Firmware Updates

Leica continuously works on improving and optimizing the camera's functionality. As many camera functions are software-controlled, improvements and additions can be installed retrospectively. Leica provides firmware updates at irregular intervals, available for download from the official website.

Registered camera owners will be notified of new updates. Users of the Leica FOTOS app will also receive automatic notifications for their Leica cameras.

There are two methods for installing firmware updates:

• Conveniently via the Leica FOTOS app.
• Directly via the camera menu.

Finding the Currently Installed Firmware Version

▶️ Select "Firmware Update" in the capture menu. The current firmware version is displayed in the submenu.

A visual representation of the camera's firmware update screen is described: it shows "Installed Version: 1.xx", a reminder to ensure the battery is fully charged, and buttons for "Confirm" and "Back".

Executing a Firmware Update

Warning: Any interruption during a running firmware update can cause serious and irreparable damage to the equipment. Therefore, users must observe the following precautions:

• Do not switch off the camera during the update.
• Do not remove the memory card during the update.
• Do not remove the rechargeable battery during the update.

Note: A warning message will appear if the battery is insufficiently charged. Recharge the battery and repeat the process.

Preparation

• Fully charge and insert the rechargeable battery.
• Ensure any stored firmware files on the memory card are removed.
• It is recommended to save any images on the memory card and reformat it before the update. (Caution: Loss of data! All data stored on the memory card will be lost during formatting.)
• Download the latest firmware version.
• Save the downloaded firmware file to the memory card. The file must be stored in the main directory of the memory card (not in a sub-directory).
• Insert the memory card into the camera.
• Switch the camera on.

Updating the Camera Firmware

• Preparation: Follow the steps outlined above.
• ▶️ Select "Firmware Update" in the capture menu.
• ▶️ Select "Confirm".
• A prompt with camera information will be displayed.
• The update will start automatically.
• The status LED will flash during the process.
• Upon successful completion, an on-screen message and a prompt to restart the device will appear.
• ▶️ Switch the camera off and then on again.

Notes:

• After restarting, date & time, and the preferred language will need to be set up again. Relevant prompts will appear on screen.
• These settings are applied automatically if the update is loaded via Leica FOTOS.
