Recommended battery settings guide

1.0 Introduction

This guide provides recommended settings and establishes communication for operating Phocos Any-Grid™ PSW-H series hybrid inverter chargers with Leoch LFeLi-48100TB, LFeLi-48150TB, and LFeLi-48100S battery modules in a 48 Vdc configuration.

When using this guide, charge/discharge settings are automatically negotiated with the battery. For manual settings, a communication cable is not required, but the battery type in the PSW-H settings menu 05 must be set to "User defined" (USE). Users are responsible for selecting settings within battery specifications to preserve warranty.

Installation must follow the Any-Grid "User and Installation Manual" and the Leoch installation manual. Refer to chapter "5.0 Battery Settings and Communication Cable Installation" for connection details.

WARNING: Read and respect all warnings in the installation manuals of the Any-Grid, battery modules, and connected equipment. Installation must be performed by a trained professional.

2.0 Requirements

To proceed with this guide, the following are required:

3.0 System Overview

The system overview diagram illustrates the components: optional PV Panels, Leoch batteries, a Phocos Any-Grid Hybrid Inverter Charger, AC Loads, and optional Public Grid or Generator inputs.

4.0 Battery Sizing

To maintain the full battery warranty, each battery module should not exceed 100 Adc continuous current (refer to Leoch manual). It is recommended to use at least 2 battery modules in parallel for sufficient continuous and peak current for a single PSW-H-5KW at full power. For multiple Any-Grid units, increase the number of batteries accordingly. Using too few batteries may void your Leoch battery warranty.

Batteries must be wired in parallel to form a single large battery bank for multiple Any-Grids, with a nominal voltage of 48 Vdc. All Any-Grids must connect to a single battery array.

5.0 Battery Settings and Communication Cable Installation

CAUTION: Before connecting battery modules to the Any-Grid(s), follow these installation instructions step-by-step. Keep the battery, AC input source, AC output loads, and PV input disconnected until instructed.

Any battery settings will be overwritten if the communication cable is used. Manual settings are at your own risk.

  1. Make the battery communication cable as described in chapter 2. This cable is specifically designed for connecting the Any-Grid PSW-H to Leoch batteries.
  2. Ensure all battery modules are turned off.
  3. Set the battery DIP switches as described in the battery manual, based on the number and arrangement of batteries.
  4. Ensure battery modules are still off. Connect the Any-Grid(s) to the battery power terminals (positive and negative) with correct polarity.

CAUTION: Incorrect battery polarity can damage the Any-Grid and battery, which is not covered by warranty.

LFeLi-48100TB, LFeLi-48150TB models: Connect the battery communication cable to the master battery's RS-485A port and the Any-Grid's BMS port. Ensure correct cable ends are connected.

LFeLi-48100S model: Connect the battery communication cable to the master battery's RS-485A port and the Any-Grid's BMS port. Ensure correct cable ends are connected.

  1. Ensure battery modules are wired as per the Leoch battery manual. Turn on batteries, using pre-charge to avoid sudden inrush current.
  2. Ensure the Any-Grid's "ON/OFF" load power button is in the ON position (depressed), with no loads connected.

The Any-Grid(s) should now be running, with displays on.

  1. Apply the following settings on the Any-Grid connected to the Leoch battery bank via the communication cable. Refer to the Any-Grid manual, chapter Operation → Device Operation Settings → Settings menus.
  1. Once settings are applied, exit the settings menu by pressing the 'X' symbol to return to the main view.
  2. Activate circuit breakers or insert fuses to energize inputs and outputs on the Any-Grid in the following order (skip any not connected):
    • a) AC input
    • b) PV input
    • c) AC output
  3. If using more than one Any-Grid, this procedure ensures the unit connected to the Leoch battery communicates with the Leoch battery BMS. Other connected Any-Grid units will automatically have their battery type set to “User-defined”, which is normal.

The commissioning and programming of battery-related settings for the Any-Grid is now complete.
