Freezer Safety

Your safety and the safety of others are very important. Always read and obey all safety messages.

Safety Alert Symbol: This symbol alerts you to potential hazards that can kill or hurt you and others. All safety messages will follow this symbol and either the word "DANGER" or "WARNING."

DANGER: You can be killed or seriously injured if you don't immediately follow instructions.

WARNING: You can be killed or seriously injured if you don't follow instructions.

Important Safety Instructions

To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury, follow these basic precautions:

Proper Disposal of Your Old Freezer or Refrigerator

WARNING: Suffocation Hazard. Remove doors or lid from your old freezer or refrigerator. Failure to do so can result in death or brain damage.

Child entrapment and suffocation are serious risks. If disposing of an old appliance, take off the doors or lid and leave shelves in place to prevent children from climbing inside.

Installation Instructions

Unpacking

WARNING: Excessive Weight Hazard. Use two or more people to move and install the freezer. Failure to do so can result in back or other injury.

Remove tape and glue residue from surfaces using mild dish soap and fingers. Wipe clean with warm water and dry. Do not use sharp instruments, rubbing alcohol, flammable fluids, or abrasive cleaners.

When moving the freezer, protect the floor and pull it straight out. Do not wiggle or "walk" it.

Clean the inside of the freezer before use.

Location Requirements

WARNING: Explosion Hazard. Keep flammable materials and vapors away from the freezer.

Diagram Description: Shows required clearances: 3 inches (7.5 cm) at the top and sides, and 1 inch (2.5 cm) at the back.

Note: For side-by-side installation with another appliance, allow 3" (7.5 cm) clearance at the top and sides, and 1/4" (0.64 cm) between appliances.

Electrical Requirements

WARNING: Electrical Shock Hazard.

A 115 Volt, 60 Hz, AC only, 15- or 20-amp fused, grounded electrical supply is required. A separate circuit is recommended. Use an outlet that cannot be turned off by a switch.

Water Supply Requirements

Ensure water pressure is between 30 and 120 psi (207-827 kPa) for dispenser and ice maker operation.

If using a reverse osmosis system, water pressure must be a minimum of 40-60 psi (276-414 kPa). A booster pump may be needed.

Important: If the freezer is turned on before the water line is connected, turn the ice maker OFF.

All installations must meet local plumbing codes. Use plastic tubing only in areas above freezing temperatures.

Tools Needed: Flat-blade screwdriver, 7/16" and 1/2" open-end wrenches or adjustable wrenches, 1/4" nut driver, drill bit, hand drill or electric drill.

Water Supply Connection

Connect to Water Line:

  1. Disconnect power.
  2. Turn off main water supply. Open nearest faucet to clear the line.
  3. Locate a 1/2" to 1 1/4" (12.7 mm to 3.18 cm) vertical cold water pipe.
  4. Measure tubing length, adding 7 ft (2.1 m) for cleaning. Use 1/4" (6.35 mm) O.D. plastic tubing, cut square.
  5. Drill a 1/4" (6.35 mm) hole in the cold water pipe.
  6. Fasten shutoff valve with pipe clamp, ensuring a watertight seal. Do not overtighten.
  7. Attach compression sleeve and nut to tubing, insert into valve outlet, and tighten.
  8. Place free end of tubing in a container, turn on water supply, flush until clear. Turn off shutoff valve. Coil tubing.

Connect to Freezer:

  1. Attach plastic tube to valve inlet using compression nut and sleeve. Tighten. Use tube clamp on freezer back to secure tubing.
  2. Turn shutoff valve ON. Check for leaks and tighten connections.
  3. The ice maker has a built-in strainer. A second strainer can be installed if needed.
  4. Plug freezer into a grounded outlet.

Freezer Use

Adjust the Door

Instructions for leveling the freezer using front leveling legs. Ensure rollers are off the floor if equipped.

Diagram Description: Shows leveling legs and the use of a level tool.

Ensuring Proper Air Circulation

Proper airflow is essential for temperature control. Cool air enters through vents and recirculates.

Do not block air vents with food packages, as this can cause temperature and moisture problems.

Important: Wrap or cover foods tightly to prevent odors and drying.

Diagram Description: Illustrates airflow within the freezer, showing air entering and recirculating.

Using the Control

Set the temperature control to 4 for optimal temperature (around 0°F / -17.8°C).

Allow 6-8 hours for initial cooling before adding food. Do not overload with unfrozen food (max 2-3 lbs per cubic foot).

The compressor runs continuously initially and cycles on/off once cooled.

The exterior may feel warm; this is normal heat transfer.

Adjusting Control

Note: Small snowflake icon = setting 1 (least cold); Large snowflake icon = setting 6 (coldest).

Diagram Description: Shows the temperature control dial with numbers and snowflake icons.

Fast Freeze (on some models)

Activates continuous operation at the coldest setting to quickly freeze food. Use before adding large amounts of unfrozen food. Return to normal setting after 24-48 hours.

Ice Maker (on some models)

To Turn the Ice Maker On/Off: Lower the shutoff arm to turn ON. Lift the shutoff arm to turn OFF.

The ice maker has an automatic shutoff when the ice bin is full.

Ice Production Rate: Expect 7-9 batches per 24 hours. Adjust temperature control by half-number steps if ice production is slow. Allow 24 hours between adjustments.

Remember: Allow 24 hours for the first batch of ice; discard the first three batches. Use good quality water; avoid softened water if possible.

Do not store items on the ice maker or in the ice storage bin.

Diagram Description: Shows the ice maker shutoff arm and its operation.

Temperature Alarm (on some models)

An audible alarm sounds if the temperature rises 10°F (-12°C) or more above normal. Controlled by a three-position switch (ON, OFF for warm conditions, Test).

Key Eject Lock (on some models)

To lock/unlock, hold key in lock while turning. The lock is spring-loaded.

Contact dealer for replacement key, providing model and serial numbers.

Freezer Features

This manual covers multiple models; your freezer may have some or all features listed.

Refrigerated Shelves (on some models)

Shelves provide refrigerated storage. Store packages in direct contact for best results. Store fresh, unfrozen food directly on shelves, not on top of frozen items.

Placement Tips: Cabinet shelves offer best freezing. Door shelves and bottom are slightly less cold. Sensitive items (meat, poultry) should not be placed there. Leave space between packages for airflow.

Door Bin

Instructions for removing and replacing the door bin by tipping forward and sliding out.

Storage Basket (on some models)

Provides separate storage for difficult items. Remove by pulling out and lifting up.

Storage Gate (on some models)

Instructions for lowering and raising the storage gate by lifting slightly, pulling forward/down, and re-engaging supports.

Diagram Descriptions: Illustrations for refrigerated shelves, door bin, storage basket, and storage gate.

Freezer Care

Cleaning Your Frost-Free Freezer

WARNING: Explosion Hazard. Use nonflammable cleaner.

"Frost-free" means no manual defrosting is needed. Frost is removed by air circulation and deposited on the cooling coil, which periodically melts it into a drain pan.

Clean at least once a year.

  1. Disconnect power.
  2. Remove all frozen food, wrapping it to keep it cold.
  3. Wash interior walls with mild detergent or baking soda solution.
  4. Do not use abrasive cleaners, window sprays, flammable fluids, etc.
  5. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
  6. Follow specific cleaning instructions for painted metal or stainless steel finishes. Use approved cleaners for stainless steel.
  7. Plug in power.

Base Grille

Instructions for removing and replacing the base grille by pulling down and snapping back into place.

Defrosting and Cleaning Your Manual Defrost Freezer

WARNING: Explosion Hazard. Use nonflammable cleaner.

Defrost when frost builds up to about 1/4" (6 mm). Clean at least annually.

Do not use abrasive cleaners.

Note: Remove drain cap before defrosting.

  1. Disconnect power.
  2. Remove frozen food.
  3. Remove base grille.
  4. Style 1 (Drain System): Access and remove drain hose, place pan underneath, remove drain cap.
  5. Style 2 (No Drain System): Remove water with sponge/baster.
  6. Place pans of hot water inside to speed thawing. A fan can help. Do not place electrical devices inside.
  7. Use a plastic scraper to remove frost. Do not use sharp tools.
  8. Wipe away water.
  9. Wash interior walls with mild detergent or baking soda solution.
  10. Rinse and dry.
  11. Follow exterior finish cleaning instructions (painted metal, stainless steel).
  12. Replace drain hose, cap, and base grille if applicable.
  13. Replace frozen food.
  14. Plug in power.

Changing the Light Bulb

Use an appliance bulb of the same size, shape, and wattage.

Style 1: Unplug, replace bulb, plug in.

Style 2: Unplug, remove light shield, replace bulb, replace shield, plug in.

Power Interruptions

For outages of 24 hours or less, keep doors closed.

For longer outages, store food in a locker or consume perishables.

After power is restored, unplug for 30 minutes to equalize the refrigeration system.

Remember: A full freezer stays colder longer. Refreezing may affect quality.

Moving Care

  1. Remove all food.
  2. Unplug and clean the freezer.
  3. Tape door shut and secure the cord.
  4. Refer to Installation and Use sections upon arrival at new location.
