General Warnings & Precautions:

  • Do not use this product if your dog is prone to aggressive behavior. Consult a veterinarian or certified trainer if unsure.
  • Risk of electric shock: Use the fence transmitter indoors in a dry location only.
  • Risk of explosion: Do not replace batteries with an incorrect type. Avoid short-circuiting, mixing old/new batteries, disposing in fire, or exposing to water. Dispose of used batteries properly.
  • This Premier Pet™ Wireless Fence is not a solid barrier; it acts as a deterrent via static correction. Reinforce training regularly. Radio Systems Corporation cannot guarantee it will keep all pets within the boundary, as pet tolerance to static correction varies. Do not rely solely on this system if your pet poses a danger to others or itself.
  • This product is not a toy; keep away from children.

How It Works

The Premier Pet™ Wireless Fence is designed for pets over 8 lb. It transmits a radio signal up to 90 ft. in all directions. Boundary flags are used to visually define the pet area during training. Your pet wears a receiver collar with contact points that touch their neck. When the pet reaches the boundary zone, the collar emits a warning beep, followed by a safe static correction, to remind them to stay within the pet area.

Key Definitions

  • Fence Transmitter: Transmits the radio signal and is the center of the pet area.
  • Pet Area: The distance from the fence transmitter where your pet can roam freely.
  • Boundary Zone: A 2 to 3 ft. wide area outside the pet area where the receiver collar begins to beep and then delivers static correction. The correction starts in the boundary zone and continues beyond it. The collar has a safety time-out feature that stops correction after 30 seconds if the pet remains outside the area.
  • Receiver Collar: Receives the radio signal from the fence transmitter.
  • Correction Level Button: Adjusts the static correction level.
  • Receiver Indicator Light: Shows the correction level setting and acts as a low battery indicator.
  • Contact Points: Deliver the static correction when the pet enters the boundary zone.
  • Power Jack: Where the power adapter plugs into the fence transmitter.
  • Boundary Switch/Range: Adjusts the size of the pet area.
  • Power Light: Indicates when the fence transmitter is on.
  • Boundary Control Dial: Adjusts the distance from the fence transmitter to the boundary zone.

Diagram Note: In many neighborhoods, nearby property lines may limit the Pet Area size. The maximum range is 90 ft. (approx. 45 average steps).

Set Up the Transmitter

The fence transmitter should be located at the exact center of the pet area. You may need to move it several times to find the optimal location.

Placement Guidelines:

  • Place at least 2 ft. above the floor, on the ground floor of your home.
  • Ensure a dry, well-ventilated, protected area.
  • Keep within temperatures of -10°F (-23°C) to 140°F (40°C).
  • Place on a non-metal table or hard surface for ventilation, or mount on a wall using the included mounting template.
  • Position at least 3 ft. away from large metal objects that can reduce the pet area size and shape. Placing the transmitter inside a metal building or shed can significantly reduce the maximum range.
  • Avoid placing anything on top of the transmitter or covering ventilation holes.
  • Do not place the transmitter in a closet or any other confined, unventilated area.
  • Do not place the transmitter on or near a metal surface.

To Maximize Pet Area:

Set the boundary switch/range to High (+) and the boundary control dial to 8. Plug the power adapter into the transmitter's power jack and a standard outlet. Turn the fence transmitter on.

Prepare the Receiver Collar

Contact Points:

Your receiver collar comes with short contact points. For pets with long or thick hair, use the enclosed long contact points. Tighten contact points using the test light tool, about one-half turn beyond finger tight. Check tightness weekly.

Battery Installation and Removal:

CAUTION: Do not install the battery while the receiver collar is on your pet.

  • The collar uses a replaceable 6-volt lithium coin cell battery (GAC11-16351).
  • To insert: Align the battery's arrow symbol with the receiver collar's triangle symbol. Use the test light tool to turn the battery clockwise until the arrow aligns with the lock symbol.
  • To remove: Turn the battery counter-clockwise using the test light tool. Do not attempt to cut or pry open the battery.
  • When removing an old battery, discharge all power by holding the static level button down until the indicator light is no longer illuminated.
  • Replace with a new battery.

Replacement batteries (GAC11-16351) are available at many retailers. Contact Customer Care or visit premierpet.com to find a retailer.

Set the Static Correction Level

Follow these steps to set the static correction level:

  1. Remove the clear plastic cover using the edge of the test light tool to expose the correction level button.
  2. With the battery installed, press and release the correction level button. The receiver LED indicator light will flash.
  3. The number of flashes indicates the static correction level (1-6).
  4. To increase the level, press and release the button again within 5 seconds of the previous flashes.
  5. Replace the cover to protect the button.

Correction levels increase from 1 to 6. Level 6 cycles back to Level 1. Refer to the table below to select the appropriate level for your pet.

The receiver indicator light also serves as a low battery indicator, flashing every 4-5 seconds when replacement is needed.

Static Correction Level Table:

Static Correction Level Indicator Light Response Receiver Collar Function
1 1 Flash No Static Correction, Tone-only
2 2 Flashes Low Static Correction
3 3 Flashes Medium-Low Static Correction
4 4 Flashes Medium Static Correction
5 5 Flashes Medium-High Static Correction
6 6 Flashes High Static Correction
(Flashes once every 4 to 5 seconds) Indicates Low Battery

Over Correction Protection:

This feature limits static correction duration to 30 seconds if your pet enters or remains outside the boundary zone. The collar will not provide correction if the pet returns to the pet area.

Adjust the Pet Area to Desired Size

Ensure the entire pet area is within your property boundaries. Start determining the boundary zone at the shortest distance from the fence transmitter.

For boundary zones less than 45 ft:

Set the boundary switch/range to Low (-). Ensure the receiver collar battery is installed, the static correction level is set to 2 or greater, and the test light contacts touch the contact points.

NOTE: If a neighbor has an in-ground containment system, refer to the Troubleshooting section.

Test Light Instructions:

  1. Set correction level to 2 or above.
  2. Hold test light contacts to the receiver collar's contact points.
  3. Walk towards the boundary zone with the receiver collar at your pet's neck level until the test light flashes. Save the test light for future testing.

NOTE: If the test light does not flash, install a new battery and re-test. If it still fails, contact Customer Care.

To Maximize Pet Area:

Set the boundary switch/range to High (+) and the boundary control dial to 8. Plug in the power adapter and turn on the transmitter.

Two-Person Method:

Hold the receiver collar at your pet's neck height, with the logo facing away from the transmitter and contact points upwards. Walk to the edge of the desired pet area. Have a second person slowly turn the boundary control dial down from 8. Stop when the receiver collar beeps. Record your settings.

One-Person Method:

Measure the shortest distance from the desired boundary zone to the fence transmitter. Use the Transmitter Range Chart to set the boundary switch/range and boundary control dial. Hold the test light contacts to the points. Walk to the boundary zone with the collar at your pet's neck level until the collar beeps and the test light flashes. Adjust the boundary control dial as needed. Repeat until the collar beeps at the desired location. Record your settings.

Place the Boundary Flags

Boundary flags serve as visual reminders for your pet. The receiver collar activates within 2-3 ft. of the flags.

  1. Using the test light, with the static correction level set at 2 or greater, hold the receiver collar at your pet's neck height, logo side facing away from the transmitter.
  2. Walk towards the boundary zone until the collar beeps and the test light flashes.
  3. Place a boundary flag at this location.
  4. Walk back into the pet area until the beeping stops.
  5. Repeat this process around the boundary zone, placing flags approximately every 10 ft.

The boundary zone is 2-3 ft. wide.

Fit the Receiver Collar

Proper fit and placement are essential for effective training. Contact points must touch the pet's skin on the underside of the neck.

Steps for proper fit:

  1. Ensure the battery is not installed in the collar.
  2. Start with your pet standing comfortably.
  3. Place the collar on your pet with the Premier Pet™ logo facing your pet's chin.
  4. Center the contact points underneath your pet's neck, touching the skin. Use long contact points for pets with long or thick coats.
  5. The collar should fit snugly but allow one finger to fit between a contact point and your pet's neck.
  6. Allow your pet to wear the collar for several minutes, then recheck the fit. Recheck as your pet becomes more comfortable.
  7. Once satisfied, trim excess collar strap: Mark desired length, remove collar, cut excess, and seal the cut edge with a flame to prevent fraying.
  8. Insert the battery.

CAUTION: You may need to trim hair in the contact point area. Never shave the pet's neck, as this may lead to rash or infection. Do not overtighten the collar.

Re-Thread the Collar:

The Slide Buckle prevents the collar from loosening. Ensure the Ridges face up; the collar will slip if not properly threaded.

  • To loosen: Slide the strap through the Slide and Fasten Buckles and pull down.
  • To tighten: Slide the strap up through the Fasten Buckle and pull through the Slide Buckle.

Training Guide

Proper training is key to system success. Remove the collar after each session. Ensure the Premier Pet™ logo faces up.

Signs of pet stress: Pulling towards home, tucked ears/tail, lowered body, nervous movement, stiffening, lip-licking, yawning. If observed, slow the training schedule, add days, or increase play time.

Day 1:

Start with collar level 1 (tone-only). Use a leash and treats. Let the pet explore the area, cross the boundary to hear the tone, then call them back and reward. Aim for positive association with the pet area. Conduct 2-3 sessions of 10-15 minutes each.

Days 2-4:

Repeat Day 1 process with collar set to level 2 (mild static correction). Observe pet's response (looking around, ear flicking, scratching collar). If no response, check collar fit. If fit is correct, move to the next level and repeat. Conduct 2-3 sessions of 10-15 minutes each.

Days 5-8:

Continue from Day 4, adding staged distractions (family member crossing boundary, toy outside boundary, another pet outside). Start with low-value temptations and gradually increase. Keep the pet on a leash throughout this phase. Never coax the pet to leave the area.

Days 9-30:

Once the pet consistently avoids the boundary, proceed to unleashed supervision. Keep a leash handy. Play with your pet initially. If the pet stays within the boundary, engage in another task while supervising. If the pet escapes, remove the collar and lead them back. Gradually increase supervision time from 15 minutes to over an hour. When the pet is trustworthy, allow them out alone. Remove boundary flags every 4 days until all are gone. Save flags for future use.

Wireless - To - Go:

The system is portable. Follow setup procedures wherever needed. Re-establish the pet area and mark with flags. Note: Metal buildings or vehicles may reduce the maximum pet area size. Remove the receiver collar battery before turning off the fence transmitter. Use a 50-watt or higher inverter for DC power sources.

Troubleshooting

  • Receiver collar not beeping when setting up boundary zone: The tone may be hard to hear in noisy environments. Use the test light to determine the boundary zone location. Ensure the transmitter is set up correctly and the battery is installed. Stand within 5-10 ft. of the transmitter when installing a new battery.
  • Receiver collar not beeping or administering static correction: Check that the transmitter is plugged in, turned on, and controls are set correctly. Ensure the receiver battery is installed properly. Stand within 5-10 ft. of the transmitter when replacing the battery.
  • Receiver collar beeping everywhere: Check transmitter power and settings. Bring the collar within 5-10 ft. of the transmitter to reset.
  • Receiver collar beeping inside the house: It is recommended to remove the collar when indoors. Ensure the transmitter is on and set up correctly. Verify the entire house is within the pet area; relocate the transmitter if necessary. Remove the collar before turning off the transmitter if relocating.
  • Pet receiving static correction in a metal crate: The metal crate may block the transmitter signal, causing the collar to activate. Remove the collar from your pet when placing them in a metal crate.
  • Boundary zone seems to fluctuate: This can be normal due to electromagnetic fields and surrounding electronic noise, causing fluctuations up to 5%. The activation point is influenced by the pet's speed and orientation entering the zone.
  • Receiver collar activates in the middle of the yard: This can occur if a large metal object is between the collar and transmitter, if the collar orientation changes, or due to electronic noise. Consider relocating the transmitter and resetting the pet area if issues persist.
  • Pet not responding to static correction: Ensure the static correction level is set at 2 or above. Test with the test light. Check collar fit. Trim pet's fur where contact points touch the neck or switch to longer contact points. Increase static correction level. Repeat training steps.
  • Pet reacts strongly and becomes fearful: Lower the static correction level. Ensure you are in control during initial corrections (use a leash and separate collar). Lead the pet into the area and praise them. If fear persists, suspend training and restart the next day, ending sessions positively.
  • Power light is not on: Ensure the transmitter's On/Off switch is on and the power adapter is plugged into a working outlet.
  • Boundary control dial turned down, collar no longer beeps/corrects: You may have activated the power-fail mode by turning the dial too quickly. Reset the boundary zone by turning the dial to 8, then slowly turning it down while standing within 5-10 ft. of the transmitter.
  • Neighbor's In-Ground Containment System interferes: The neighbor's signal may interfere. Reduce the pet area size or move the transmitter away from their system. Adjust the pet area so the collar activates at least 5 ft. beyond the reduced boundary setting.
  • Receiver collar injured pet's neck: This is likely due to pressure ulcers caused by improper fit or prolonged wear, not electrical burns. Follow safety information and fitting instructions carefully. Ensure proper fit and monitor the skin condition.
