This document provides instructions for the De'Longhi ECAM23X series of bean-to-cup espresso and cappuccino machines. It covers the operation, controls, and maintenance of your appliance.
Control Panel and Functions
Control Panel Overview (B1)
The control panel features various buttons and indicators for operating the machine:
- Espresso Button (B2): For brewing a single espresso.
- 2x Espresso Button (B3): For brewing two espressos simultaneously.
- Coffee Button (B4): For brewing a standard cup of coffee.
- Function Selection Dial (B5): Used to select different coffee types or strengths.
- Grinding Adjustment Dial (B6): Adjusts the fineness of the coffee grind, from Min (coarser) to Max (finer).
- Power Button (B7): Turns the machine on or off.
- Indicator Lights/Display (B8): Shows machine status, warnings, or selected functions.
- Long Coffee Button (B9): For brewing a larger coffee.
- Doppio + Button (B9): For brewing a double espresso with enhanced aroma.
- Warning Symbol: Indicates a required action or error.
Included Accessories (C)
The machine comes with the following accessories:
- C1: Water filter holder.
- C2: Measuring spoon for ground coffee.
- C3: De'Longhi Descaler solution.
- C4: Milk container with an integrated milk frothing system.

Key components of the De'Longhi ECAM23X series machine:
- A1: Water tank.
- A2: Coffee bean hopper for whole beans.
- A3: Drip tray to collect liquid.
- A4: Funnel for adding pre-ground coffee.
- A5: Knob for adjusting the grinder's fineness.
- A6: The main control panel.
- A7: Steam wand or hot water spout.
- A8: Coffee dispensing spout where coffee flows into the cup.
- A9: Grid for the drip tray.
- A10: Power cord for connecting to electricity.
- A11: Drip tray assembly.

Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for setting up and using your De'Longhi coffee machine:
Step 1: Power Connection
Connect the power cord (A10) to the machine and then plug it into a suitable wall socket.
Step 2: Water Tank Preparation
Remove the water tank (A1), fill it with fresh water, and then reinsert it securely into the machine.
Step 3: Drip Tray and Grounds Container
Remove the drip tray (A3) and the used coffee grounds container (A12). Empty and clean them, then reinsert them into the machine.
Step 4: Initial Setup & Controls
Familiarize yourself with the control panel (A6). The machine is now ready for initial setup or operation.
Step 5: Milk Frothing Preparation
For milk-based drinks, insert the steam wand (A7) into a container filled with milk.
Step 6: Steam/Hot Water Dispensing
Turn the steam knob to dispense steam or hot water. This is used for frothing milk or dispensing hot water.
Step 7: Power On/Off
Press the Power Button (B7) to turn the appliance on or off. The machine may perform a rinse cycle upon startup or shutdown.
Step 8: Cycle Indicator
Observe the cycle indicator, which may show progress for rinsing, heating, or descaling operations.
Step 9: Water Tank Fill Level
Ensure the water tank (A1) contains at least 0.5 litres of fresh, cold water.
Step 10: Water Filter Insertion
Insert the water filter (A18) into its designated holder (A19).
Step 11: Filter Holder Placement
Insert the water filter holder (with filter) into the water tank (A1).
Step 12: Water Tank Reinsertion
Place the water tank (A1) back into its housing within the machine.
Step 13: Drip Tray and Grounds Container Maintenance
Remove the drip tray (A3) and used coffee grounds container (A12). Empty and clean them thoroughly. Reinsert them correctly.
Step 14: Coffee Loading
Add whole coffee beans to the bean hopper (A2) or pre-ground coffee to the dedicated funnel (A4).
Step 15: Cup Placement
Position a suitable cup or mug directly under the coffee dispensing spout (A8).
Step 16: Coffee Selection and Brewing
Select your desired coffee type (e.g., Espresso, 2x Espresso, Coffee) using the control panel buttons (B2, B3, B4) and press the start button to begin brewing.
Step 17: Coffee Dispensing
The machine dispenses the brewed coffee through the spout (A8) into your cup.
Step 18: Cappuccino Preparation
Prepare a cappuccino by using the steam wand (A7) to froth milk directly into a cup, then adding it to the espresso.
Step 19: Milk Frothing Technique
Hold the steam wand (A7) in the milk to create a creamy froth for cappuccinos and other milk-based beverages.
Step 20: Steam/Hot Water Selection
Use the appropriate control or lever to select between steam for frothing and hot water dispensing.
Step 21: Steam Wand Cleaning
After each use, clean the steam wand (A7) by dispensing a small amount of steam or hot water, and wiping it with a damp cloth.
Step 22: Milk Container Attachment
Connect the milk container (C4) to the steam wand assembly (A7) for automatic milk frothing.
Step 23: Milk Container Placement
Ensure the milk container (C4) is correctly attached to the machine for the frothing process.
Step 24: Dispensing Area Check
Inspect the area around the coffee dispensing spout (A8) for proper cup placement and coffee flow.
Step 25: Drip Tray and Grounds Container Removal
Periodically remove the drip tray (A3) and used coffee grounds container (A12) for emptying and cleaning.
Step 26: Brewing Unit Cleaning
Remove the brewing unit (A13) from the machine (as shown in 26A and 26B) for regular cleaning as per maintenance instructions.
Step 27: Label/Indicator Check
Check any labels or indicators on the machine for important information or operational guidance.
Step 28: Component Access
Certain components may need to be moved or accessed by tilting or sliding them, as depicted in the diagram.
Step 29: Milk System Connection
Connect the milk container (C4) to the steam wand assembly (A7) by aligning and pushing them together.
Step 30: Milk Frothing Adjustment
Adjust the milk frothing settings, indicated as 'A' and 'B', on the milk container or machine for desired froth texture.
Step 31: Water Tank Capacity
The water tank (A1) has a maximum capacity of 1.8 litres.
