Brother Sewing Machine Quick Reference Guides
This document provides quick reference instructions for essential sewing machine operations: preparing the bobbin thread and threading the upper thread. Always refer to your sewing machine's full operation manual for comprehensive safety information and detailed instructions.
Guide 1: Preparing the Bobbin Thread
Important: Read the "IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS" in your Operation Manual before starting.
Mount Spool: Place the thread spool on the spool pin. The thread should unwind from the front. (See Diagram 1, showing spool on pin, with 11.5 mm measurement).
Guide Thread: Guide the thread through the bobbin winder thread guide (1), then through the tension disc (2). (See Diagrams 2 & 3).
Mount Bobbin: Place a bobbin onto the bobbin winder spindle (3) and secure it.
Thread Bobbin: Insert the thread end into a small hole on the bobbin (5). Hold the thread end firmly.
Start Winding: Engage the bobbin winder by pressing the spindle down. Begin winding.
Cut Thread: After a few turns, stop and cut the thread (6).
Complete Winding: Continue winding until the bobbin is full.
Remove Bobbin: Remove the full bobbin.
Insert Bobbin Case: Place the wound bobbin into the bobbin case (4), ensuring the thread comes out of the notch (6) as shown. (See Diagram 4 & 5).
Insert Bobbin Case into Machine: Insert the bobbin case (with bobbin) into the shuttle race (1). Pull the thread to ensure it moves freely. Leave approximately 7-10 cm (3-4 inches) of thread hanging. (See Diagram 6 & 7).
Guide 2: Upper Threading
Important: Read the "IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS" in your Operation Manual before starting.
Mount Spool: Place the thread spool on the spool pin.
Guide Thread: Guide the thread through the upper thread guides (1, 2, 3, 4) in sequence. (See Diagram 1).
Tension Discs: Pass the thread through the tension discs (5). (See Diagram 2).
Take-up Lever: Guide the thread up and through the eye of the take-up lever (6). (See Diagram 3).
Lower Guides: Continue guiding the thread down through the remaining upper thread guides (7, 8, 9). (See Diagram 4).
Thread Needle: Bring the thread from front to back through the eye of the needle. Leave approximately 5 cm (2 inches) of thread tail. (See Diagram 5).
Prepare for Sewing: Ensure the needle is in its highest position by turning the handwheel towards you. (See Diagram 6).
Bring Up Lower Thread: Hold the upper thread taut. Turn the handwheel towards you to lower and raise the needle, catching the lower thread and bringing it up. Pull both threads to the back. (See Diagrams 7, 8, & 9 showing bobbin case insertion and thread path).
