Blue-White F-420 Flowmeter Instruction Manual
Brand: Blue-White
Model: F-420 Series
Product Overview
This document provides instructions for the Blue-White F-420 Series In-Line Flowmeter. The flowmeter is designed for easy installation and accurate measurement.
Note: Plastic tubing is inserted into the flowmeter to prevent damage during shipping. Please remove this tubing before installing the flowmeter.
Manufactured in the USA, this product is ISO 9001:2015 certified, reflecting a commitment to quality since 1957.
The flowmeter features a clear tube with dual scales for measuring flow rate in Gallons Per Minute (GPM) and Liters Per Minute (LPM). The scale is a permanent dual scale silkscreen.
Installation Guideline
Follow these guidelines for accurate and safe installation:
- The flowmeter must be installed in a vertical plane to ensure accuracy. Misalignment may damage the flowmeter and cause o-ring seals to leak.
- Use only PTFE tape on the threaded adapters. Pipe dope and glue can damage the polysulfone meter body and fittings. Alternatively, install the flowmeter after all glued fittings have dried and system fumes have been purged.
- Mounts and supports must be sturdy enough to support the plumbing and prevent vibration. Vibration and heavy loads can damage the meter.
- Avoid imposing a sudden burst of flow to the meter. Solenoid valves can cause such bursts, leading to the float impacting the top float stop with destructive force.
- The maximum fluid temperature is dependent on the working pressure. High pressure and temperature can damage the meter. Refer to the Temperature vs. Pressure chart for guidance.
Temperature vs. Pressure Chart
This chart illustrates the relationship between fluid temperature and pressure for safe operation. The X-axis represents Pressure in PSIg / BAR, and the Y-axis represents Temperature in Fahrenheit (°F) / Celsius (°C). The chart shows a downward sloping line indicating that as pressure increases, the maximum allowable temperature decreases. For example, at 0 PSIg / 0 BAR, the maximum temperature is 150°F / 65.6°C, while at 150 PSIg / 10.3 BAR, the maximum temperature is 70°F / 21.1°C.
Exploded View and Parts List
The exploded view diagram shows the assembly of the F-420N series meter. The numbered components correspond to the parts listed below. The tapered tube can be cleaned with a soft bottle brush using a mild soap and water solution. Note the float's "up" position during cleaning.

Application Notes
While meters may be suitable for other chemicals, Blue-White cannot guarantee their suitability. It is the user's responsibility to determine the suitability of the flowmeter for their specific application. Flowmeters are tested and calibrated for water only.
Blue-White Limited Warranty
Blue-White products are warranted for a specific time from the date of purchase (proof of purchase required). The product will be repaired or replaced at Blue-White's discretion if failure occurred due to a defect in material or workmanship, not due to operation outside normal parameters as defined in the manual. Warranty status is verified by the product's serial label and sales invoice/receipt.
Variable Area and Digital Flow meters are warranted for 1 year from the date of purchase. The S6A ultrasonic flow meter is warranted for 2 years.
What is Not Covered
- Freight to the factory or service center.
- Products that have been tampered with or are in pieces.
- Damage resulting from misuse, carelessness (e.g., chemical spills, abuse), lack of maintenance, or unauthorized alteration.
- Damage by faulty wiring, power surges, or acts of nature.
- Damage from meter misalignment, improper installation, over-tightening, use of non-recommended chemicals, adhesives, pipe dopes, excessive heat or pressure, or allowing the meter to support related piping weight.
Procedure for In-Warranty Repair
Warranty service must be performed by the factory or an authorized service center. Obtain an RMA (Return Material Authorization) number from the factory or local repair center. It is recommended to include foot strainers and injection/check valve fittings if they might be part of the problem. Decontaminate, dry, and carefully pack the product for repair. Include a brief problem description and proof of purchase. Prepay all shipping and insurance costs. COD shipments are not accepted. Improper packaging damage is the sender's responsibility. The factory covers return shipping for in-warranty repairs.
