Whirlpool Dryer Quick Start Guide

Operating Instructions & Safety Warnings

WARNING: Fire Hazard
No washer can completely remove oil. Do not dry anything that has ever had any type of oil on it (including cooking oils). Items containing foam, rubber, or plastic must be dried on a clothesline or by using an Air Cycle. Failure to follow these instructions can result in death or fire.

WARNING: Explosion Hazard
Keep flammable materials and vapors, such as gasoline, away from dryer. Do not dry anything that has ever had anything flammable on it (even after washing). Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, explosion, or fire.

WARNING: General Safety
To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, read the IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS, located in your appliance’s Owner’s Manual, before operating this appliance.

Cycle Guide

This dryer features a user-friendly interface to help you select the best cycle for your load. The controls guide you through two easy steps: First, identify the items in your load. Second, determine your preferred drying method and select the appropriate cycle. Modifiers are preset but can be adjusted.

For maximum energy savings and enhanced fabric care, use Automatic cycles. These cycles measure drying air temperature and moisture levels to automatically shut off the dryer when the load reaches the selected dryness level. Performance may vary with service voltage less than 240V.

Control Panel Overview & Button Descriptions

The control panel features a sensitive surface that responds to a light touch. Use your fingertip, not your fingernail, to ensure selections are registered.

Button Descriptions:

  1. POWER/CANCEL: Touch to turn the dryer on and off. Touch to stop/cancel a cycle at any time.
  2. START/PAUSE: Touch and hold until LED counts down “3-2-1” and the dryer starts; then let go to start a cycle, or touch once while a cycle is in process to pause it.
  3. MODIFIERS: Use to select available modifiers for your dryer. Not all cycles and options are available on all models. See the online “Cycle Guide” for details.

Temperature Settings (Temp): When using Timed Dry/Quick Cycle, select a dry temperature based on the load type. Use the warmest setting acceptable for the garments. Follow garment label instructions. Automatic Cycles may offer up to 4 temperature adjustments.

Drying Levels: Adjust the Dryness on Automatic Cycles (except Sanitize) as desired. This setting is for Automatic Cycles only.

More Time/Less Time: Touch to increase or decrease the length of Timed Dry/Quick Dry Cycles.

  1. OPTIONS: Use to select available options for your dryer. Not all cycles and options are available on all models.

Wrinkle Shield™ Option: Adds up to 150 minutes of periodic tumbling to help reduce wrinkling if the load cannot be removed immediately. Opening the dryer door during this option will pause the dryer.

Cycle Signal: Adjusts the volume of the end-of-cycle signal (low, medium, high, or off). This volume also applies to the Damp Dry Signal. Touch and hold for 3 seconds to turn sounds on/off.

Damp Dry Signal: Select to turn on/off. A series of beeps will sound when the load is damp but not completely dry, allowing removal of items needing less drying. Default for Bulky Items cycles as a reminder to reposition loads.

  1. Remote Start (3 sec for WI-FI): Control the smart dryer remotely via the Whirlpool® app to send cycles and start loads.
  2. LED DISPLAY: Shows default settings for selected cycles and estimated time remaining (for Automatic Cycles) or actual time remaining (for Timed Dry cycles).

Cycle Status Indicators

These indicators show the progress of a cycle. Not all indicators are available on all models.

  • Wet: The load is still wet or the cycle just started.
  • Cool Down: The dryer has finished drying with heat and is tumbling the load without heat to cool it down and reduce wrinkling.
  • Check Vent: Available for Automatic Cycles only. Indicates airflow status. Illuminates if a blocked vent or low airflow is detected during the sensing phase. Stays on for the entire cycle if the issue is not resolved. Refer to online “Troubleshooting” for solutions. The light clears upon cycle completion, touching Power, or opening the door. Note: Dryer continues to operate, but poor airflow impacts performance.
  • End: Indicates the selected cycle has ended and the load may be removed. If Wrinkle Shield™ is active, tumbling may continue.
  • Control Lock: Illuminates when the controls are locked.

Specific Options & Features

Control Lock

Use this option to lock the controls and prevent accidental changes. Touch and hold Control Lock or Damp Dry Signal (depending on model) for 3 seconds to lock/unlock. The LED display will show “3-2-1” during the countdown. Locked controls display “Loc.” The function may be enabled after a power failure; unlock by touching and holding the same buttons for at least 3 seconds.

EcoBoost™ Option

Defaults to ON for the Regular/Normal cycle. Allows increased energy savings by using a slightly lower heat level. Increases drying times by approximately 40 minutes, shown on the LED display. Touch ECOBOOST to turn off for optimal time.
