1 Introduction
The control unit has been designed for use with rolling shutters and blinds. This product can control single-phase 230 Vac alternating current motors, with a maximum power of 500W, equipped with electric limit switches. It is pre-wired.
This control cabinet contains a radio receiver for remote control by transmitters (CLARUS and B.RO) and for managing wireless climatic sensors KAIROS (light, wind, rain, and temperature), KAIROS DUO (light and wind), and AXEM (wind and inclination), all with radio frequency transmission at 433.92 MHz.
The control unit has been made in a reduced size to be installed inside the housings of rolling shutters or externally (depending on orientation).
MicroCap 16 can control a motor with a maximum authorized opening time of 2.5 minutes. The relays are activated by an "OPEN" or "CLOSE" command from the transmitter and are deactivated by pressing any key during movement. For example, if the shutter/blind is stopped by a limit switch, the control unit remains in the shutter opening state until it reaches 2.5 minutes. During this time interval, two "CLOSE" commands will be necessary to close the shutter (as it will have to pass through the STOP state).
2 Installation
For outdoor installation, it is essential to respect the orientation of the control unit. The correct installation is with the power and motor cables exiting from the bottom, as shown in the box.
Correct Installation: Diagram shows the control unit box with power and motor cables exiting downwards.
Incorrect Installation: Diagram shows the control unit box with cables exiting upwards, marked with a red cross.
3 Configuration and Electrical Connections
Wiring Diagram:
- Module Radio
- Relay 1
- Relay 2
- Buzzer
- Learning Button
Connections to motor wires:
- Open / Black wire
- Close / Brown wire
- Common / Blue wire
- GND / Yellow and Green wire
Attention: The open/close functions depend on the motor orientation. If an opening command corresponds to the shutter closing, it will be necessary to invert the brown (close) and black (open) wires.
4 Transmitter Learning
4.1 Transmitter Learning via the Control Unit Button
The control unit can be controlled by all remote controls from the B.RO 2/4WN, B.RO WALL, and CLARUS series.
Learning Process:
- Press and release the learning button on the board; the control unit emits 3 beeps.
- Press a button on the transmitter to be memorized. The control unit automatically memorizes all buttons and emits a long beep.
- Release the remote control button; the control unit emits 4 beeps.
If no signal is transmitted within 15 seconds, the control unit automatically exits learning mode (4 beeps).
Note: For CLARUS series, buttons on the right and left are not present.
4.2 Learning with a Memorized Transmitter
Attention: Do not use the following procedure in the presence of multiple active control units, as memory opening would occur for all devices in which the transmitter is memorized. In this case, disconnect the power from unaffected control units.
- Press and release the hidden button of a B.RO transmitter or transmit the menu option "M" of an already memorized CLARUS transmitter (*); the control unit emits 3 beeps.
(*) For CLARUS transmitter menu functions, refer to the product instructions.
5 Climatic Sensors
5.1 Climatic Sensor Learning
- Press and release the learning button on the board; the control unit emits 3 beeps.
- Press the button on the sensor; the control unit emits a long beep.
- Release the sensor button; the control unit emits 4 beeps.
If no signal is transmitted within 15 seconds, the control unit automatically exits learning mode (4 beeps).
Once memorized, it is possible to test the transmission by pressing the button on the sensor. The control unit emits an audible signal until the button is released.
NOTE: The control unit allows learning only one radio sensor. Memorizing a second sensor automatically deletes the first one memorized.
5.2 Motor Direction Check During Alarm
This procedure is necessary to verify correct motor wiring, so that during an alarm the automation closes.
- Using a transmitter, move the shutter/blind approximately halfway and stop it.
- On the KAIROS sensor used, set the wind trimmer to minimum (TEST) and rotate the sensor blades at a constant speed for a few seconds. On the AXEM sensor used, shake the shutter until the sensor intervenes.
- The control unit in alarm will command the shutter/blind to re-close.
If the shutter/blind moves to open, disconnect power to the control unit, invert the motor wires (black and brown), and repeat the test. If the shutter/blind moves to close, wait for complete closure. Press and release the sensor learning button. Follow the sensor instructions for adjustment.
5.3 Deleting a Climatic Sensor
- Press and release the learning button on the board; the control unit emits 3 beeps.
- Press the button of the already memorized sensor; the control unit emits two long beeps.
- Release the sensor button; the control unit emits 4 beeps.
If no signal is transmitted within 15 seconds, the control unit automatically exits learning mode (4 beeps).
5.4 AXEM Sensor Behavior
AXEM sensor alarms are deactivated during the control unit's entire working time, plus an additional 10 seconds. To cancel the waiting time and activate the sensor immediately, press the AXEM device's learning button.
5.5 Light Sensor
The control unit is designed to open the shutter/blind upon the transition from Night to Day, and to close the shutter/blind upon the transition from Day to Night. Furthermore, reopening for light has been integrated, at the end of any alarms (wind or disconnection).
It is possible at any time to disable the light sensor functionalities and thus prevent the automation from moving up or down automatically based on light variations. To disable the light sensor, proceed as follows:
- Press and hold a button on an already learned transmitter (for at least 8 seconds). The control unit emits 2 beeps to indicate sensor deactivation or 3 beeps to indicate sensor reactivation.
- Release the transmitter button.
5.6 Control Unit Behavior During Alarms (Wind, Rain, Snow, Disconnection)
The presence of an alarm, in addition to instantly closing the shutter/blind, will lock the operation of the remote controls for:
- 2 minutes after the cessation of a rain alarm. The alarm condition is signaled by 3 beeps upon receiving a user command.
- 12 minutes after the cessation of a wind alarm. The alarm condition is signaled by 2 beeps upon receiving a user command.
- 30 minutes after the cessation of a snow alarm. The alarm condition is signaled by 5 beeps upon receiving a user command.
Snow detection (snow alarm) occurs differently depending on the type of sensor used:
- Mains-powered sensor (KAIROS): presence of rain with temperatures below 4°C (sensor equipped with heating).
- Solar-powered sensor (KAIROS SA): detection of temperature only below 2°C, regardless of rain presence (sensor not equipped with heating).
- AXEM sensor: shutter inclination greater than 2° compared to the memorized position.
If radio communication between the sensor and the control unit is absent for more than 4 minutes, the control unit will completely close the shutter and remain in the disconnection alarm state until the sensor reconnects. The alarm condition is indicated by 4 beeps upon receiving a user command.
During an alarm state, radio learning is possible, but movements are not possible until the device exits the alarm state. The control unit signals the alarm state upon receiving a user command.
6 Reset
- Press and hold the learning button. After 7 seconds, the device emits a continuous beep.
- Release the learning button; the control unit emits 5 beeps.
All transmitters have been erased, and settings have been restored to factory defaults.
