Toshiba Super Modular Multi System Air Conditioner
Branching Joint (Only for R410A)
Model: RBM-BY55E, BY105E, BY205E, BY305E
Document Reference: EH84105401
Thank you for purchasing the "Branching Joint" for TOSHIBA Air Conditioner. Before starting the installation work, please read this manual carefully and install the product properly.
Precautions for Safety
Please read the "PRECAUTIONS FOR SAFETY" described in the Installation Manual of the Super Modular Multi System outdoor unit.
For piping material and size of the refrigerant pipes, refer to the Installation Manual of the Super Modular Multi System outdoor unit.
Installation work must be carried out by following this installation manual and using exclusive tools and pipes for the new refrigerant (R410A).
Ask an authorized dealer or qualified installation professional to install this product.
The parts shown in the right table are included in this package. Check those parts.
1. Connecting Method
Select the socket or plural socket fitting to the pipe diameter connected to the indoor unit. When using a plural socket, cut the pipe with a pipe cutter as shown in the example.
Example of Plural Socket (e.g., 91, 92, 94):
Diagram Description: Illustrates a pipe being inserted into a socket. A notch is present on the socket, indicating the connection side. For plural sockets, a diagram shows the correct cut position using a pipe cutter.
Pipe Insertion Diameter (D) and Dimensions (A) (rough standard):
Pipe Insertion Diameter (D) | Dimensions (A) (mm) |
---|---|
Ø9.5 | 10 |
Ø12.7 | 11 |
Ø19.1 | 17 |
After cutting the pipe, remove burrs and polish the end surface. If deformation occurs, use a flare tool to improve pipe insertion.
Confirm that the branching joint, socket, and inside of the plural socket are free from dust, water, or foreign matter.
⚠️ CAUTION: When brazing refrigerant pipes, use nitrogen first to prevent inner pipe oxidation. Oxidization scale can cause refrigerant cycle clogging and malfunction.
Use new pipes for refrigerant lines and prevent water and dust ingress during installation.
Diagram Description (Horizontal Installation): Shows a branching pipe installed horizontally. It must maintain a gradient within ±15 degrees. Hanging metals (locally procured) should be used as support after heat insulators are applied.
2. Heat Insulating Method
To prevent condensation drip, ensure no gap exists between the branching joint's heat insulator (included) and the pipe's heat insulator (locally procured). Wrap the seam with heat insulators of 10 mm or more thickness (locally procured).
Use heat insulators with a heat resistance of 120 °C or more for gas-side pipes.
⚠️ CAUTION: Condensation may occur on the heat insulator depending on the ceiling's internal atmosphere. If the ceiling interior is subject to high temperature and humidity, add glass wool (16-20 kg/m³, 10mm thick or more) for sufficient insulation.
Diagram Description (Gas/Liquid Side Insulation): Illustrates the application of heat insulators. It shows the branching joint, gas side pipe, liquid side pipe, and sockets. Key points emphasized are "No gap" between the included insulator, locally procured pipe insulator, and locally procured seam insulator (10mm+ thickness). The diagram also shows the connection to the outdoor unit and other branching pipes/indoor units.
Diagram Description (Vertical Installation): Shows branching pipes installed vertically, indicating that both horizontal and vertical installations are possible for even flow distribution.
Once heat insulators are applied, tape up the ends of the heat insulator.
Parts List
NOTE:
- ( ): indicates outer diameter.
- For sockets, the side with a notch is the side to connect a pipe. Parts 51, 58, 59, 61, 62, 70 are without notch.
