La Crosse Technology - Model V41
Introduction
This document provides instructions for setting up and using the La Crosse Technology V41 Wi-Fi Professional Weather Station. It covers initial setup, connecting to the La Crosse View app, understanding various weather data displays, sensor installation, and support information.
BASICS
Initial Setup
The La Crosse Technology V41 Weather Station is a Wi-Fi enabled device that provides comprehensive weather monitoring for your home. It consists of a main display station and external sensors.
Components:
- Thermo-Hygro Sensor (LTV-TH2i): Measures indoor and outdoor temperature and humidity.
- Cyclone Sensor (LTV-WSDR1): Measures wind speed, wind direction, and rainfall.
- Weather Station (V41): The main display unit that receives data from sensors and connects to Wi-Fi.
Power Up Instructions:
- Thermo-Hygro Sensor: Install 2 fresh "AA" batteries according to polarity and replace the battery cover. The blue LED light will flash when transmitting.
- Cyclone Sensor: Install 3 fresh "AA" batteries according to polarity and replace the battery cover.
- Weather Station: Insert the 5V Power Adapter into an outlet, and then plug it into the Power Jack on the bottom of the station. Next, remove the Insulation Tab from the Station's Battery Compartment.
About 30 seconds after powering on the station, it will automatically enter the Settings Menu. Refer to page 07 for more details on navigating the Settings Menu.
Note: It may take up to 10 minutes for sensor data to appear on your station's screen.

SENSORS
Sensor Placement & Mounting
For Accurate Thermo-Hygro Sensor Measurements:
- Use the hole at the top to hang from a nail, or insert a mounting screw through the front.
- Mount on a north-facing wall or in a shaded area (under an eave or deck rail is preferred) to avoid sun inaccuracies.
- Maximum wireless transmission range is up to 400 feet (121 meters) in open air.
- Mount vertically to allow moisture to drain properly.
- For video instruction visit: bit.ly/th_sensor_mounting
For Accurate Cyclone Sensor Measurements:
- Use the built-in Bubble Level to ensure the Cyclone Sensor (especially the rain gauge) is mounted level.
- Ensure the Solar Panel faces South for optimal battery life and wind direction data.
- Mount the Cyclone Sensor on the tallest object in your area, avoiding obstructions like eaves, roof lines, or trees.
- Ensure all screws on the Mounting Bracket, Wind Cups, Wind Vane, and Battery Compartment are securely fastened.
- Mount with the Wind Cups on top. See page 02 for wind cup installation.
Diagram Description: Shows a Thermo-Hygro sensor mounted on a wall and a Cyclone sensor mounted on a mast with a bubble level indicating it is level. The solar panel on the Cyclone sensor is shown facing South.
Cyclone Sensor Mounting
Basic Installation
Fence posts, poles, decks, and mailboxes are common mounting options. While convenient, wind readings may be affected by obstructions at ground level compared to local reporting stations.
- Mount the Mast to a flat surface with four screws.
- Place the Cyclone Pro Sensor on top of the Mast, ensuring the Solar Panel faces South.
- Check the integrated Bubble Level or use your own across the Rain Funnel to ensure the sensor is level.
- Secure the Cyclone Sensor to the Mast by tightening screws on the side. Double-check that the sensor remains level after tightening.
Flexible Installation
This configuration allows attachment to angled locations and easy adjustments to ensure the Mast and Sensor are level.
Diagram Description: Shows the flexible installation of the Cyclone Sensor using a hand screw to attach it to a bracket, allowing for angled mounting. It also shows advanced installation options like freestanding pole setups and tripod examples.
Advanced Installation
Options include tripods, wall mounts, chimney mounts, and more. These can be combined with U-bolts for attachment to cylindrical conduits using an Adjustable Base. These may require additional equipment or professional help.
Cleaning the Rain Sensor
- Remove the Rain Funnel by twisting counter-clockwise and lifting.
- Clear any leaves, insects, or debris to allow the Rain Tipper to rock freely. Check and clear Drainage Holes on the underside.
- Re-install the Rain Funnel by placing it back into the sensor and twisting clockwise until secure.
- Ensure the funnel locks into place when an arrow aligns with the Lock/Unlock Line.
Tip: Remove the Cyclone Sensor's batteries before cleaning to avoid accidental rain readings.
Diagram Description: Illustrates the steps for cleaning the rain sensor: removing the funnel, clearing debris, re-installing the funnel, and checking the lock mechanism.
