Thank you for purchasing this Edifier product. The R980T multimedia speaker system is designed to provide excellent sound performance for your home entertainment, personal computer, and mini home theater. Please read this manual carefully to obtain the best results from your new system.

Important Safety Instructions

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not expose this apparatus to rain or moisture.

The lightning flash with arrowhead inside the triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of un-insulated dangerous voltage within the product's enclosure that may be of a sufficient magnitude to constitute a risk of electric shock to persons. [High Voltage Warning]

To prevent the risk of electric shock, do not remove cover (or back). No user-serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified service personnel only.

The exclamation point inside the triangle is intended to alert the user to the presence of important operating and maintenance (servicing) instructions in the literature accompanying the product. [Important Information]

  7. Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
  8. Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
  9. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other. A grounding type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong. The wide blade or the third prong are provided for your safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.
  10. Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched, particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.
  11. Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
  12. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time.
  13. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.
  14. The MAINS plug or an appliance coupler is used as the disconnect device, the disconnect device shall remain readily operable.

Use only with the cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table specified by the manufacturer, or sold with the apparatus. When a cart is used, use caution when moving the cart/apparatus combination to avoid injury from tip-over.

Setting Up

This product is designed to be used on bookshelves or desktops. Please ensure there is at least 1.5 meters (approx. 5 feet) of space between the two speakers. For optimal listening experience, maintain a distance of 1 meter (approx. 3 feet) or more from the speakers.

Connections:

  • Connect the main speaker and the secondary speaker using the provided speaker connecting cable. Ensure the connection is made with the correct polarity.
  • You can replace or extend the original speaker cable. Note that the quality of speaker cables can affect overall sound quality; high-quality Oxygen-Free Copper (OFC) cables are recommended.

Powering On and Listening:

  1. Turn on the system by pressing the Power switch. Note: To avoid hearing popping sounds when powering on your speaker system, always turn on your audio source first.
  2. Slowly turn up the master volume to a comfortable level and enjoy your music.
  3. Recommendation: It is advisable to set the volume of your audio device to 50-90% for optimal sound quality in most cases.
  4. Recommendation: You may need to adjust the bass control to compensate for the sound source and achieve better enjoyment.

Troubleshooting

  • Please check if the power is connected and the wall outlet is switched on.
  • Turn the system off, then on again, and reconnect to the audio source.
  • Please check if the master volume is turned to minimum.
  • Please check if the audio input cable is connected correctly.
  • Please check if there is a signal from the audio source.
