The Reservation Discount requires advance booking from the au Unlimited Data Overseas application prior to international departure. Additional charges apply for voice calls and international SMS, as well as for au/UQ mobile/povo1.0 usage.
Benefits for Eligible Plan Subscribers
Subscribers of eligible plans may receive a discount of up to 18,000 yen/month on their au Unlimited Data Overseas usage fees. Conditions apply; please check the au website for details. Discounts may be prorated if the basic plan fee is prorated. Usage fees are billed in the month of service commencement, with discounts applied accordingly.
Usage Examples
Example 1: Hawaii (3 nights, 5 days) with advance booking
Flight: Day 1, 14:00 (local time)
Using smartphone at destination: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, Day 4 (14:00 local time), Day 5
Reservation Discount: 800 yen x 3 days = 2,400 yen
Example 2: Europe Tour (England & France, 5 nights, 7 days) with advance booking
Flight: Day 1, 18:00 (local time)
Using smartphone at destination: Day 1, Day 2, Day 3 (Travel to France), Day 4, Day 5, Day 6 (18:00 local time), Day 7 (Depart from France)
Reservation Discount: 1,000 yen x 5 days = 5,000 yen
Important Notes
- Usage with au Unlimited Data Overseas is included in data usage calculations for automatic discounts on plans like Unlimited Data Plan, Toku-Toku Plan 2, and Toku-Toku Plan.
- Service covers email, internet use, and tethering from au/UQ mobile/povo1.0 devices.
- If you are using au and not subscribed to Data Charge, au Unlimited Data Overseas will not apply; Kaigai Double-Teigaku will be charged instead.
- If you do not wish to use au Unlimited Data Overseas while using au/UQ mobile, you must apply for the "Option Rejecting au Unlimited Data Overseas." In this case, Kaigai Double-Teigaku will apply.
- Your line may be temporarily suspended for high overseas data communication charges.
- Partner operators, countries, and regions may change or become unavailable due to telecommunication conditions at your destination.
- Service may be inaccessible in covered areas due to terrain or location.
- Communication speed may be restricted for high data usage within a 24-hour period.
- Reissuing an eSIM after starting au Unlimited Data Overseas will disable data communication for the service, regardless of remaining time. Restarting service requires additional fees.
Setup Guide: 3 Simple Steps
- Download the "au Unlimited Data Overseas" app: Search for it on the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play™ (Android™).
- Book in advance before departure: Use the app to select your country/region, start date/time, and duration. Changes/cancellations are free up to 1 hour before service start.
- Enable data roaming on your smartphone: After booking, enable "Mobile Data" and "Data Roaming" in your smartphone's settings.

Making Calls and Sending SMS Overseas
- Making Calls: Dial using the country code, followed by the phone number (omit the leading "0"). Voice call charges vary by country/region, and receiving calls also incurs charges.
- Sending SMS: Send SMS just like in Japan. Charges are 100 yen per outgoing SMS (up to 70 full-width characters); incoming SMS are free.
