flow for power via the E/S bus when passing through any module must not exceed 1A.

Connect the earth connection to the screening or local earth/ground terminal as necessary (see step 8).

External power supply with isolated output: 24V AC ±20%, 50/60 Hz; 24V DC ±20%.

PRECAUTION: The 0V terminal AND the earth (ground) terminal MUST be connected as shown. Failure to wire the I/O modules correctly could damage I/O bus devices in the event of a transient overvoltage on one of the I/O ports. The 24V cables from each power supply (including the controller) must be isolated.

3.11 E/S Bus - Fitting the Wiring Adapter Covers (where necessary)

Follow the diagram to fit the covers.

3.12 E/S Bus - Fitting the End Cover to the Last Module

The IQ5 controller is supplied with a cover. Replacement covers are available (e.g., IQ5-IO-END-10). The cover can be fitted on either side of the module as required.

3.13 Removing the Module Terminal Cover

Follow the diagram to remove the terminal cover.

3.14 Connecting Inputs/Outputs - Summary

Connect connectors with retaining terminals (as supplied).

Terminal Type: Screw, Push-in.

Conductor Size: IEC: 0.2 to 2.5 mm², UL: 26 to 12 AWG.

Stripping Length: 6-7 mm (Screw), 9 mm (Push-in).

Terminal Torque: 0.5 Nm (4.5 lbf-inch) maximum.

Recommended Cable: TP/1/1/22/HF/200 (Belden 8761) for DI and UIO; Depends on application for DO.

Note: For UL classification, use 22 to 14 AWG copper cable.

Shielded cable is optional and usually not required unless passing through electrically noisy environments. If used, the screening should be connected to the local panel/enclosure earth (e.g., using an auxiliary terminal block; see step 14) and left unterminated at the end.
