RJ660 61 key Multi-function Keyboard User Guide

Important Information

Be sure to obey the following information so as not to harm yourself or others or damage this instrument or other external equipment.

Power adapter:

  • Please use only the specified AC adapter supplied with the product. An incorrect or faulty adapter can cause damage to the electronic keyboard.
  • Do not place the AC adapter or power cord near to any source of heat such as radiators or other heaters.
  • To avoid damaging the power cord, please ensure that heavy objects are not placed on it and that it is not subject to stress or over bending.
  • Check the power plug regularly and ensure it is free from surface dirt. Do not insert or unplug the power cord with wet hands.

Do not open the body of the electronic keyboard:

  • Do not open the electronic keyboard or try to disassemble any part of it. If the device is not functioning correctly, please stop using it and send it to a qualified service agent for repair.

Use of the electronic keyboard:

  • To avoid damaging the appearance of the electronic keyboard or damaging the internal parts please do not place the electronic keyboard in a dusty environment, in direct sunlight or in places where there are very high or very low temperatures.
  • Do not place the electronic keyboard on an uneven surface. To avoid damaging internal parts do not place any vessel holding liquid onto the electronic keyboard as spillage may occur.

Maintenance:

  • To clean the body of the electronic keyboard wipe it with a dry, soft cloth only.

Connection:

  • To prevent damage to the speaker of the electronic keyboard please adjust the volume of any peripheral device to the lowest setting and gradually adjust the volume accordingly to an appropriate level once the music is playing.

During operation:

  • Do not use the keyboard at the loudest volume level for a long period.
  • Do not place heavy objects onto the keyboard or press the keyboard with undue force.
  • The packaging should be opened by a responsible adult only and any plastic packaging should be stored or disposed of appropriately.

Front Panel

The front panel features the keyboard keys and various control buttons and indicators. Key controls include:

External Connections

The rear panel features the following connection ports:

  • AUDIO IN (1): For connecting external audio sources for playback.
  • MIC (2): MIC Input for an electret microphone.
  • PHONES (3): Headphone Output.
  • DC IN 12V (4): DC 12V Power Input.

LCD Display

The LCD Screen (37) provides information on the current settings and modes. It displays:

  • TONE, RHYTHM or DEMO song selection (1)
  • Tempo value of rhythm and song in BPM (2)
  • Metronome status for rhythm and song (3)
  • Mode Indicator 1 (4)
  • Sound Equalizer settings (5)
  • Volume level display (6)
  • Mode Indicator 2 (7)
  • Key Indicator for teaching modes (8)

Preparation Before First Use

Power

Use of AC/DC power adapter:

Use the AC/DC power adapter supplied with the keyboard or a compatible adapter with DC 12V output voltage and 500mA output current with a centre positive plug. Connect the DC plug into the 12V power socket on the rear of the keyboard, and then connect the other end into a mains wall socket and switch on.

USA / Canada Connection Example: DC PLUG -> POWER ADAPTER (DC 9-12V) -> MAINS SOCKET

UK Connection Example: DC PLUG -> POWER ADAPTER (DC 9-12V) -> MAINS SOCKET

Caution: When the keyboard is not in use, unplug the power adapter from the mains power socket.

Battery operation:

Open the battery lid on the underside of the keyboard and insert 6 x 1.5V Size AA alkaline batteries. Ensure the batteries are inserted with the correct polarity and replace the battery lid.

Caution: Do not mix old and new batteries. Do not leave batteries in the keyboard if it will not be used for an extended period, as this can cause damage from leaking batteries.

Jacks and Accessories

Using headphones:

Connect a 3.5mm headphone plug into the [PHONES] jack on the rear of the keyboard. The internal speaker will automatically cut off when headphones are connected. Headphones are not included.

Connecting External Equipment

Connecting an Amplifier or Hi-Fi Equipment:

To connect to an external amplifier or Hi-Fi system, first turn off the keyboard and the external equipment. Connect one end of a stereo audio cable (not included) into the LINE IN or AUX IN socket on the external equipment, and the other end into the [PHONES] jack on the rear of the keyboard.

Connecting a phone or audio device to the AUX Input:

To play music from a phone or mobile device through the keyboard's speakers, insert one end of a stereo audio cable into the AUDIO IN socket on the back of the keyboard and connect the other end to your phone or audio device. Ensure the keyboard is switched on. Use the phone's volume control to manage the music volume. An AUX in cable is not included.

Connecting a Microphone:

Connect a 3.5mm microphone plug into the [MIC] jack on the rear of the keyboard. The keyboard requires an electret or condenser microphone, which is not supplied.

Stand Assembly

To assemble the keyboard stand:

  1. Use the supplied screws and Allen key to assemble the stand frame.
  2. Attach the bottom feet (2) and top feet (3) to the stand frame (1).
  3. Secure the keyboard to the stand using the straps and screws connected to the top bars.

Details for adjusting height and screw holes are provided in the original diagram.

Keyboard Operation

Power and Volume

Power control:

Press the [POWER] button to turn the keyboard on or off. The LCD display will light up when the power is on.

Adjustment of the Master Volume:

Turn the [MAIN VOLUME] knob clockwise to increase the volume and anti-clockwise to decrease it.

Tone

Tone Selection:

When the keyboard is switched on, the default TONE is '000' Piano. To change the tone, press the [TONE] button, then enter the desired tone number (0-9) using the numerical keypad. Tones can also be changed using the +/- buttons. Refer to Appendix II for a list of available tones.

Effect & Control

Split Keyboard:

Press the [SPLIT] button to activate Split Keyboard mode. The keyboard will divide into two sections at the 24th key from the left. You can select the TONE for the right-hand side using the numerical keypad (0-9). The left-hand side retains its previously selected TONE. In Split Keyboard mode, the pitch of the left-hand keys is raised by one octave, and the right-hand keys are lowered by one octave. Press the [SPLIT] button again to exit this mode.

Sustain:

Press the [SUS] button to enter Sustain mode, which prolongs the sound of each note. Pressing [SUS] again turns the feature off.

Vibrato:

Press the [VIB] button to enter Vibrato mode, which adds a trembling effect to the end of a note. Pressing [VIB] again turns the feature off.

Transpose:

Use the [TRANSPOSE -/+] buttons to alter the musical scale of the notes being played, up or down by 6 levels. Pressing both [TRANSPOSE -/+] buttons simultaneously resets the transpose level to 0. The transpose level resets to 0 after the keyboard is powered off and on.

Metronome:

Press the [METRONOME] button to activate a tick-tock beat. There are four beat patterns available. Use the [TEMPO -/+] buttons to adjust the tempo. Pressing the [METRONOME] button repeatedly cycles through the beat patterns. The LCD display shows the selected beat. The metronome effect is added to the music during playback. To exit, press [START/STOP] or [METRONOME] again.

Panel Percussion Instruments:

Press the [PERCUSSION] button to access 61 percussion sounds. The keyboard keys will then function as percussion instruments. Refer to Appendix I for a table of the available percussion sounds.

Rhythm

Selecting the rhythm:

Choose from 400 built-in rhythms. Press the [RHYTHM] button to enter rhythm selection. The LCD displays the current rhythm number. Select rhythms using the numerical keypad or the +/- buttons. Refer to Appendix III for a detailed rhythm table.

Start / Stop:

Press the [START / STOP] button to play or stop the rhythm playback.

Sync:

Press the [SYNC] button to enable sync accompaniment. Pressing any of the first 19 keys on the left-hand side of the keyboard will start the rhythm. Press [START / STOP] to stop the rhythm and exit sync function.

Fill in:

Press the [FILL IN] button during rhythm playback to insert an interlude. The rhythm will resume normally after the fill.

Accompaniment Volume Adjustment:

Adjust the Accompaniment Volume using the [ACCOMP VOLUME -/+] buttons. The LCD display shows the current volume level, indicated by bars. Pressing both [ACCOMP VOLUME -/+] buttons simultaneously resets the Accompaniment Volume to the default level. The Main Volume also affects the accompaniment volume.

Tempo Adjustment:

Use the [TEMPO -/+] buttons to adjust the playing tempo for rhythms, the metronome, and demo songs. The adjustment range is 30-240 bpm. Pressing both [TEMPO -/+] buttons simultaneously reverts the tempo to the default for the selected rhythm. At power on, the tempo defaults to 120 bpm.

Chord Accompaniment

Single Finger Chords:

Press the [SINGLE] button to activate the single finger chord function. Chords are played by pressing keys (1-19) in the chord area on the left-hand side of the keyboard. Finger patterns are shown in Appendix VI. Press [START / STOP] to start or stop the chord accompaniment. Press [SINGLE] again to exit.

Fingered Chords:

Press the [FINGERED] button to activate the fingered chord function. Chords are played by pressing keys (1-19) in the chord area on the left-hand side. Finger patterns are shown in Appendix VI. Press [START / STOP] to start or stop the chord accompaniment. Press [FINGERED] again to exit. Note: Sound is only produced if correct finger patterns are used.

Chord Tone:

There are 7 types of chord accompaniment tones. To select a chord tone, press the [CHORD TONE] button repeatedly during chord accompaniment. The LCD display will briefly show the selected tone number (00-06).

Chord Off:

During any chord mode, press the [CHORD OFF] button to stop the chord accompaniment sound and exit chord mode. The rhythm will continue to play.

Recording and Programming

Recording Function:

Press the [RECORD] button to enter recording mode. Press any key to start recording. The maximum recording capacity is 46 notes. The LCD will display [FL] when full. Pressing [RECORD] again clears previous memory and re-enters recording mode.

Press the [PLAY] button to play back recorded notes.

Rhythm Programming:

Press the [PROG] button to enter Rhythm Program mode. You can play and record your percussion track (up to 46 beats). Press [PLAY] to listen to your recorded percussion. You can adjust playback speed using [TEMPO -/+] buttons. Press [PROG] again to exit programming mode.

Demo Songs

Press the [DEMO] button to play a demo song. Use the numerical keypad +/- buttons to select a song from the 50 available. The selected song will replay. Press [DEMO] again to exit or cycle to the next song. Refer to Appendix IV for a list of demo songs.

Press the [DEMO ALL] button to play through all 50 demo songs sequentially. Press [DEMO ALL] again to exit demo mode. Refer to Appendix IV for a list of available demo songs.

Teaching Modes

Beginner Course:

Press [TEACH 1] to enter Beginner Course mode, suitable for beginners to learn rhythm and tempo. The LCD displays the selected song number (00-49, refer to Appendix IV). Use the keypad or +/- keys to select a song. The beat point flashes on the LCD to indicate tempo. The LCD shows which key to press (e.g., C 6). Use provided key stickers to identify keys. The keyboard plays the melody, accepting any key press.

Intermediate Course:

Press [TEACH 2] to enter Intermediate Course mode, for intermediate users. The LCD displays the selected song number (00-49, refer to Appendix IV). Use the keypad or +/- keys to select a song. The beat point flashes on the LCD to indicate tempo. The LCD shows which key to press (e.g., C 6). Correct key presses advance to the next section of the song. Use provided key stickers.

Advanced Course:

Press [TEACH 3] to enter Advanced Course mode, for more advanced users. The LCD displays the selected song number (00-49, refer to Appendix IV). Use the keypad or +/- keys to select a song. The beat point flashes on the LCD to indicate tempo. The LCD shows which key to press (e.g., C 6). Use provided key stickers and press specified keys. The song continues even if an incorrect key is pressed.

Progressive Learning:

  • Follow the sequence to master songs:
  • Listen to songs in DEMO mode to understand timings and beat. Move to the next stage when confident.
  • Access songs in Beginner Course (TEACH 1), duplicate timings and key presses. Then progress to Intermediate (TEACH 2) and Advanced (TEACH 3) courses.

Appendix I. Percussion Instruments

This appendix lists 61 percussion sounds and their corresponding keys on the percussion keyboard area.

Appendix II. Tone Table

This appendix provides a table listing 600 available tones, categorized by number and name.

Appendix III. Rhythm Table

This appendix provides a table listing 400 available rhythms, categorized by number and name.

Appendix IV. Demo Song Table

This appendix lists 50 demo songs by number and name.

Appendix V. Troubleshooting

This section addresses common problems and their solutions:

  • Faint noise on power on/off: Normal.
  • No sound when keys are pressed: Check master volume, ensure no headphones are plugged in. For fingered chords, ensure correct patterns are used.
  • Sound distorted/interrupted: Check power adapter or batteries.
  • Timbre difference in notes: Normal due to sampling ranges.
  • Sustain length varies: Normal, pre-set for different tones.
  • Incorrect volume levels: Check main and accompaniment volumes.
  • SYNC status auto-accompaniment not working: Ensure Chord mode is selected and play a note from the left-hand keys.
  • Incorrect pitch: Check that transpose is set to 00.

These tables visually represent the key presses required for various chord types (Major, minor, 7th, etc.) in Single Finger and Fingered Chord modes, organized by root note.
