Klaxon Nexus 110 AC Sounder & Sounder-Beacon Installation Instructions
Introduction
This document provides installation instructions for the Klaxon Nexus 110 AC Sounder & Sounder-Beacon, a device designed for audible and visual signaling.
Installation
IMPORTANT:
- The unit must be fitted with a fused spur incorporating an all-pole disconnection device with 3mm contact separation. Ensure the fuse, cable size, and gland type are rated sufficiently for the total load on the sounder circuit.
- Isolate the unit from the electricity supply before removing the cover. Only suitably qualified personnel should access the unit for tone or volume adjustments. WARNING: no user-serviceable parts are contained within the unit.
- Installation involves mounting the base unit first, then making external wiring connections. The head unit automatically connects when attached to the base.
- The sounder head separates from the base by unlocking four 1/4-turn fasteners. A Philips No. 2 screwdriver, minimum 100mm long, is recommended.
- Note that the head fits the base in only one orientation. If a beacon is fitted, ensure correct positioning of the base to align the beacon after the sounder is attached.
Wiring
Power: The sounder and beacon have separate power terminals, marked as follows:
Device | Common (Neutral) | 110V | 230V |
Sounder | N | 110V | 230V |
Beacon (Where fitted) | N | 110V | 230V |
Wiring Diagram Description: The wiring diagram illustrates connections from a controller to two units. It shows input terminals labeled 'Beacon L', 'Sounder L', and 'Common N' for each unit, along with '2nd Stage' and '3rd Stage' inputs, indicating separate power and stage control capabilities.
Remote Tone Switching (If required): Connect control terminals externally as shown below:
Alarm Stage | Example Signal | Activation |
Stage 1 | 'Alert' | No Connection (Default) |
Stage 2 | 'Evacuate' | Link Terminal S2 to terminal |
Stage 3 | 'All Clear' | Link Terminal S3 to terminal |
Controls
Tone Selection: The first and second stage alarm tones are independently set using 6-way dipswitches S1 and S2. The third stage alarm tone is pre-set to complement the selected first stage tone. Refer to the Tone Selection Table for specific settings.
Volume Control: The sound output can be reduced by up to 20dBA by adjusting the potentiometer.
