La Crosse V41CA Wi-Fi Professional Weather Station Setup Guide
Model Number: V41CA
Basics
Initial Setup
This section covers the initial setup of your weather station, including powering up the sensors and the main station unit.
Installing the Wind Cups (if needed)
To install the wind cups:
- Remove the Cyclone Sensor, Wind Cups, and Mini Screwdriver. Note the flat edges on the Cyclone Sensor head and the underside of the Wind Cups.
- Align the flat edges and place the Wind Cups on top of the Cyclone Sensor.
- Use the Mini Screwdriver to carefully tighten the screw on the side of the cups into the flat edge of the post.
- Gently pull up on the cups to ensure they are secure. If they detach, repeat from step 2.
Power Up
- Thermo-Hygro Sensor (LTV-TH2i): Install 2 fresh "AA" batteries, observing polarity. Replace the battery cover. A blue LED will flash during transmission.
- Cyclone Sensor (LTV-WSDR1): Install 3 fresh "AA" batteries, observing polarity. Replace the battery cover.
- Weather Station (V41CA): Plug the 5V Power Adapter into an outlet and then into the Power Jack on the bottom of the station. Remove the Insulation Tab from the station's battery compartment.
Approximately 30 seconds after powering on, the station will automatically enter the Settings Menu. Sensor data may take up to 10 minutes to appear on the station's screen.
La Crosse View
Stay connected to your home environment anytime, anywhere with the La Crosse View app. Monitor conditions and set custom alerts. Connecting the station is optional; it functions as a standalone unit without Wi-Fi, but Wi-Fi connection enables advanced features and saves setup time.
Download the La Crosse View App
Visit the App Store or Google Play Store to download the free La Crosse View app onto your mobile device.
Launch the App
Open the La Crosse View app and follow the on-screen instructions to create an account, add new devices, and connect your station to your Wi-Fi network.
Connecting Your Station to the App
Once your La Crosse View account is created, you can add your station and connect it to your home router using the app. You will need your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password. Ensure your mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
New User Initial Setup

Sensors
Sensor Placement & Mounting
For Accurate Thermo-Hygro Sensor Measurements
- Use the top hole to hang the sensor vertically on a wall, or insert a mounting screw through the front.
- Mount on a north-facing wall or in a shaded area (under an eave or deck rail) to avoid sun-induced inaccuracies.
- Maximum wireless transmission range is up to 400 feet (121 meters) in open air, without obstructions.
- Mount vertically to allow proper moisture drainage.
- For online video instruction, visit: bit.ly/th_sensor_mounting.
For Accurate Cyclone Sensor Measurements
- Use the built-in Bubble Level to ensure the Cyclone Sensor (especially the rain gauge) is mounted level.
- Ensure the Solar Panel faces South to optimize battery life and wind direction data.
- Mount the sensor on the tallest object in the area. Avoid positioning it parallel to or below eaves, roof lines, trees, or other obstructions that could affect wind and rain readings.
- Ensure all screws on the Mounting Bracket, Wind Cups, Wind Vane, and Battery Compartment are securely fastened.
- Mount the Cyclone Sensor with the Wind Cups on top. Refer to page 02 for wind cup installation.
Cyclone Sensor Mounting
Basic Installation
Common mounting options include fence posts, poles, decks, and mailboxes. These locations provide accurate ground-level data, but wind readings may differ from local stations due to obstructions.
- Mount the Mast to a flat surface using the four provided screws.
- Place the Cyclone Pro Sensor on top of the Mast, ensuring the Solar Panel faces South.
- Check the integrated Bubble Level or use your own across the Rain Funnel to ensure the sensor is level.
- Secure the Cyclone Sensor to the Mast by tightening the side screws. Double-check that the sensor remains level after tightening.
Flexible Installation
This configuration allows attachment to angled locations and easy adjustments to ensure the Mast and Sensor are level. Use the Hand Screw to attach the sensor to the Mast.
Advanced Installation
Options include tripods, wall mounts, chimney mounts, etc., often combined with U-bolts for cylindrical conduits using an Adjustable Base. These may require additional equipment or professional assistance.
Diagram Description: Shows examples of Freestanding Pole Setup and Tripod Setup, with maximum pole diameter noted.
Cleaning the Rain Sensor
Regular cleaning ensures accurate rainfall measurements.
- Remove the Rain Funnel by twisting it counter-clockwise and lifting.
- Clear any leaves, insects, or debris to allow the Rain Tipper to rock freely. Check and clear the Drainage Holes on the underside of the sensor.
- Re-install the Rain Funnel by placing it back into the sensor and twisting clockwise until secure. It should lock into place when an arrow aligns with the Lock/Unlock Line.
Tip: Remove the Cyclone Sensor's batteries before cleaning to prevent accidental rain readings.
