SmartGen HPD300 Reverse Power Protection Relay
Multifunctional Protection Module
User Manual
1. Overview
The HPD300 reverse power protection relay is widely utilized in marine genset and land genset applications. It is designed to prevent situations where power flows backward to the generator from the system, which can occur when the generator loses excitation or experiences other failures, effectively turning the generator into an electric motor. The HPD300 provides protection against such over-power situations.

1) Output And Expand Relays
All outputs are relay contact output type. To expand relays, add a freewheel diode to both ends of the relay's coils (for DC current) or a resistance-capacitance return circuit (for AC current) to prevent disturbance to the controller or other equipment.
2) AC Input
Current input must be connected to an external current transformer. The current transformer's secondary side current must be 5A. Ensure the phases of the current transformer and input voltage are correct; otherwise, the current and active power readings may be inaccurate.
Note: When there is load current, the transformer's secondary side must not be open-circuited.
3) Withstand Voltage Test
CAUTION! If a high voltage test is required when the relay is installed in a control panel, disconnect all terminal connections of the relay to prevent high voltage from entering the relay and causing damage.
