1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing this bean to cup espresso and cappuccino machine. Take a few minutes to read this Instruction for Use. This will avoid all risks and damage to the appliance.

  • 1.1 Letters in brackets: The letters in brackets refer to the legend in the description of the appliance on pages 2-3.
  • 1.2 Troubleshooting and repairs: In the event of problems, first try and resolve them by reading the information given in sections '21. Displayed messages ⚠️' and '22. Troubleshooting ?'. If this does not resolve the problem or you require further information, consult customer services by calling the number given on the annexed 'Customer Service' sheet. If your country is not listed, call the number given in the guarantee. For repairs, contact De'Longhi customer services only.

3. Setting Up the Appliance ?

Please note: Possible traces of coffee in the mill are from pre-sale tests. The first time you use the appliance, rinse all removable accessories (milk container, travel mug, coffee pot, water tank) with hot water. Washing the milk container in a dishwasher is recommended. Customise water hardness as soon as possible (see '18. Setting water hardness ?').

  1. Connect the power cord (C6) to the socket (A8) at the back of the appliance and connect to the mains power supply. Ensure the main switch (A7) is pressed.
  2. Press the flag corresponding to the desired language.
  3. Remove the water tank (A20) and fill to the MAX line with fresh water.
  4. Replace the tank and confirm by pressing 'Next'.
  5. Fill the beans container (A6) and confirm by pressing 'Next'.
  6. Insert the descaling spout (C7) on the milk container connector (A13) and place a container with a minimum capacity of 100 ml under the coffee spouts (A14) and descaling spout.
  7. Press 'OK' to fill the water circuit; the appliance delivers water from the spouts.
  8. At the end of delivery, the appliance performs a rinse cycle, delivering hot water from the coffee spouts (A14). This heats the boiler and internal circuits.

Please note: For satisfactory results, make 4-5 cappuccinos the first time you use the appliance. The water circuit may be noisy initially; noise reduces as the circuit fills. After first use, store the descaling spout (C7) safely for maintenance.

4. Turning the Machine On ?

Please note: Ensure the main switch (A7) is pressed. Each time the appliance is turned on, it performs an automatic preheat and rinse cycle. The appliance is ready for use after this cycle.

  1. To turn the appliance on, press the ? button (A9).
  2. When at temperature, it performs a rinse cycle delivering hot water from the coffee spouts (A14).

5. Turning the Appliance Off

When turned off after use, it performs an automatic rinse cycle. Press the ? button (A9) to turn off (standby). If not using for some time, unplug from the mains socket and release the main switch (A7).

7. Making Coffee ?

7.1 Making coffee using coffee beans

Important: Do not use green, caramelised, or candied beans. Place 1 or 2 cups under spouts (A14), lowering them close to the cup for creamier coffee. Select desired coffee.

7.2 Your coffee at a touch

Press the beverage image on the homepage (B) (e.g., Espresso). Appliance prepares coffee. Display shows progress and phase. Message 'Your beverage is ready!' appears upon completion.

7.3 Customising the beverages

To make beverages with customised parameters: Press (+) (B3) below the beverage image. Adjust Quantity and Aroma. Press 'Start'. Appliance prepares coffee. Press 'Save' to store new settings (only in selected profile) or 'Cancel'. Press 'OK' to return to homepage.

7.4 Making coffee using pre-ground coffee

Important: Never add pre-ground coffee when the machine is off. Use only one level measure (C2). Only one cup can be made at a time. Cannot make DOPPIO+. To make LONG coffee, add measure halfway through preparation when requested. Press (+) (B3) below beverage image. Select 'pre-ground coffee'. Lift funnel lid (A3), ensure funnel is clear, add measure (C2). Press 'OK'. Select coffee quantity and press 'Start'. Appliance prepares coffee. Display shows progress.

7.5 Bean Adapt Technology & Espresso SOUL

Optimises brewing based on coffee beans (grinding fineness to brewing). Download Coffee Link App for details. Saved settings can be used for 'Espresso SOUL' beverage. Follow '7.2 Your coffee at a touch' for espresso. Customise quantities as per '7.3 Customising the beverages'.

7.6 General indications for making coffee-based beverages

  • Delivery can be interrupted by pressing 'Stop' or 'Cancel'.
  • Press 'Extra' after delivery to increase quantity, then 'Stop'.
  • Alarm messages may appear (e.g., 'FILL TANK WITH FRESH WATER'). See '21. Displayed messages ?'.
  • If coffee is weak/cold, check '6.4 Adjust mill ?' and '22. Troubleshooting ?'.
  • 'Energy Saving' mode may cause a delay before the first coffee.

7.7 Tips for a hotter coffee

Perform a rinse cycle ('6.1 Rinsing ?'). Warm cups with hot water function ('13. Delivering hot water ?'). Increase coffee temperature ('6.5 Coffee temperature ?').

8. Coffee Pot ?

A light, balanced beverage with fine froth, ideal for sharing. Optional accessory (1 litre, Type: DLSC021, EAN: 8004399333642). To make: Press coffee pot image on homepage. Select taste and number of cups. Press 'Next'. Fill water tank (A20) and beans container (A6). Press 'Next'. Place coffee pot (C8) under spouts. Press 'OK'. Appliance delivers beverage. Display shows progress. Press 'Cancel' or 'Stop' to interrupt. Press 'Save' to store settings or 'Cancel'. Press 'OK' to return to homepage.

Safety Warning: Allow appliance to cool for 5 minutes after making a pot of coffee.

8.1 Cleaning the coffee pot

After each use, clean with hot water and mild washing-up liquid. Rinse thoroughly.

9. Over Ice (ECAM61X.7Y only)

To make: Press 'Over Ice' image on homepage. Select customisation parameters. Place ice cubes (approx. 6) in glass. Place glass under spouts (A14). Press 'OK'. Appliance prepares coffee. Display shows progress. Press 'Cancel' or 'Stop' to interrupt. Press 'Extra' to increase quantity. Press 'Save' to store settings or 'Cancel'. Press 'OK' to return to homepage.

10. Making Milk-Based Beverages ?

Please note: Always clean milk container (D) as per '10.5 Cleaning the milk container after use' and '16.10 Cleaning the milk container (D) ?' for optimal froth.

10.1 Filling and attaching the milk container

  1. Lift lid (D1).
  2. Fill milk container (D10) to MAX level with milk. Ensure milk intake tube (D9) is correctly inserted on lid.
  3. Put lid back on. Attach milk container (D) to nozzles (A13) and push fully. Machine beeps if enabled.

Froth quality depends on milk type, brand, and ingredients.

10.2 Adjusting the amount of froth

Turn froth adjustment dial (D3) to adjust froth for cappuccinos and milk-based coffees. Dial positions: No froth (Hot Milk/Caffè Latte), Min. froth (Cortado/Flat White), Max. froth (Cappuccino variations, Espresso Macchiato, Latte Macchiato, Latte Caldo).

10.3 Your milk-based beverage at a touch

Press the desired milk-based beverage image on homepage (B). Appliance prepares coffee. Display shows progress. Message 'Your beverage is ready!' appears. Press 'Extra' to increase coffee quantity, then 'Stop'.

10.4 Customising the beverages

To customise milk-based beverages: Press (+) (B3) below beverage image. Adjust Quantity, Aroma, Coffee type. Press 'Start'. Appliance prepares coffee. Press 'Save' to store settings or 'Cancel'. Press 'OK' to return to homepage.

Note: Settings saved are only in the selected profile.

10.5 Cleaning the milk container after use

A request to clean the milk frother appears on display (B5). To clean: Leave milk container (D) in machine. Place cup under frothed milk spout (D7). Turn froth dial (D3) to 'Clean' (?). Hot water/steam dispensed. Cleaning stops automatically. Turn dial back to froth setting. Remove milk container and refrigerate.

Note: Clean milk container after the last milk beverage. Press 'Cancel' for subsequent beverages. If not cleaned, symbol (B8) appears. Container can be refrigerated. Wait for cleaning to end. Can interrupt by pressing 'Stop'.

11. Mug to Go (ECAM61X.7Y only)

For customised beverages to take away. Choose ingredients (coffee, milk, water) and order. To make: Remove travel mug lid (C9). Raise spouts (A14), place mug container underneath. Press 'Mug to Go' image on homepage. If saved, appliance proceeds. If first time: Select up to 2 ingredients, press 'Next'. Select preferences, press 'Next'. Press 'OK' to start. Press 'Stop' when quantity reached. Press 'Save' to store recipe or 'Cancel'. Press 'OK' to return to homepage.

Quantities table provided for Coffee, Milk, Water.

Note: Heat mug with hot water. Use only for machine beverages. Clean milk container after use. Travel mug height max 14 cm. Do not use for baby milk. Use contents within 2 hours.

11.1 Cleaning the travel mug after use

Rinse container and lid with hot water (40°C). Remove dirt with sponge. Immerse components in hot water (40°C) with mild detergent for 30 mins, rinse. Clean container with mild detergent, rinse with hot water. Do not use abrasive materials. Dry components. Wash lid weekly in dishwasher; mug is not dishwasher safe.

12. Tea Function

To make tea: Place teabag in cup under spout (A14). Press 'Tea' function image on homepage (B). Adjust Quantity and Temperature. Press 'Start'. Appliance prepares. Press 'Save' to store settings or 'Cancel'. Press 'OK' to return to homepage.

13. Delivering Hot Water ?

13.1 Your beverage at a touch

Press 'Hot Water' image on homepage (B). Appliance prepares. Display shows progress. Message 'Your beverage is ready!' upon completion. Press 'Extra' to increase water, then 'Stop'.

13.2 Customising the beverages

Press (+) (B3) below 'Hot Water'. Adjust Quantity. Press 'Start'. Appliance prepares. Press 'Save' to store settings or 'Cancel'. Press 'OK' to return to homepage.

14. Guided Beverage Customisation (MY) ?

Customise all beverages with the MY symbol. Ensure profile (B2) is active. Press (+) (B3) below beverage image, then the MY symbol. Press 'OK' to follow guided procedure. Select preference, press 'Next'. Press 'OK' to begin delivery. Adjust quantity via vertical bar. Press 'Stop' when quantity reached. Press 'Save' to store or 'Cancel'. Press 'OK' to return to homepage.

Note: Settings saved only in selected profile. Double versions also customised. Can customise via Coffee Link App. Press 'Cancel' to exit. 'Reset' option available.

15. Selecting Your Personal Profile ?

Memorise 3 or 5 profiles, each with an icon. Customised settings saved per profile. Order of beverages based on selection frequency. To select: Press profile on homepage (B2). Select required profile.

Note: Profile colour affects settings bars. Rename profile via Coffee Link App. Customise icon via '6.7 Edit profile ?'.

16. Cleaning ?

16.1 Cleaning the machine

Regularly clean: internal circuit, grounds container (A25), drip tray (A24) & grille (A22), water tank (A20), spouts (A14), pre-ground funnel (A3), infuser (A11), milk container (D). Important: Do not use solvents, abrasive detergents, or alcohol. No chemical products required. Dishwasher safe components: milk container (D), grounds container (A25), drip tray (A24), drip tray grille (A22), coffee spouts (A16/A17). Do not use metal objects that could scratch surfaces.

16.2 Cleaning the internal circuit

If unused for 3-4 days, perform 2-3 rinses ('6.1 Rinsing ?'). Note: Grounds container may contain water after cleaning.

16.3 Cleaning the coffee grounds container

Empty and clean when 'Empty grounds container' message appears. Machine cannot be used until cleaned. Message appears 72 hours after first coffee if not full. Machine must not be turned off with main switch (A7) for correct timing.

Important! Danger of burns: Cup tray (A21) becomes hot after milk beverages. Wait to cool.

To clean (machine on): Remove drip tray (A24) and grounds container (A25). Empty and clean thoroughly. Replace drip tray with grille and grounds container.

Important: Empty grounds container when removing drip tray, even if partially full, to prevent clogging.

16.4 Cleaning the drip tray and drip tray grille

Drip tray (A24) has a level indicator (A23). Empty before indicator shows. Overflow can damage appliance/surfaces. To remove: Remove drip tray & grounds container (A25). Check/empty condensate tray. Remove cup tray (A21) & drip tray grille (A22). Empty drip tray & grounds container, wash all parts. Replace drip tray assembly.

Important: Empty grounds container when removing drip tray.

16.5 Cleaning the inside of the machine

Danger of electric shock! Turn off and unplug machine before cleaning internal parts. Never immerse machine in water. Check inside monthly. Remove coffee deposits with brush (C5) and sponge. Remove residues with vacuum cleaner.

16.6 Cleaning the water tank

Clean water tank (A20) monthly or when replacing filter. Remove tank, remove filter (if present), rinse. Clean tank with damp cloth and mild detergent, rinse. Replace filter (if applicable). Fill tank with fresh water to MAX. Replace tank. For models with softener filter, deliver 100ml hot water to reactivate filter.

Note: Clean tank if unused for 3-4 days.

16.7 Cleaning the coffee spouts

Clean spouts (A16/A17) when requested (monthly). To clean later, press 'Cancel'. Message reappears on next startup.

Remove central outlet cover (A15), pull spouts downwards. Separate spouts. Rinse with running water (dishwasher recommended). Wash seat with sponge. Reassemble spouts to central outlet, ensuring 'INSERT' is visible. Replace cover. Press 'OK' to confirm cleaning.

16.8 Cleaning the pre-ground coffee funnel

Clean funnel (A3) monthly with damp cloth. Open lid (A2). Extract funnel, clean with brush (C5). Clean with hot water/detergent or dishwasher if needed. Replace funnel. Close lid.

16.9 Cleaning the infuser

Clean infuser (A11) at least monthly. Important: Infuser cannot be removed when machine is on. Ensure machine is off. Remove water tank (A20). Open infuser door (A10). Press release buttons and pull infuser outwards. Soak infuser in water for 5 mins, rinse. Important: Rinse only with water, no detergent/dishwasher. Clean infuser without detergent. Use brush (C5) to remove residues. Replace infuser by sliding onto support, push PUSH symbol until it clicks. If difficult, adjust size with levers. Ensure buttons snap out. Close infuser door. Replace water tank.

16.10 Cleaning the milk container (D)

Clean milk container each time milk is prepared. Lift lid (D1). Remove spout (D7), extension (D8), intake tube (D9). Turn froth dial (D3) to 'Insert' position, pull. Turn and remove connector (D5). Components are dishwasher safe (top basket). If no dishwasher, wash by hand as per note (immerse in hot water for 30 mins). Ensure no milk residues in dial seat/connector hole. Rinse. Check tube/spout for blockages. Reassemble lid. Attach lid.

17. Descaling ?

Important: Read descaler pack instructions. Use only De'Longhi descaler. Incorrect use may void warranty. Descaler can damage surfaces.

To descale: Message appears on display (B5). Press 'OK' for immediate descaling or 'Cancel' to descale later (B7 symbol appears). Access menu: settings (B6) > 'Descale' > 'Next' > 'OK'. Insert hot water spout (C7). Remove/empty drip tray (A24) & grounds container (A25). Remove water tank (A20) & filter (if present). Pour descaler into tank (level A, one 100ml packet), add 1 litre water (level B). Replace tank. Place 2L container under spouts. Press 'OK' to start.

Danger of scalding: Hot water containing acid flows out. Avoid contact. Programme starts, liquid dispensed from spouts. Rinses remove scale residues. Descaling stops after ~30 mins.

Rinsing: Empty descaler container. Rinse water tank, fill with fresh water. Press 'Next'. Place empty container under spouts, press 'OK' to start rinsing. Hot water delivered. Empty container when water tank is empty. Replace filter if removed. Fill tank with fresh water. Press 'Next'. Place empty container under spouts, press 'OK' for another rinse. Rinse starts. Empty container when water tank is empty. Empty/replace drip tray & grounds container. Extract/fill water tank. Press 'Next'. Descaling complete. Press 'OK'.

Note: Repeat cycle if not completed correctly. Grounds container may contain water. Ensure tank is filled to MAX for third rinse if requested.

18. Setting Water Hardness ?

18.1 Measuring water hardness

Use 'Total Hardness Test' paper (C1). Immerse paper in water for 1 sec. Shake lightly. 1-4 red squares form, indicating level.

18.2 Setting water hardness

Settings menu (B6) > 'Water hardness'. Measure hardness as above. Press dot corresponding to measured hardness level (table provided). Machine reprograms. Press '←' to return to homepage.

19. Water Softener Filter ?

Some models have filter (C7). If not, purchase from De'Longhi. Follow instructions for correct use.

19.1 Installing the filter

Settings menu (B6) > 'Water filter' > 'OK'. Remove filter from packaging, set date indicator. Note: Filter lasts ~2 months (or 3 weeks if unused). Press 'Next'. Activate filter by running tap water through it until it exits side openings for >1 min. Press 'Next'. Fill water tank (A20), immerse filter for 10 secs, sloping to release air. Press 'Next'. Position container under descaling spout, press 'OK' to activate filter. Appliance delivers hot water. Press 'OK' to return to homepage. Filter is active.

19.2 Replacing the filter

Replace when message appears. Press 'OK' for immediate replacement or 'Cancel' for later (B9 symbol appears). Settings menu (B6) > 'Replace water filter' > 'Next' > 'OK'. Extract tank (A20) & exhausted filter. Press 'Next'. Follow previous section's steps from point (4).

Note: Replace after 2 months or 3 weeks of disuse, even if message not displayed.

19.3 Removing the filter

To use without filter: Settings menu (B6) > 'Remove water filter' > 'Next'. Extract tank (A20) & filter. Replace tank. Press 'OK' to confirm removal. Press 'OK' to return to homepage.

Note: Replace after 2 months or 3 weeks of disuse, even if message not displayed.
