Introduction

The Vogue Max Combi IE is a wall mounted, room sealed, condensing combination boiler, featuring full sequence automatic spark ignition and fan assisted combustion. Due to the high efficiency of the boiler, condensate is produced from the flue gases and this is drained to a suitable disposal point through a plastic waste pipe at the base of the boiler. A condensate 'plume' will also be visible at the flue terminal. The Vogue is a combination boiler providing both central heating and instantaneous domestic hot water.

Safety Information

Gas Safety (Installation & Use) Regulations: It is the law that this boiler must be installed by a Gas Safe Registered Engineer, in accordance with the current regulations. In IE, installation must be carried out by a Registered Gas Installer (RGII) in accordance with I.S. 813 "Domestic Gas Installations", current Building Regulations, and ETCI rules for electrical installation.

It is essential that the instructions in this booklet are strictly followed for safe and economical operation of the boiler.

Important Notes

Minimum Clearances

Clearances: 165mm above, 100mm below, 2.5mm at the sides. Minimum front clearance when built into a cupboard is 5mm from the cupboard door, but 450mm overall clearance is required with the cupboard door open for servicing.

Bottom Clearance: After installation, bottom clearance can be reduced to 5mm, provided it is obtained with an easily removable panel to allow for 100mm clearance for servicing.

Boiler Controls

The control panel features the following:

The display shows operational status, e.g., 'ON 60°C READY TIMER OR ROOM THERMOSTAT OFF'. The pressure gauge indicates the central heating system pressure.

Operation

Central Heating and Domestic Hot Water Required: The boiler will fire and supply heat to radiators, prioritising Domestic Hot Water on demand. Preheat may operate as described on page 17 when no central heating call is present.

Domestic Hot Water Only Required: Set the Central Heating temperature control knob (E) to 'boiler off' or turn external central heating controls off. If pre-heat is selected, the boiler will fire periodically to maintain hot water temperature.

Note: If the pump and diverter valve have not operated in 24 hours, they will run briefly to prevent seizing.

Control of Water Temperature

Domestic Hot Water: The DHW temperature is limited to a maximum of 65°C at low draw-off rate, adjustable via knob (F). Flow rates and temperature rise can vary, requiring adjustment at the tap.

Central Heating: The boiler controls radiator temperature to a maximum of 80°C, adjustable via knob (E).

Weather Compensation

If the Weather Compensation option is fitted, the Central Heating Temperature Control knob (E) adjusts room temperature. Turning clockwise increases room temperature; anti-clockwise decreases it. The system automatically achieves the desired room temperature based on outside weather conditions.

Boiler Shutdown and Restart

To Shut Down the Boiler: Set the Domestic Hot Water temperature control knob (F) to 'boiler off'.

To Restart the Boiler: Repeat the 'To light the boiler' procedure (page 7) and set the Domestic Hot Water temperature control knob (F) between 40°C & 65°C.

Frost Protection

If no frost protection is provided and frost is likely during a short absence, leave heating controls at a reduced temperature. For longer periods, drain the entire system. If a frost thermostat is fitted, leave the timer off, mains supply ON, and boiler thermostat in normal running position.

Boiler Overheat Protection

The boiler will shut down automatically in the event of overheating. The display will show 'OVERHEAT LOCKOUT'. Follow on-screen instructions to restart, or contact an installer if the fault persists (01482 498660).

Loss of System Water Pressure

The pressure gauge (G) indicates system pressure. If pressure falls below the original installation pressure (1.0-1.5 bar), conduct the re-pressurising procedure. The boiler will not operate if pressure is less than 0.5 bar.

Low Water Pressure Display: If pressure is low, the display shows 'LOW WATER PRESSURE'. Follow instructions to fill the system to 1.0-1.5 bar using the filling loop (handles A & B) located under the boiler.

To Top Up the System

  1. Ensure handles A & B (blue) are closed.
  2. Remove plug and cap.
  3. Connect filling loop to the Domestic Hot Water (DHW) inlet and tighten. Ensure the other end is hand tight.
  4. Turn DHW Inlet A handle horizontal.
  5. Gradually turn filling loop handle B horizontal, checking for leaks.
  6. Wait for pressure gauge to reach 1 to 1.5 bar.
  7. Turn valves A & B back to the closed position.
  8. Disconnect filling loop, replace cap and plug. Note potential water spillage.

Condensate Drain

The appliance has a siphonic condensate trap to reduce freezing risk. If the condensate pipe freezes:

  1. Follow the pipe's route to its termination point and locate the frozen blockage (likely at exposed points, bends, or dips).
  2. Apply a hot water bottle, microwaveable heat pack, or warm damp cloth to the frozen area. Warm water can be used, but NOT boiling water. Be cautious as warm water may freeze and create hazards.
  3. Once the blockage is cleared and condensate flows freely, reset the appliance. Refer to 'To Light the boiler'.
  4. If the appliance fails to ignite, call a Gas Safe Registered engineer.

Preventative Solutions: During cold weather, set the boiler stat to maximum (return to original setting after cold spell). Place heating on continuous and set room stat to 15°C overnight or when unoccupied.

If the appliance is reset after a lockout, it will not light until the lockout condition is cleared.

Escape of Gas

Should a gas leak or fault be suspected, contact the National Gas Emergency Service without delay: Tel. 1850 20 50 50. DO NOT SEARCH FOR GAS LEAKS WITH A NAKED FLAME.

Cleaning

For normal cleaning, dust with a dry cloth. To remove stubborn marks, wipe with a damp cloth and finish with a dry cloth. DO NOT use abrasive cleaning materials.

Maintenance

The appliance should be serviced at least once a year by a Gas Safe Registered Engineer or an RGII.

Carbon Monoxide Alarms

Carbon monoxide detectors installed near the boiler will sound a loud noise if a leak is detected. If the alarm appears faulty, first change the batteries. If the fault persists, contact your landlord or replace the device with one compliant to BS EN 50291-1:2010.

Points for the Boiler User

Please check for problems external to the boiler before requesting a service engineer's visit. A charge may apply for visits where the problem is external to the appliance or if access is not gained by the engineer.

Fault Finding

If a fault occurs, the display will show a description and potential corrective actions. Additional troubleshooting:

Display Functions in Normal Operation

Change Settings

Menu Operation

Pre-heat: If pre-heat is switched on, the boiler will periodically fire the burner to reduce hot water time. If off, response time increases, and gas consumption reduces.

Press MENU. The screen displays options including 'SHOW EFFICIENCY LEVEL', 'HOT WATER PREHEAT ON / OFF', and 'SERVICE COMPANY NAME'.

To switch preheat off, press 'OFF'. To switch preheat on, press 'ON'.

Press the down arrow (↓) and select to access 'SERVICE COMPANY PHONE NUMBER'.

Efficiency Level: Press MENU, then select 'SHOW EFFICIENCY LEVEL'. The screen displays 'EFFICIENCY LEVEL' with a slider showing the current level (e.g., 60%). Press EXIT twice to return to normal operation.

Reset Service Time: If the boiler has not been serviced within 12 months, a message will appear. To reset, press MENU, select 'CHANGE SERVICE INTERVAL'. The screen shows 'NEXT SERVICE DUE: 0 DAYS'. Press the up arrow (↑) until the desired number of days is shown, then press SET. Press EXIT to return to normal operation.
