1. VXD EXPERIENCE
The "VXD" is a system developed through a joint research project between Yamaha and Keio University that allows users to control the bass drum with their voice. Utilizing Yamaha's proprietary "Real Sound Viewing*2" technology, the system detects the "don" sound from a performer's voice via a microphone and sensors. This triggers a vibration generator inside the bass drum to produce sound. The development of this system began with a proposal from Tomofumi Yamaguchi, the drummer for the rock band RADWIMPS. In 2009, Yamaguchi experienced musician's dystonia affecting both his legs, which impaired his control during performances, leading to a hiatus from 2015. In December 2024, Yamaha invited Yamaguchi to an event at Yamaha Sound Crossing Shibuya, where he performed using a drum set equipped with "VXD". This is the first opportunity for the public to see and experience "VXD".
*The name "VXD" is derived from the initials of "Voice," "Vocal," and "Drum."

*2 "Real Sound Viewing"
This is a system Yamaha has been developing with the concept of "live sound in a vacuum pack," which preserves and reproduces artists' performances as they are. It digitizes performances, records them accurately, and faithfully reproduces the artist's performance through automated playback of acoustic instrument sounds. By combining this with video of the performing artist, it realizes immersive virtual live performances.
