iTECHBM500 Battery Monitor User Guide
This guide provides instructions for the iTECHBM500, a high-precision battery monitor designed to capture integrated values in real-time.
Introduction
The iTECHBM500 is a sophisticated high-precision battery monitor that captures integrated values in real-time. It utilizes a 5000 current shunt to measure discharge/recharge currents and calculates Ampere hours (Ah) going in and out of the battery. High-precision voltage measurements are taken and displayed in real-time for lithium, lithium-ion, inset, and end-count-metal hydride batteries.
Electrical Parameters
Parameter | Min | Max | Unit |
Voltage | 0.0 | 80.0 | V |
Current | 0.0 | 500.0 | A |
Capacity | 0.1 | 999.0 | Ah |
Active Parallel Current | -10.0 | 10.0 | mA |
Standby Parallel Current | 0.0 | 12.0 | mA |
Sleep Standby Current | 0.0 | 0.5 | mA |
Voltage Accuracy | ± 1 | % | |
Current Accuracy | ± 1 | % |
Installation and Connecting
Connecting the Shunt:
- Connect the 8- terminal of the shunt to the negative terminal of the battery.
- Connect the 9- terminal of the shunt to the load on the charger.
- Connect a sense wire to the positive terminal of the battery. It is recommended that a 14- fuse be installed in series with the sense wire.
- Finally, connect one end of the shielded cable to the iTECH8M500 display cable already installed on the display and the other end of the shielded cable to the current shunt.
Installation Notes:
- The iTECHBM500 may be panel-mounted and secured in place by the brackets and butterfly nut.
- Fully charge the battery bank such that it reaches 100% before connecting the iTECHBM500. This will help to ensure accurate SOC readings.
Connection Diagram Description:
The diagram shows the battery positive terminal connecting to the shunt's positive input (B+). The shunt's negative output (B-) connects to the battery negative terminal. The load positive terminal connects to the shunt's positive output (P+), and the load negative terminal connects to the shunt's negative output (P-). A sense wire connects from the battery's positive terminal to the display unit.
Operation and Settings
- Use the charge and discharge monitor to ensure the iTECHBM500 is capturing the appropriate currents.
- Use the 24- fuse to ensure the battery voltage is displayed correctly. Cross-reference with a voltage multi-meter.
- To reset the capacity, press the ▶ button for three seconds to set the capacity to 100%.
- To enter the capacity, press the SET button for three seconds. Use the ◀ button to ▶ and set the current voltage to the battery.
- For parallel connections, enter the code usable capacity of the system by adding the usable capacities in A to Z.
- For 24V series connections, press the ▶ button for three seconds to set the capacity to 100%.
- For single charging systems, the voltage sense wire should be connected to the system terminals.
- For multi-bank charging systems, connect the shunt and voltage sense wire to the battery that has the positive terminal of the system. This will allow the iTECHBM500 to monitor one battery to represent all the batteries in the system.
Important Notes:
- Ensure that the battery/batteries you wish to monitor are connected to the shunt.
- It is crucial to set the capacity to 100% and set the Ah at the first installation. If this is set up incorrectly, the iTECHBM500 will not give an accurate reading.
- If a charger is not connected to the shunt, the iTECHBM500 will not register charging on this particular device and will not give an accurate reading.
- The voltage sense wire should be connected to the positive and negative terminal of the battery.
ITECHBM Interface Description
The iTECHBM500 display shows:
- Battery Symbol: Indicates the battery status.
- Charge Indicator: Shows the current charge status.
- Value: Displays the current reading (e.g., voltage, current, Ah).
- Present Voltage: Shows the current voltage of the battery.
- Present Current: Shows the current flowing through the shunt.
- Capacity Percentage: Displays the remaining battery capacity as a percentage.
ITECHBM Dimensions
The iTECHBM500 has a diameter of 64mm and a depth of 24mm.
