PSA1s Introduction
Congratulations on your purchase of the PSA1s. The PSA1s is a premium-quality integrated subwoofer and power amplifier, designed as the perfect complement to Yorkville's Paraline Series PSA1 powered speaker.
Features and Operation
1. Input Level Switch
This switch selects between line-level and speaker-level signals:
- Line-level: Use when the PSA1s receives a signal from a processor, electronic crossover, un-powered mixer output, or a powered speaker cabinet's loop-through. Balanced ¼-inch (Tip, Ring, Sleeve) and/or XLR cables are recommended to minimize hum and buzz.
- Speaker-level: Use when the PSA1s receives a signal via a ¼-inch speaker cable from an amplifier or powered-mixer output, or from the parallel connection on an un-powered speaker cabinet. Connect like an ordinary speaker (in parallel using loop-through jacks) alongside passive full-range loudspeakers.
2. PSA1s Level Control
This control adjusts the amount of bass added to the sound system by the PSA1s. It allows for matching the subwoofer's sensitivity to companion full-range loudspeakers and achieving the desired system frequency response. Set this control by listening with a medium-level input signal, ensuring the limiter is not constantly active. A good starting point is the center detent, which provides full power when using the line input with a signal level of +3 dBV.
3. Input Jacks
The PSA1s features both ¼-inch and XLR inputs, along with Thru connections, for easy integration into most audio systems. The PSA1s can be connected before or after the full-range loudspeaker without altering the signal to daisy-chained loudspeakers or drawing power from the host amplifier/processor. An external crossover is not required. The Thru jacks also allow multiple PSA1s subwoofers to be connected in parallel.
4. Protection
The PSA1s incorporates internal protection mechanisms against over-current, over-excursion, clipping, and excessive average power output. If protection is activated, the output may be cut off, and the power LED may blink. The unit will attempt to restart. If the fault persists, contact an authorized service center. At high power levels, the limiter prevents distortion and over-excursion. For optimal results, set the system so the limiter LED occasionally flashes. The PSA1s includes a built-in stand mounting adapter compatible with the Yorkville SW-TUBEHD accessory for supporting one or two PSA1 cabinets on a flat, level surface. WARNING: Larger or heavier cabinets should NOT be used!

Block Diagram Description
The block diagram illustrates the signal flow and components of the PSA1s. The signal enters via the Input Mode selector (Line/Speaker), passes through Buffers, then to a Limiter and EQ. This processed signal is fed to a Class-D Power Amplifier, which drives the two Woofer drivers. The system also includes a Power Supply unit and protection indicators (Clip, Limit, Protect).
