The handle of the Personnel Winch is removable and its location determines the function of the unit. In order to change the unit's function, the handle must be removed from the primary crank to the freewheel release or vice versa.

The user must read and follow the Safewaze product manual and the following guidelines when operating the Personnel Winch:

  • The primary crank controls the raising and lowering of the lifeline (1). To lower the lifeline, turn the handle in a counterclockwise direction. To raise the lifeline, turn the handle in a clockwise direction.
  • The freewheel release engages the unit's freewheel mode (2). To engage freewheel mode, turn the handle counterclockwise 30°. Do not force the handle or over turn when met with resistance. The spring loaded handle will move back into its resting place if the user lets go due to its spring-loaded feature.
  • A Competent Person has determined the installation location is capable of withstanding anticipated fall loads and meets, or exceeds, ANSI and OSHA required anchorage strength regulations.
