Installation Guide
Assembling the Air Spring
This section describes how to assemble the air spring unit using the provided brackets and hardware.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows the air spring bag (6) positioned between the upper mounting bracket (1) and the lower mounting bracket (2). The upper bracket is secured with bolts (12) and washers (19, 20). The lower bracket is attached to the air spring bag. Part 5 (Nylon spacer) and Part 9 (90° Air fitting) are also shown connected to the air spring bag. The assembly is oriented for the rear of the vehicle.
Note: A spacer (part 5) is required if the distance between the upper and lower bracket is 6.75-7.5 inches. Otherwise, it is not required.
Hardware Used: Bolts: 12 or 13. Washers: 19 and 20.
The diagram also shows two separate bracket assemblies labeled "REAR", indicating they are for the rear axle.
Removing the Jounce Bumper and Installing the Upper Mounting Bracket
Step 1: Raise the vehicle and support it using safety stands so that the axle can be safely dropped away from the frame. This allows the air spring assemblies to be positioned between the axle and frame.
Step 2: Remove the jounce bumper from the frame.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows a vehicle frame with a jounce bumper attached. The bumper is shown being removed.
Step 3: Thread a hex flange bolt (part 15) into the bottom of the frame where the jounce bumper was removed. Leave approximately half an inch of the bolt extending below the frame.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows a vehicle frame with a hex flange bolt (15) threaded into the bottom. A close-up shows the bolt head and the frame.
Step 4: Install the upper mounting bracket (part 1). Ensure the hex flange bolt (15) passes through the keyway in the bracket. Then, secure the bolt to the frame.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows the upper mounting bracket (1) being attached to the frame. The hex flange bolt (15) is shown passing through the bracket and being secured.
Preparing for Lower Bracket Installation
Step 5: Remove the brake line bracket located under the leaf spring on both sides of the vehicle. Also, remove the plastic clip from the ABS line situated between the leaf spring and the wheel.
Diagram Description: Illustrations show the underside of the vehicle near the leaf spring and wheel, highlighting the brake line bracket and ABS line clip to be removed.
Step 6: Measure the distance between the bottom of the top plate and the top of the bottom plate at the factory ride height. If this distance is between 6.75 inches and 7.5 inches, the spacers included in the kit will be used.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows a measurement being taken between two plates on the vehicle's suspension, with the range "6.75"-7.5"" indicated.
Installing the Lower Bracket
Step 1: Install the brake line bracket and the lower mounting bracket (part 2) under the leaf spring using a hex bolt. Install another hex bolt on the front side of the bracket.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows the lower mounting bracket (2) being attached under the leaf spring using bolts. Part 14 (Hex flange bolt) is indicated.
Step 2: Install the fastening block (part 3) with the lower mounting bracket to the frame. Then, tighten the carriage bolts (part 10) with the washers and nuts (part 16).
Diagram Description: An illustration shows the fastening block (3) being attached to the frame and lower mounting bracket using carriage bolts (10), washers, and nuts (16).
Installing the Upper Bracket
Step 1: Place the rolling plate (part 4) on the top of the air spring bag. Then, tighten the bolts (part 12) with washers and nuts.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows the rolling plate (4) being placed on top of the air spring bag and secured with bolts (12) and washers.
Step 2: Place the U-bolts (part 11) on the frame and through the two holes in the front of the upper bracket. Then, tighten the bolts with washers and nuts (part 16).
Diagram Description: An illustration shows U-bolts (11) being used to attach the upper bracket to the vehicle frame, secured with nuts (16).
Step 3: Repeat the same installation steps on the other side of the vehicle.
Step 4: Secure the wire harness and ABS line using zip ties (part 23) to prevent them from rubbing against anything.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows zip ties (23) being used to bundle and secure wiring and brake lines.
Installing the Air Lines
Step 1: Cut the air line (part 7) to the appropriate length. Push one end of the hose into the fitting (part 9) and pull back to ensure it is securely locked in place.
Diagram Description: An illustration shows an air line being connected to a fitting.
Step 2: Install the inflatable valve (part 8) in a selected location, typically on the license plate bracket at the rear of the vehicle.
Diagram Description: Illustrations show the rear of a vehicle, with a callout indicating a potential location for the inflation valve near the license plate.
Check Air Tightness
Put some air into the air spring bags. Then, spray a soapy solution on all connections and valves. Check for any escaping air bubbles to ensure a proper seal.
