OpenTherm Power Up and Configuration
OpenTherm is a control method used by modern heating systems. Instead of cycling the boiler on and off, modulating control allows the amount of heat supplied by the boiler to be adjusted to meet the thermostat's varying demands. This results in higher system efficiency, energy savings, and improved room comfort.
Important: Ensure all receiver wiring is completed and the receiver is powered ON before inserting batteries into the thermostat.
- After inserting batteries, the thermostat will start up. Press [SELECT].
- Use [⬆️] or [⬇️] to select the language and press [SELECT] to confirm.
OpenTherm - Warm Water Configuration
If OpenTherm is connected, the device software will automatically configure OpenTherm settings.
- Press [MENÜ].
- Use [⬆️] or [⬇️] to navigate to the Warm Water submenu and press [SELECT].
- Use [⬆️] or [⬇️] to set the desired temperature and press [SELECT] to confirm.
The thermostat will return to the main screen. Press any key. The text line will indicate that warm water is being prepared.
Standard Start and Configuration
Follow steps 1 to 17 in the OpenTherm section for initial setup and configuration.
Attention: Use [⬆️] or [⬇️] to choose between TPI (2) or Spread (6). You can only select one.
TPI (Time Proportional & Integral)
TPI is a self-learning, time-proportional algorithm that ensures economical system operation by maintaining a more accurate temperature during the control process and limiting overload conditions. Benefits include stable room temperature and minimized energy consumption. The RT520 offers 3 types of TPI control:
- 1. For radiators (6 CPH, cycles per hour)
- 2. For underfloor heating (3 CPH, cycles per hour)
- 3. For electric heating (9 CPH, cycles per hour)
Press [SELECT] to choose the TPI type.
Spread (Spreizung)
Spread is the difference between the measured and set temperature.
Use [⬆️] or [⬇️] to set the spread value and press [SELECT] to confirm.
Programming - Automatic Mode
The thermostat supports up to 6 time intervals per day, each with a settable temperature. You can configure 2, 3, or up to 6 temperatures daily. All time periods must be defined.
- Press [MENÜ].
- Use [⬆️] or [⬇️] to select the program type and press [SELECT]. Options include:
- +2: Program for weekdays and weekends.
- ALL: One program for the entire week.
- Individuell: Daily program.
- Press [SELECT] to confirm program type.
- Use [⬆️] or [⬇️] to set the desired temperature for the interval and press [SELECT] to confirm.
- Repeat for all time intervals.
To remove an interval (e.g., if you don't want to use all 6 intervals), press the [⬆️] arrow in that interval until lines appear, then press [SELECT] to confirm removal.
Optimized Start
Optimized Start is a selectable function that starts the heating at the optimal time, based on ambient temperature, to reach the setpoint temperature. It saves energy by only firing the boiler for the minimum time required.
Press [SELECT] to activate/deactivate Optimized Start.
Optimized Stop
Optimized Stop calculates how long the house takes to cool down and switches off the heating at the earliest possible moment. This means the system does not run when not strictly necessary. If a sudden heat loss occurs during this period, Optimized Stop is overridden to restore comfort conditions.
Press [SELECT] to activate/deactivate Optimized Stop.
Landlord Settings (Vermieter Einstellungen)
Landlord Settings is a PIN-protected feature allowing landlords to set a maintenance reminder on the thermostat, informing the tenant when the heating system is due for its annual service.
- Press [MENÜ].
- Use [⬆️] or [⬇️] to navigate to the Landlord submenu and press [SELECT].
- Use [⬆️] or [⬇️] to set the PIN code, pressing [SELECT] for each digit.
- Use [⬆️] or [⬇️] to select the maintenance day and press [SELECT] to confirm.
- Use [⬆️] or [⬇️] to set the duration of the reminder period and press [SELECT] to confirm.
- Use [⬆️] or [⬇️] to select the temperature lock and press [SELECT] to confirm.
- Use [⬆️] or [⬇️] to set the phone number (for service contact) and press [SELECT] for each digit.
Once maintenance mode is active, the device will set and lock the temperature as configured by the landlord. The landlord must be contacted for the heating to be serviced.
Establishing Wireless Connection between Thermostat and Receiver
If you have the RT520RF set, the transmitter and receiver are pre-paired from the factory. For individual components or additional receivers, ALL receivers must be re-paired with the transmitter (thermostat).
Note: During the pairing process, the thermostat and receiver should be at least 1 meter apart.
If you have purchased the RT520TX transmitter and RXRT520 receiver separately, or if you need to re-pair your thermostat with the receiver:
- Ensure the receiver is powered OFF and its switches are set to AUTO and ON.
- Restore power to the receiver and wait until the LED lights up solid red.
- Quickly switch the receiver OFF and then ON again. The LED will now flash red, activating pairing mode.
- Press [MENÜ] on the thermostat.
- Use [⬆️] or [⬇️] to navigate to the 'Connect' submenu and press [SELECT].
- Use [⬆️] or [⬇️] to select 'Connect' and press [SELECT].
- The pairing process will remain active for up to 10 minutes.
- Once the devices are successfully paired, the LED on the receiver will light up solid red.
Checking Wireless Connection (TEST)
- Press [MENÜ] on the thermostat.
- Use [⬆️] or [⬇️] to navigate to the 'Connect' submenu and press [SELECT].
- Use [⬆️] or [⬇️] to select 'TEST' and press [SELECT].
- The test process can take up to 10 minutes. The red and green LEDs on the receiver will start flashing.
Reset Function
- To reset the thermostat, press and hold [MENÜ], [⬇️], and [BOOST] simultaneously for 5 seconds.
- The device will reset and restart automatically.
Note: Landlord Settings are not reset.
