Cascade Systems

Overview

For installations requiring more output delivered in a flexible way, up to 6 Independent Heat boilers can be installed in a cascade using Evomax 2 accessories. An output of up to 900kW is possible with this modular option, available in both inline (standard and low height) and back-to-back arrangements.

Key Considerations:

  • A standard height inline or back-to-back cascade can accommodate up to 6 boilers.
  • A low height inline cascade can accommodate up to 4 boilers.
  • One standard height frame is required per boiler in the cascade.
  • One pump is required per boiler in the cascade.

The wide range of options is detailed on subsequent pages. Alternatively, use the online Evomax 2 Cascade Configurator tool: idealcommercialheating.com/evomax2-cascade-configurator.

Cascade Accessories

Frame Kits
  • Standard height: Up to 6 boilers. 1 frame required per boiler. (UIN: 206970)
  • Low height inline: Up to 4 boilers. Included with Low Height Header Kit.

Note: Boilers are not included with frame or header kits.

Header Kits

Available for standard height frames (inline and back-to-back) and low height frames, in various configurations for 2 to 6 boilers, with different DN flange sizes and suitable for PHEX or (M)LLH separation.

Hydraulic Separation
Plate Heat Exchanger (PHEX)

Covers outputs from 60kW to 900kW. Brazed plate heat exchangers offer optimum heat transfer efficiency and low resistance in a compact footprint. They are designed to be used with Ideal Heating frame and header kits.

Features and Benefits: Compact design, no gaskets, low maintenance, self-cleaning, pressure tested, ensures optimal heat transfer, separates system water from the boiler, and ensures high performance.

Refer to PHEX spec sheets for details of secondary flange sizes and PN ratings.

Low Loss Header (LLH) and Magnetic Low Loss Header (MLLH)

LLH provides an alternative approach to hydraulic separation, available in various sizes. MLLH combines the benefits of LLH with a magnetic filter.

219554DN150

Note: All low loss and magnetic low loss headers use PN6 flanges.

Pumps

One pump is required per boiler in the cascade. Grundfos UPML (M)LLH pump kit (UIN: 222659) or Grundfos UPMXXL PHEX pump kit (UIN: 222660) are available.

Insulation

Modular insulation kits are available for header kits, low loss headers, and pumps. The number of kits required depends on the number of boilers in the cascade.

Flue Systems

Ideal Heating offers a comprehensive range of flue kits, including horizontal and vertical concentric (C Type) and open flue (B Type) options.

Concentric Flue Options (C Type)

Horizontal Wall Flue Kit

Details maximum lengths and pressure differentials for various models (40/40P to 150kW) with 80/125 and 100/150 flue sizes. Includes components like 90° elbow, terminal, locking collars, and wall plates.

Vertical Roof Flue Kit

Details maximum lengths and pressure differentials for various models with 80/125 and 100/150 flue sizes. Includes terminal, locking collar, finishing plates, and bracket.

Note: For CE certification, Evomax boilers must use Ideal concentric flues.

Open Flue Options (B Type)

Details maximum lengths and pressure differentials for various models with 80/125 and 100/150 flue sizes. Requires an air inlet grille and extension tubes.

Flue Kit Accessories

A wide range of accessories are available, including various flue kits (vertical roof, horizontal wall, open flue), terminals, elbows (90°, 45°), extension pipes, weather collars, wall brackets, and expanders. Each accessory has a unique UIN for ordering.

Flue Resistances

Information is provided on permissible flue lengths and the equivalent length of elbows. Tables detail maximum permissible equivalent flue lengths for concentric and open flue systems, and the equivalent length of elbows (45° and 90°).

Examples are given for calculating flue resistances and lengths for horizontal and vertical installations, demonstrating how to ensure compliance with maximum permissible flue runs.

Multiline Cascade

The Multiline Cascade system is available for installations up to 600kW, using starter and extension packs. It allows Independent Heat boilers installed as open flue to connect via a common flue header, simplifying design for flue specialists. The system is designed to work efficiently with Independent Heat boilers and is compatible with standard or low frame and header kits.

Products: Includes end cap, siphon/condensate trap, collector pipe, elbow, expander, flue extension tube, and air intake grill.

Operation: System configurations are provided for Natural Gas and Propane, detailing the number of boilers and maximum system capacity (up to 600kW).

Plume Kit

The Plume Kit is available for Independent Heat boilers up to 150kW, allowing relocation of the flue terminal up to 10 meters. It includes a standard appliance connector, horizontal flue kit, special rain collar, 1m external plume kit, and terminal. It offers neat solutions for installations where terminal relocation is necessary.

Products: Turret elbow, flue terminal with rain cowl, 1-meter extension tube, 90-degree elbow, flue terminal end, external wall plate, internal wall plate, and wall bracket.

Packaged Options: Kits are available for 80/125 and 100/150 flue applications, with specific UINs for extension kits, elbows, and pairs of elbows.

Notes: Maximum permissible flue lengths are provided in tables for 80/125 and 100/150 DIA flues, detailing Y and X dimensions for various models and flue extensions.

Control Kits

  • Varican Module Master and Slave Kits: Enable cascade control from Independent Heat boiler controls.
  • Extension Module Kit: Capable of managing 2 mixing circuits; multiple modules can be used.
  • Opentherm Room Control Kit: Provides timed control of central heating via Opentherm.
  • Room Sensor Kit: Used with the Extension Module Kit for central heating control.
  • Tank Sensor Kit: Provides DHW temperature control and can be used with the Extension Module Kit.
  • Outside Sensor Kit: Provides weather compensation directly or with the Extension Module Kit.
  • Header Flow Tank Immersion Sensor Kit: Ensures the boiler provides the correct temperature to water in the header via an immersed sensor.
  • Header Flow Tank Strap On Sensor Kit: Ensures the boiler provides the correct temperature to water in the header via an external sensor.
  • Safety Interlock Kit: Provides boiler shut down via an external signal.

System Layout

A typical system boiler layout is illustrated for an Independent Heat Frame and Header Kit with a Plate Heat Exchanger. The schematic shows the interconnection of boilers, pumps, heat exchangers, valves, and other components. A detailed legend explains the symbols used for various parts such as isolation valves, pressure relief valves, auto air vents, and heat exchangers.

Note: This schematic is an illustration for discussion and reference only. It may not accurately describe the actual required arrangement for correct system operation, and additional components may be necessary. It should not be used as a basis for procurement, production, or installation.
