BCI-GM31

Navigation Unlock & Reverse Camera Input Interface for GM LAN 29-Bit Vehicles

Introduction & Features

The BCI-GM31 is a Navigation Unlock integration interface that allows the factory navigation features of your 29-bit GM LAN radio or the reverse camera to be used by the passenger at anytime.

Installation

Disconnect the black 14-pin and brown 16-pin harness from the back of the radio. Connect the male 14 & 16 Pin connectors of the BCI-GM31 harness into the 14-pin and 16-pin ports on the back of the radio. Connect the factory 14-pin and 16-pin harness into the female connectors on the BCI-GM31 harness. Connect the black 24-pin micro-fit connector of the BCI-GM31 harness into the BCI-GM31.

Adding a Reverse Camera

The radio's camera reverse input will need to be enabled via the dealership using the GM MDI tool. Once enabled, disconnect the yellow RCA's in the BCI-GM31 harness and connect the radio side RCA to the aftermarket camera's video output RCA. To view the reverse camera at anytime, power the aftermarket reverse camera via accessory +12V, not a reverse +12V signal.

Vehicles Equipped with a Factory Reverse Camera

To enable viewing the factory reverse camera at anytime, the factory reverse camera must be powered when this feature is active. Connect the BCI-GM31's red camera turn-on wire to the factory power wire for the reverse camera. The location of this wire varies by vehicle. Please see below for different locations.

? Note: If the Reverse Camera unlock feature is not desired, this wire does not need to be located and connected.

Connection Diagram Description

The diagram shows connections from the Factory Radio to the BCI-GM31, and from the BCI-GM31 to the Vehicle.

The BCI-GM31 unit is labeled as a "GM LAN 29bit Universal Navigation Unlock Interface". The harness is labeled "BCI-GM31-HAR".

Operation

BCI-GM31 Controls

The BCI-GM31 is operated using the vehicle's steering wheel controls (SWC).

Activating the Navigation Unlock

Press and hold the "Source" button on the SWC for two seconds. The vehicle's information center will display "Confirm Safe Use" with one chime. Press the "Source" button again to acknowledge "safe use," confirming that usage will be by the passenger only while the vehicle is in motion. This activates the BCI-GM31. To de-activate, press and hold the "Source" button until two chimes are heard.

? Note: When connected with a BLU-GM29, an additional chime may occur after 1 second. Continue holding the Source button for 5 seconds to activate/de-activate.

Activating the Reverse Camera

First, activate the navigation unlock using the SWC. Ensure both control lights on the rearview mirror controls (on the driver's door) are off and not controlling either mirror. Press down on the control pad. The rearview camera image will now display on the navigation screen.

? Note: For vehicles without power mirrors, a toggle switch must be installed between the brown and black wires on the BCI-GM31 harness to activate the reverse camera. Refer to the connector schematic on page 1.

Warning

⚠️ WARNING: To prevent distraction and potential accidents, the driver must never use systems unlocked by the BCI-GM31 while the vehicle is in motion. The driver must always maintain attention on the road, even when the passenger is operating these features.
