Connections
This section details how to connect the AM120 Adjustable Micro Tweezers to various JBC control units and accessories.
Control Unit Connections
The AM120 can be connected to DI, DDE, or DME Control Units. The diagram shows the rear panel of a DDE Control Unit with ports labeled PORT 1, PORT 2, and PERIPHERALS. The AM120 tweezers connect to the TOOL port on the control unit.
Stand Connection
The AM120 requires the AMS Stand for PA120 & AM120 Micro Tweezers. The stand connects to the control unit via a cable.
Cartridge Connection
The AM120 uses C120 Cartridges, which are sold separately.
Pedal Connection (Optional)
For advanced operations, the P305 Pedal Kit for Control Units can be used. The pedal connects to its adapter, which then connects to the control unit's peripheral port. The tool must be connected to its stand, and the stand to the pedal adapter.
Pedal Functionality: The pedal functionality can be reversed using a switch on the adapter:
- NO (Normally Open): Press to work.
- NC (Normally Closed): Release to work.
Changing Cartridges
Follow these steps to change the cartridges:
- Removing: Place the cartridges in the extractor and pull the tweezers to remove them.
- Positioning: Place the tweezers on top of the new cartridge and slightly press down.
- Inserting: Use the grooves to insert the cartridges up to the mark.
Important: It is essential to insert the cartridges up to the mark for a proper connection. Ensure the cartridge contact areas are clean for optimal tool function.
Cartridge Alignment
- Rotational Alignment: Slightly turn the wheels to align the cartridges as required.
- Vertical Alignment: Close the tweezers for easier alignment. The rear wheel allows for equal vertical alignment of the cartridges. The diagram shows examples of aligned and not aligned cartridges.
Compatible Cartridges
The AM120 works with C120 cartridges. Various types are available, including Conical Bent, Blade, and Chisel Bent. Visit www.jbctools.com to find the best model for your soldering needs.
Example: Chip Component Rework Process using Tweezers and Pedal
JBC's AM120 Adjustable Micro Tweezers are effective for desoldering and soldering chip components when used with a pedal connected to a JBC station.
Step 1: Connections
Connect the pedal P305 to its adapter, and the adapter to the control unit. Connect the tool to its stand, and the stand to the pedal adapter.
Step 2: Desoldering
Lift the tweezers from the holder, press and hold the pedal to activate the tweezers and desolder the component. Once the pedal is released, the tweezers enter hibernation mode and cool down.
Step 3: Pad Cleaning
Clean the pads using JBC's DS360 Micro Desoldering Iron. This operation requires the JBC DSS desoldering station.
Step 4: Solder Paste Dispensing
Apply the necessary solder paste to the new chip component using a JBC DPM Solder Paste Dispenser.
Step 5: Placing
Do not press the pedal. Use the tweezers to position the component on the tinned pad. The inactive tweezers prevent premature heating of the component.
Step 6: Soldering
Once the component is in position, press and hold the pedal to activate the tweezers and perform the soldering.
Safety
Warning: It is imperative to follow safety guidelines to prevent electric shock, injury, fire, or explosion.
- Do not use the units for purposes other than soldering or rework. Incorrect use may cause a fire.
- Ensure the power cord is plugged into approved, properly grounded bases. Hold the plug, not the wire, when unplugging.
- Do not work on electrically live parts.
- Place the tool in the stand when not in use to activate sleep mode. The soldering tip, nozzle, metal part of the tool, and stand may remain hot even when the station is turned off. Handle with care.
- Do not leave the appliance unattended when it is on.
- Do not cover ventilation grills, as heat can ignite flammable products.
- Avoid flux contact with skin or eyes to prevent irritation.
- Be cautious of fumes produced during soldering.
- Keep the workplace clean and tidy. Wear appropriate protection glasses and gloves to avoid personal harm.
- Exercise extreme care with liquid tin waste, which can cause burns.
- This appliance can be used by children aged eight and above, and individuals with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience, provided they receive adequate supervision or instruction and understand the hazards. Children must not play with the appliance.
- Maintenance must not be performed by children unless supervised.
