Nokia Phone Back Cover Replacement
Use this guide to replace a damaged or broken back cover on your Nokia Phone.
You can also use this guide to replace a broken fingerprint reader on your Nokia Phone.
Tools Required
- SIM Card Eject Tool (1)
- iFixit Opening Picks (Set of 6) (1)
- Tweezers (1)
- Phillips #00 Screwdriver (1)
- Spudger (1)
Step 1: Eject the SIM Card Tray
Insert a SIM card eject tool into the small hole in the SIM card tray, located on the upper left edge of the phone. Press firmly to eject the tray.
Step 2: Remove the SIM Card Tray
Remove the SIM card tray from the phone.
Note: When inserting a SIM card, ensure it's in the proper orientation inside the tray. A thin rubber gasket around the SIM tray provides water and dust protection. If this gasket is damaged or missing, replace it or the entire SIM tray to protect your phone's internal components.
Step 3: Insert an Opening Pick
The back cover of the Nokia Phone is held in place by plastic clips. Insert an opening pick under the small notch in the SIM card tray slot.
Step 4: Release the Plastic Clips (Left Edge)
Position the opening pick at a steep angle downward between the back cover and the screen assembly. Slide the opening pick along the left edge of your phone to release the plastic clips.
Step 5: Release the Plastic Clips (Bottom Edge)
Slide the opening pick along the bottom edge of your phone to release the plastic clips.
Step 6: Release the Plastic Clips (Right Edge)
Slide the opening pick along the right edge of your phone to release the plastic clips.
Step 7: Release the Plastic Clips (Top Edge)
Slide the opening pick along the top edge of your phone to release the plastic clips.
Caution: Do not separate the back cover all the way yet! The fingerprint reader is still connected to the back cover.
Step 8: Open the Back Cover
Carefully fold the back cover to the left edge of your phone, like opening the cover of a book. Take care not to strain or tear the fingerprint reader cable during this procedure.
Step 9: Unfasten the Fingerprint Reader Bracket
Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the 3.8 mm-long screw securing the fingerprint reader bracket.
Step 10: Remove the Fingerprint Reader Bracket
Use a pair of tweezers to remove the fingerprint reader bracket.
Step 11: Disconnect the Fingerprint Reader
Use a spudger to disconnect the fingerprint reader by prying the connector straight up from its socket.
Note: To re-attach press connectors like this one, carefully align and press down on one side until it clicks into place, then repeat on the other side. Do not press down on the middle. If the connector is misaligned, the pins can bend, causing permanent damage.
Remove the back cover.
Step 12: Release the Fingerprint Reader
Use tweezers to separate the top of the fingerprint reader from its recess in the back cover. Repeat this procedure for the bottom of the fingerprint sensor.
Step 13: Remove the Fingerprint Reader
Remove the fingerprint reader.
Step 14: The Back Cover Remains
Only the back cover remains. Compare your new replacement part to the original part. You may need to transfer remaining components or remove adhesive backings from the new part before installing.
