Polaris MAXX Owner's Manual
Congratulations on the purchase of your new Polaris MAXX pool cleaner. This manual provides detailed instructions for installation, operation, and maintenance to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your cleaner.
Important Information & Warnings
▲ WARNING: RISK OF SUCTION ENTRAPMENT HAZARD
To prevent serious injury or death, ensure that all suction fittings in your pool are certified to applicable safety standards (e.g., IAPMO SPS 4). Never block suction fittings with any part of your body. Keep hair, loose clothing, and jewelry away from suction fittings and hose ends.
- Read the entire owner's manual before operating the cleaner.
- Remove the cleaner before entering the pool.
- Do not operate the cleaner outside of the pool.
- Do not allow children to play with the cleaner.
- Keep hands clear of moving parts.
Notice for Vinyl Liner Pools: Before installation, inspect your pool's vinyl liner for any damage, brittleness, wrinkles, or corrosion. If any issues are found, consult a qualified professional for repairs or liner replacement. Zodiac Pool Systems LLC. is not responsible for liner damage caused by a malfunctioning cleaner or a pool with a deteriorated liner.
- To prevent suction entrapment accidents, ensure wall vacuum fittings have a safety vac lock installed.
- Clean the skimmer basket, pump basket, and pool filter regularly.
- Disconnect the cleaner from the pool wall or skimmer before cleaning or backwashing the pool filter. Allow the filtration system to run for at least five (5) minutes before re-connecting the cleaner.
- Remove the cleaner from the pool during chemical or shock treatments. Wait at least four (4) hours after super chlorination before re-installing the cleaner.
For Warranty Service: Complete and return the Polaris Warranty Card, record your purchase information, and attach a copy of your purchase receipt.

Installation
Follow these steps to install your Polaris MAXX pool cleaner:
STEP 1. Prepare the Pool
- Manually vacuum the pool and ensure the pool filter and pump basket are clean.
- Turn off the pool filter pump.
- Close the pool main drain line.
- Aim the return line fittings downward.
STEP 2. Assemble Hose Sections
Push and twist the connector on each hose section (g) until they lock into position with a clicking sound. The hose cuffs have three connection positions, any of which provides an airtight seal.
STEP 3. Connect to a Dedicated Suction Line
- Twist-lock the male end of the hose (g) into the large end of the extended 45° elbow (d).
- Connect the elbow to the installed Safety Vac wall fitting (sold separately).
- Angle the elbow toward the water surface.
OR Connect to a Skimmer
The FlowKeeper™ valve must be used in single skimmer installations to regulate flow.
- Remove the skimmer basket.
- Connect the valve cuff (h), FlowKeeper valve (b), and 45 degree elbow (f). Insert the FlowKeeper valve (b) into the 45 degree elbow with the arrow pointing down.
- Push the male end of the twist-lock hose (g) into the end of the 45 degree elbow (f).
- Insert the assembly into the skimmer suction port.
STEP 4. Determine Correct Hose Length for Your Pool
- Measure enough hose to reach the farthest point of the pool from the skimmer or dedicated suction line. Remove any excess hose sections. This is distance (A).
- Attach the leader hose (c) to the end where the cleaner head will be connected. This is distance (B). The extra length allows the cleaner to reach the far point in the pool.
Total Hose Length Required = (A) Farthest distance across pool + (B) Leader Hose
STEP 5. Connect the Cleaner
- Ensure the flow regulator valve (FRV) (e) is attached to the leader hose (c).
- Submerge the hose and flood with water until no bubbles are visible.
- Submerge the cleaner and flood with water until no bubbles are visible.
- Connect the hose to the cleaner head by pushing the flow regulator valve onto the cleaner.
- Allow the cleaner to sink to the bottom of the pool.
STEP 6. Test for Proper Flow
▲ WARNING
To avoid serious injury, turn off the pool cleaner's suction pump before testing flow. Keep hair, loose clothing, and jewelry away from the open end of the hose.
The flow regulator valve (FRV) is designed to limit high water flow. Correct flow minimizes wear on cleaner components and extends its life. Wheel rotation speed indicates the water flow. Checking wheel rotation timing verifies maximum efficiency.
Routine Maintenance
- Empty the Pump Basket Regularly: For optimal efficiency, regularly empty the pump basket. Polaris offers an in-line leaf canister to help maintain flow and reduce debris reaching the pump filter basket.
- Remove Debris from Engine:
▲ WARNING
Ensure the cleaner is disconnected from the hose and the suction pump is turned off before performing this maintenance.
- Push the latch release button on top of the cleaner to open the cover.
- Open the lid, inspect the engine, and remove any debris.
- If necessary, pull the engine by its blades to remove it (no tools required).
- Reinstall the engine, ensuring the large wheel is on the right side (marked A).
- Close the engine cover and ensure the latch clicks securely.
- Clean or Backwash the Pool Filter: Always disconnect the cleaner before cleaning or backwashing the pool filter. After cleaning, let the filtration system run for at least five (5) minutes to flush the suction lines before re-connecting the cleaner.
- Adding Chemicals: Remove the cleaner from the pool for at least four (4) hours when adding chemicals.
- Replace Brushes Regularly: Replace scrubbing brushes each season or when significant wear is visible. To remove brushes, squeeze the plastic clip between two fingers and pull. Pool surface type may affect brush wear rate.
- Storage: Never store the cleaner in direct sunlight. Do not coil the hose, as it may develop a memory affecting performance. Store the cleaner on its side or back to prevent damage to the turbine and brushes.
- Winterizing: Before winter storage, drain all water from the cleaner (freeze damage is not covered by warranty). Remove all connectors and adapters. Disassemble hoses and lay them flat.
