Parts Identification

The main unit features a charging LED and a pinhole/power reset button. It also has a port for charging and firmware upgrades.

The button module includes '+' and '-' buttons, and a TAP button.

Included accessories are:

Installing the Main Unit on a Helmet

Follow these steps to securely attach the main unit to your system, open-face, or full-face helmet:

  1. Open the chin bar of your system helmet or the shield of your helmet.
  2. Remove the side cover from the helmet by pressing the tab and sliding it off. Then, remove the rear cover using the included hex wrench.
  3. Remove the cheek pads by detaching their snap buttons.
  4. Attach the button module to the helmet's side base until it clicks into place. Ensure the cable is routed through the designated groove.
  5. Lift the helmet's rubber guard and insert the main unit. Ensure the rubber guard is not pinched between the main unit and the slot. Route the main unit's cables through the groove under the rubber guard. Secure the main unit with the provided screws.
  6. For System/Open-Face Helmets: Insert the longer hook of the boom microphone into the helmet's inner groove, then insert the shorter hook. Route the microphone cable through the groove and connect it to the microphone connector.
  7. For Full-Face Helmets: Peel the adhesive backing from the Velcro for the cable microphone and attach it to the inside of the chin guard. Attach the cable microphone to the Velcro. Route the microphone cable through the groove and connect it to the microphone connector.
  8. Speaker Module Installation: Insert the longer hook of the speaker into the bottom hole of the speaker pocket, then insert the shorter hook into the upper hole. Secure the speaker firmly. Ensure the microphone cable is not crushed. The speaker position can be adjusted to align with the rider's ear. Repeat for the other speaker.
  9. Cable Routing: Tuck the cable bundle into the gap under the rubber guard and organize the remaining cables. Ensure cables are not bent or pinched. Route the cables through the groove in the cheek pad and reattach the cheek pads by inserting them from the back and securing the snap buttons.
  10. Close the chin bar or helmet shield. Ensure the boom microphone is positioned near your mouth when wearing the helmet.

Getting Started

Downloadable Software:

Charging: Connect the USB cable to the USB port on the main unit. Full charge takes approximately 2.5 hours. Do not charge while wearing the helmet; the unit powers off automatically. Use only certified third-party USB chargers with 5V input. Unapproved chargers may pose risks.

Symbols Used in this Guide:

Power On/Off:

Checking Battery Level: The status LED indicates battery level upon powering on. Different blinking patterns signify different levels (e.g., Green/Blue/Red dots indicate battery status).

Adjusting Volume: Tap the '+' button to increase volume and the '-' button to decrease volume. Volume levels are maintained for each audio source (smartphone, intercom) even after restarting the main unit.

Pairing the Main Unit with Other Bluetooth Devices

Pairing is required for initial use with Bluetooth devices. The main unit can pair with up to three other main units and various Bluetooth devices like smartphones, GPS navigators, radar detectors, and music players. Use 'Phone Pairing', 'Second Phone Pairing', and 'GPS Pairing' for multiple devices.

Pairing with a Smartphone:

Pairing a Second Phone: Press and hold the TAP button for 10 seconds, then tap the '+' button twice. Select SMART HJC 11B from the list.

Pairing by Profile (HFP/A2DP):

GPS Pairing: Press and hold the TAP button for 10 seconds, then tap the '+' button five times. Select SMART HJC 11B from the list.

Using Your Smartphone

Making/Answering Calls:

Speed Dial: Assign speed dial numbers via the SMART HJC BT app. To use speed dial, press and hold the '+' button for 3 seconds to enter speed dial mode. Tap '>' (or '+' button once) to cycle through speed dial numbers, or '<' (or '-' button once) to go back. Tap the TAP button once to call the selected number. You can also redial the last called number by tapping the TAP button once.

Bluetooth Intercom

Pair with up to three other main units for intercom. Only one conversation can be active at a time. Cycle through paired users by tapping the TAP button.

Intercom Pairing:

Intercom Pairing Order: Pairing is sequential ('last paired first'). The last user paired becomes Friend 1. If you pair with B, then C, then D, your order will be A (You) -> C (Friend 1) -> D (Friend 2) -> B (Friend 3).

Intercom Call Operations: Tap the TAP button once to start/end a conversation with Friend 1 (D), twice for Friend 2 (C), and three times for Friend 3 (B).

Audio Controls

Music Playback:

Music Sharing: Share music or navigation audio with your intercom partner. Remote control of track skipping and seeking is possible from both ends. Music playback pauses during phone calls or GPS navigation. Music sharing ends when a multi-way intercom call begins. It's also disabled when Audio Multitasking is active with separate music streams.

Universal Intercom

Connect with other brands' intercom devices via Bluetooth HFP. Note that compatibility is not guaranteed for all devices, and operation may vary. When using Universal Intercom, the second phone connection will be temporarily disconnected.

Universal Intercom Pairing:

  1. Enter Universal Intercom pairing mode on the SMART HJC 11B by pressing and holding the TAP button for 10 seconds, then tapping the TAP button three times.
  2. On the other brand's intercom, initiate phone pairing. The SMART HJC 11B will automatically start pairing.

Making Universal Intercom Calls: Similar to Bluetooth intercom pairing, initiate a Universal Intercom call. Ensure your SMART HJC 11B is in pairing mode (refer to 8.1), and the other user initiates pairing from their device.

Feature Priority and Firmware Upgrade

Feature Priority: The system prioritizes audio sources as follows (High to Low): Smartphone, Bluetooth Intercom, Music Sharing, Bluetooth Stereo Music. Lower priority functions are interrupted by higher priority ones. Note: Setting music as the audio priority changes the order.

Firmware Upgrade: Upgrade firmware using the SMART HJC Device Manager on a PC. Connect the unit via USB and follow the instructions. Check www.hjchelmets.jp for the latest software.

Settings

Access the settings menu by pressing and holding the TAP button for 10 seconds. Navigate options using the '+' or '-' buttons and execute with the TAP button.

Main Unit Settings Menu Options:

Note: The settings menu loops. Use the '-' button to navigate in reverse.

Software Settings: Adjust settings via the SMART HJC BT app or Device Manager.

Troubleshooting

For troubleshooting, contact HJC via www.hjchelmets.jp/contact.

Power Reset: If the headset is not functioning correctly, locate the pinhole/power reset button next to the charging port. Gently press it with a pin or clip. The main unit will shut down. Note: This does not reset the unit to factory settings. The charging LED is not the reset button.

Factory Reset: This erases all settings and restores factory defaults. Access the settings menu (hold TAP for 10 seconds), navigate to 'Factory Reset' (tap '+' eight times, then TAP once), and confirm.
