Ideal Halo Combi RF / Ideal Halo Combi Wi-Fi User Guide
Introduction
Welcome to your new Ideal Halo control. This thermostat helps you manage your heating temperature and schedule.
The Halo is a battery-powered, wireless control that communicates with the Smart Interface via the Zigbee protocol. This guide applies to both the Halo Combi RF (non-connected) and Halo Combi Wi-Fi (internet-connected) models.
For the Wi-Fi model, you can download the Ideal Halo app from Google Play or the Apple App Store. For more information on app features, visit the app's Help section or idealheating.com.
Thermostat Display Overview
The central display shows:
- Date and Time: e.g., Sat, 17 Nov, 9:33pm
- Target Temperature: The desired temperature, e.g., 21.0°C, with an indicator for when the next scheduled change occurs (e.g., until 10:00pm).
- Current Room Temperature: The actual temperature in your home, e.g., 19.5°C.
- Flame Symbol (?): Indicates when the heating is active.
- Mode Indicator: Shows if the Halo is in Auto, Manual, or Off mode.
The temperature scale around the dial will be orange and red when the heating is on.
Controls:
- Left Hand Button (☰): Use to enter the main menu.
- Right Hand Button (⚙️): Shows the current mode (Auto, Manual, Off).
- Central Dial: Turn to adjust temperature or navigate menus. Push to select.
Note: If you have a Halo Combi RF, you can upgrade to internet control by downloading the Halo app and following the connection steps, which may involve a connection fee.
Main Features
Mode Selection
You can select one of three modes:
- Auto: Runs heating according to pre-set schedules and temperatures.
- Manual: Allows manual temperature control via the dial, without schedules.
- Off: Sets heating to a low temperature (default 5°C) for frost protection.
Switch between modes using the right-hand button, scroll through options with the dial, and push to select.
Plus Hours (Extend Heating)
If running in Auto mode, you can temporarily extend the current heating setting. Press the dial to bring up a pop-up menu. Use the dial to select how long you wish to extend the temperature (e.g., 2 or 3 hours) and push the dial or right-hand button to confirm.
The home screen will then display an override icon (⚙️) above the current temperature.
Top Tip: Use this feature if you want your heating to stay on longer than scheduled, for example, on a cold morning.
Override (Temporary Temperature Adjustment)
In Auto mode, you can temporarily adjust the target temperature by turning the dial. The new temperature will remain active until the next scheduled change.
The home screen will display an override icon (⚙️) above the current temperature.
Top Tip: Use this feature to boost heating to a higher temperature for a period, perhaps if you feel chilly or are staying up later than usual.
Schedules
Your Halo comes with a pre-set schedule:
- 6:00 – 8:00: 21°C
- 8:00 – 16:00: OFF
- 16:00 – 22:00: 21°C
- 22:00 – 6:00: OFF
You can alter this schedule via the "timed heating schedule" section in the main menu.
Top Tips:
- Use the "copy day" feature to easily apply a schedule from one day to others.
- Schedules help balance comfort and energy efficiency by matching heating to your lifestyle. Consider setting different schedules for weekdays and weekends.
To edit a day's schedule, navigate to it and press the dial or right-hand button when the day is highlighted. You can edit heating times and temperatures, or add new heating events (up to 6 per day). Push the dial or right-hand button to save changes.

Changing the Batteries
A red, empty battery symbol (?) indicates batteries need replacement.
Locate the battery symbol on the base of the unit. Use the finger grabs at the top and bottom to gently pull the Halo away from its rear housing.
Remove the old batteries and insert 4 new AA Alkaline batteries, ensuring correct orientation. Re-attach the Halo to the rear housing until it clicks into place.
The Halo will then synchronise with the Smart Interface. A progress indicator will show "Synchronisation to smart interface in progress, please wait".
Troubleshooting
-
Halo Not Communicating with Smart Interface
If a message like "Wireless connection to smart interface lost" appears, check:
- Halo battery level (?).
- Power indicator on the smart interface.
- Distance between Halo and smart interface. Ensure any Zigbee booster is on.
For persistent issues, contact Ideal customer support at 01482 498660.
Note: In case of signal loss, heating continues in Failsafe mode (reduced output). You can manually control the boiler via the Smart Interface's Override button, which temporarily disables Failsafe mode.
