TransGo SK 62TE Transmission Repair Kit

Fits: 62TE 2007-17

Corrects / Prevents / Reduces

After every repair: Always clear codes and reset the VLP Line Pressure Counter, which is found under the Special Functions tab.

The TCC Control Solenoid often fails, causing "Chugs" or "Kills" the engine at stop. Replace it.

Illustration: A transmission component with a gasket and housing is shown. Text indicates to 'Install New Non Shrinking Gasket'. If the housing is bent or has damaged holes from over-tightening of retaining screws, replace it.

Illustration: A TCC Control Solenoid is depicted. A Pressure Transducer is also shown.

Step 1 (If Trans is in Vehicle): Discard OE L/R Housing Gasket. Install new Non Shrinking Gasket under Piston Housing. This gasket works great with all L/R piston housings.

Accumulators

Important: Do not make any changes to the Accumulator springs!

Plastic Pistons: Skip Step 1 and re-use the original seals. Plastic Pistons can get damaged from spring contact; inspect inside where springs touch.

Illustration: A diagram of the valve body interior shows labeled ports: UD, 2/4, L/R, OD, D/C, LC, Rev. The 'FRONT' orientation is indicated.

Illustration: A spring and piston assembly is shown. Text indicates '(Make no spring changes)'. A '2-4 Feed Plug' is also depicted.

Step 1: Install new Expanders and Seals on the CLOSED END of ALL 6 Aluminum accumulator Pistons. Use ONLY on Aluminum Pistons. The piston open end faces into the case.

Plastic Pistons: Skip this step and re-use the original seals.

Illustration: Another spring and piston assembly is shown. Text indicates '(Make no spring changes)'.

Tech Tip: Use 20-25 psi of air to check the circuit integrity of the Direct Clutch sealing rings & piston, and the Low Clutch. Squirt some ATF in each circuit before testing. If it doesn't air check, Do Not Install the Trans! Investigate why it fails the low pressure air check, use different rings or parts, and retest until it passes.

Valve Body Repairs

This repair work improves the overall stability of the main pressure system to reduce shift complaints, corrects the malfunctioning Torque Converter Regulator for improved lubrication and cooling, and prevents drainback from bore wear. It is an easy and effective drop-in solution, saving time and money.

Underdrive Ring

Fits: 62TE/604/606/42RLE (Including VLP models)

Corrects / Prevents / Reduces:

Read this first: Close inspection of the Underdrive piston bore may reveal wear and a ridge where the piston rubbed against the seal groove in the input hub. This ridge can damage the seal, causing a cold leak. A worn piston or cut seal can result in a delay or no forward engagement when cold, and sometimes limp-in on cold startup until the seal warms. During extended runs in 4th gear, the seal may relax and fail to re-seal quickly on a 4-3 coast downshift, causing the computer to place the transmission in limp mode. A temporary fix is a new piston, but a better solution is this quality self-expanding seal, which is pliable enough for worn areas and tough enough to resist the ridge.

Illustration: Shows where to inspect the piston for wear and ridge.

UD-Ring Installation:

Tough Self-Expanding Seal: A. Install wire expander into groove. B. Then install the seal.

Illustration: Depicts the Tough Seal and Expander Wire for UD-Ring Installation.

Important: Do not hone, sand, scrape, polish, or attempt to fix the piston. If it is severely damaged, replace it and use the new expander & seal for a long-term fix.

Note: The seal may not air check perfectly but functions well in the transmission, even with a worn piston.

604/42RLE/62TE 4th Type Stack-up

Clutches on the transfer shaft are: Low clutch, Direct clutch & the One Way clutch (ORC).

Illustration: Shows a Transfer Shaft with four rings. Text notes that these rings can shrink, dumping lube oil, which lowers main line pressure and accelerates ring land wear on the low clutch housing (Part # 68018615AA).

Compounder One-Way Clutch

The stepped side of the outer race faces into the Low Drum. When the sprag assembly is installed in the Low drum, the Outer Race must rotate Counter Clockwise while the drum is held stationary.

Illustration: Depicts the Compounder One-Way Clutch assembly, showing the flat side of the outer race facing up when installed in the Low Drum, with rotation indicated.

Low Clutch

Early rotating rings can damage the ring grooves on the low clutch housing. Later housings are notched for non-rotating rings (05078800AB). OE rings air check great and work excellently in these notched housings. 20-25 psi of regulated air must apply direct clutches on the bench; do not assemble the unit until they do!

Illustration: Shows the Low Clutch assembly with ports labeled Direct, Lube, and Low Clutch.

Illustration: Depicts checking Sprag rotation by holding a point and rotating the race in the direction of an arrow. Text notes 'Flat side of outer race faces up when installed in Low Drum'.

Compounder Wear Areas

Loss of lube from shrunk sealing rings on the transfer shaft accelerates wear on the ring tower, causing Direct Drum rings to leak. With severe wear, the top sealing ring may be found still in the drum.

Illustration: Shows Direct Clutch wear.

Updating the Low Clutch Housing: Upgrading to the latest Non-Rotating Ring type housing during overhaul is a great way to prevent rework due to ring groove damage. Even if the housing is not currently damaged, be warned that this type has a known high failure rate. Remember, the customer pays for the parts now, but you may have to pay for them later.
