Section 1: Warnings, Cautions, and Notices

Read this manual thoroughly before operating or servicing this unit. Safety advisories are provided as required. Personal safety and proper operation depend on strict observance of these precautions.

Advisory Types:

  • WARNING: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury.
  • CAUTION: Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in minor or moderate injury, or alert against unsafe practices.
  • NOTICE: Indicates a situation that could result in equipment or property-damage only accidents.

Important Environmental Concerns

Scientific research indicates that certain man-made chemicals can affect the earth's stratospheric ozone layer. Refrigerants containing Chlorine, Fluorine, Carbon (CFCs), and Hydrogen, Chlorine, Fluorine, Carbon (HCFCs) are of particular concern. Trane advocates responsible handling of all refrigerants, including industry replacements like HCFCs and HFCs.

Important Responsible Refrigerant Practices

Trane emphasizes responsible refrigerant practices for environmental, customer, and industry well-being. Technicians handling refrigerants must be certified according to local rules. In the USA, the Federal Clean Air Act (Section 608) mandates requirements for handling, reclaiming, recovering, and recycling refrigerants and related equipment. Additional state or municipal requirements may also apply. Always know and follow applicable laws.

Section 2: Proper Field Wiring and Grounding

WARNING: Failure to follow code could result in death or serious injury. All field wiring MUST be performed by qualified personnel. Improperly installed and grounded field wiring poses FIRE and ELECTROCUTION hazards. Follow NEC and local/state/national electrical codes for installation and grounding.

Section 3: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Required

WARNING: Failure to wear proper PPE could result in death or serious injury. Technicians must follow precautions in this manual, on equipment tags, stickers, and labels, and in the instructions below:

  • Before installing/servicing, wear all required PPE (e.g., cut-resistant gloves/sleeves, butyl gloves, safety glasses, hard hat/bump cap, fall protection, electrical PPE, arc flash clothing). Refer to appropriate Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and OSHA guidelines for proper PPE.
  • When working with hazardous chemicals, refer to SDS and OSHA/GHS guidelines for exposure levels, respiratory protection, and handling instructions.
  • If there is a risk of energized electrical contact, arc, or flash, wear PPE according to OSHA, NFPA 70E, or country-specific arc flash protection requirements PRIOR to servicing.
  • NEVER perform switching, disconnecting, or voltage testing WITHOUT PROPER ELECTRICAL PPE AND ARC FLASH CLOTHING. Ensure electrical meters and equipment are properly rated for intended voltage.

Section 4: Follow EHS Policies

WARNING: Failure to follow instructions could result in death or serious injury.

  • All Trane personnel must follow company Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies for work like hot work, electrical, fall protection, lockout/tagout, and refrigerant handling. Where local regulations are more stringent, they supersede Trane policies.
  • Non-Trane personnel should always follow local regulations.

Revision History

  • Model number updates in "Used With" information.
  • Updated Table 1 and Table 2 with new data.

General Information

The high static kit is used when the required CFM is not delivered with the standard motor and sheaves due to high static pressure parameters.

Inspection

  1. Inspect the shipping carton and contents for concealed damage before storage or use. Report any damage immediately and file a claim with the transportation company. Replace damaged parts with authorized parts only.
  2. Compare the order number on the shipping label with accessory identification information on ordering and shipping documents to verify the correct accessory was received.

Installation

WARNING: Hazardous Voltage w/Capacitors! Failure to disconnect power and discharge capacitors before servicing could result in death or serious injury. Disconnect all electric power, including remote disconnects, and discharge all motor start/run capacitors before servicing. Follow proper lockout/tagout procedures to ensure power cannot be inadvertently energized. Verify capacitor discharge with a CAT III or IV voltmeter rated per NFPA 70E.

Refer to Figure 1 when reading these instructions.

Figure 1: Belt Adjustment Mechanism

Figure 1 illustrates the motor mounting plate assembly, showing the location of the bolt used for belt adjustment. It indicates the general arrangement of the motor and fan sheaves. A label on the motor mounting plate provides belt tightening instructions.

NOTICE: Equipment Damage! Proper fan belt adjustment is crucial for optimal unit operation. Over- or under-tightening can lead to belt slippage, excessive wear, bearing damage, sheave misalignment, and potential failure of fan motor mounts.

  1. Confirm power to the unit has been disconnected.
  2. Loosen the locknut and tension adjustment bolt on the motor plate assembly and remove the belt. Refer to Figure 1. A belt tightening instruction label is glued to the motor mounting plate.
  3. Remove the existing motor sheave (for G/ECC180, G/ECC210) and fan sheave (for ECC300). For G/ECC240, remove both motor and fan sheaves.
  4. Install the replacement motor sheave (for G/ECC180, G/ECC210) and fan sheave (for ECC300). For G/ECC240, install the replacement motor and fan sheaves.
  5. Check the alignment between the fan and motor sheaves using a straight edge. Adjust as necessary. Torque the fan sheave set screw to 126 to 165 inch-pounds (14.2 to 18.6 N-m).
  6. Adjust the motor sheave to the proper turns open for the required RPM to produce the desired airflow. Refer to Table 1 or Table 2 for sheave data.
  7. Adjust the tension of the fan belt. The correct operating tension for a V-belt fan drive is the lowest tension at which the belt will not slip under peak load conditions. Tighten the locknut sufficiently to ensure the motor plate assembly maintains the desired belt tension.
  8. Note: New V-belts tend to stretch after initial operation; check belt tension periodically.

WARNING: Live Electrical Components! Failure to follow electrical safety precautions when exposed to live components could result in death or serious injury. When working with live electrical components, use a qualified licensed electrician or trained individual.

  1. Being careful not to touch any electrical or moving parts, close the unit disconnect switch and check the unit supply fan for minimum vibration.
  2. Open and lock the disconnect switch in the OFF position.
  3. Replace all panels.
  4. Close the unit disconnect switch.
