Wiring Diagrams Description
The diagrams illustrate the connections between the Salus RT520/RT520TX thermostats and the RXRT520 receiver, as well as connections to the heating system's boiler.
RT520 Wiring Diagram
This diagram shows the RT520 thermostat connected to the RXRT520 receiver. It details the OpenTherm connection (A/B) between the thermostat and receiver. The thermostat's COM, NO, and NC terminals are shown connecting to the boiler's control circuit. The receiver requires a 230V AC supply via its L and N terminals.
RT520TX Wiring Diagram
This diagram illustrates the wireless RT520TX thermostat's connection to the RXRT520 receiver. It shows the OpenTherm communication (A/B) between the thermostat and receiver. The receiver handles the boiler switching via its COM and NO terminals, and requires a 230V AC supply via L and N. TPI and SPAN settings are configured on the thermostat.
OpenTherm Power Up and Configuration
OpenTherm Modulating Control is a method used by modern heating systems. Instead of switching a boiler on/off, it allows the boiler's heat output to be controlled based on the thermostat's demand. This results in greater system efficiency, energy savings, and improved room comfort.
Procedure:
- Make receiver connections and power the receiver before inserting batteries into the thermostat.
- Step 1: Using UP or DOWN, set the day, then press SELECT.
- Step 2: Using UP or DOWN, select temperature accuracy (0.1°C or 0.5°C), then press SELECT.
- Step 3: Using UP or DOWN, select the week format, then press SELECT.
When OpenTherm is connected, the device software automatically adjusts to OpenTherm settings.
OpenTherm - Hot Water Configuration
This section describes how to configure hot water settings using OpenTherm.
- Press MENU.
- Using UP or DOWN, navigate to the Hot Water submenu and press SELECT.
- Using UP or DOWN, adjust the desired hot water temperature, then press SELECT.
- The thermostat will return to the main screen. The text bar indicates that hot water is in operation.
Initial Setup (After inserting batteries)
- After inserting batteries, the thermostat powers up. Press SELECT.
- Using UP and DOWN, choose your language (e.g., ENGLISH), then press SELECT.
- Using UP or DOWN, choose the time format (12 hr or 24 hr), then press SELECT.
- Using UP or DOWN, set the hour, then press SELECT.
- Using UP or DOWN, set the minutes, then press SELECT.
- Using UP or DOWN, set the year, then press SELECT.
- Using UP or DOWN, set the month, then press SELECT.
Standard Power Up and Configuration
Follow steps 1 to 14 from the "OpenTherm Power Up and Configuration" section for initial setup.
TPI (Time Proportional & Integral) Control
TPI is a self-learning, time-proportional algorithm that ensures economical system operation through accurate temperature maintenance and overload limitation. It minimizes energy consumption and provides stable room temperature.
RT520 offers 3 types of TPI control:
- 1. For radiator (6 CPH - Cycles Per Hour)
- 2. For underfloor heating (3 CPH)
- 3. For electric heating (9 CPH)
Procedure:
- Press SELECT.
- Using UP or DOWN, select the TPI type you want to use, then press SELECT.
- Press SELECT.
- Using UP or DOWN, select the Span value (difference between measured and set temperature), then press SELECT.
Optimum Stop
Optimum Stop calculates how long the house will take to cool down and turns off the boiler at the earliest possible moment, preventing unnecessary operation. If heat loss occurs, Optimum Stop is overridden to maintain comfort.
Optimum Start
Optimum Start is a selectable function that starts the boiler operation at the optimum time, based on ambient room temperature, to achieve the set-point temperature. It saves energy by firing the boiler only for the minimum required time.
Landlord Settings
Landlord settings is a PIN code protected feature that allows landlords to set a service reminder on the thermostat, warning the tenant when the boiler is due its annual service. The set point temperature will be locked.
Procedure:
- Press MENU.
- Using UP or DOWN, navigate to the Landlord submenu and press SELECT.
- Using UP or DOWN, select ON or OFF for the service reminder, then press SELECT.
- Using UP or DOWN, enter the PIN code number, pressing SELECT to confirm each digit.
- Using UP or DOWN, select the due date for the service, then press SELECT.
The thermostat will return to the main screen.
RT520TX Thermostat Pairing with the Receiver
If you are using the RT520RF pack, pairing is already done. If you purchased RT520TX and RXRT520 separately or need to re-pair:
Procedure:
- Ensure the device is disconnected from power. Set receiver switches to AUTO and ON.
- Connect the receiver to power and wait for the red LED to light steadily.
- Quickly switch the receiver's switch from OFF to ON. A flashing red LED confirms pairing mode entry.
- Press MENU on the thermostat.
- Using UP or DOWN, navigate to the Pairing submenu and press SELECT.
- Using UP or DOWN, select PAIR and press SELECT.
- The pairing process takes up to 10 minutes. Once successful, the receiver's LED will turn solid red.
Test the Pairing Process
- Press MENU on the thermostat.
- Using UP or DOWN, navigate to the Pairing submenu and press SELECT.
- Using UP or DOWN, select TEST and press SELECT.
- The testing process takes up to 10 minutes. The red and green LEDs on the receiver will flash.
Programming - Automatic Mode
In this mode, users can set schedules for the thermostat, defining temperature setpoints for specific periods. Programmed schedules should cover all time periods.
Procedure:
- Press SELECT.
- Using UP or DOWN, select ON and press SELECT.
- Using UP or DOWN, select the program type:
- +2: Schedule for working days and weekend.
- All: One schedule for the entire week.
- Individual: Daily schedule.
- Press SELECT to confirm the program type.
- Using UP or DOWN, set the hour and then press SELECT.
- Using UP or DOWN, set the minutes and then press SELECT.
- Repeat the process for all time periods.
- Using UP or DOWN, select the warning period and then press SELECT.
- Using UP or DOWN, select the lock temperature and then press SELECT.
- Using UP or DOWN, enter the phone number (for service reminders), pressing SELECT to confirm each digit.
You can now check your settings. Press UP or DOWN on the relevant screen to make changes.
Factory Reset
To reset the thermostat to factory default settings:
- Press and hold MENU, DOWN, and BOOST simultaneously for 5 seconds.
Landlord settings will not be reset. The device will reset and start up automatically.
