General Warnings and Safety Instructions
This instruction manual contains general caution information for the installation and use of Pool and SPA pumps. Components like the filtration system, pumps, and heaters must be positioned to prevent children from accessing the pool.
⚠️ RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK
This appliance must be installed by qualified electrical personnel in accordance with National Electrical Code and all applicable local codes and ordinances. Hazardous voltage can cause shock, burn, and death. Do not use extension cords. The pump must be connected to an individual circuit breaker and a residual current device (RCD) or Ground Fault Circuit Interrupt (GCFI) with a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30 mA. Electrical grounding must be connected before electrical power. Bonding is required using at least #8 AWG (#6 AWG for Canada) solid copper conductor from external bonding lug to all metal parts of the pool, spa, hot tub, metal piping, and conduit within 1.5 m (5 ft) of inside walls. Never open the drive motor enclosure as it contains a capacitor bank with a mains supply voltage charge. Use caution with high flow rates and limit pump performance as needed. Switch off pump power before servicing. Never change the filter control valve position while the pump is running.
⚠️ COMPRESS AIR HAZARDOUS
The system, including the pre-filter, can become pressurized. Pressurized air can cause the lid to separate, resulting in serious injury or death. Ensure the filter tank lid and pre-filter cover are properly secured. Place the pre-filter/filter air relief valve in the open position to relieve pressure before servicing.
⚠️ STAND CLEAR OF PUMP DURING START-UP
Circulation systems operate under high pressure. Air entering the system can become pressurized. Ensure filter tank lid and pre-filter cover are secured to prevent separation. Open the air relief valve to bleed off pressure before removing the lid for cleaning.
⚠️ HYPERTHERMIA
SPA water temperature exceeding 38°C (104°F) can be injurious. Measure water temperature before entering. Hyperthermia symptoms include drowsiness, lethargy, and increased internal body temperature.
⚠️ SUCTION ENTRAPMENT HAZARD
This pump produces high suction, which can trap adults or children underwater near the main drain. The Virginia Graeme Baker (VGB) Pool and Spa Safety Act mandates specific requirements for commercial pools and spas constructed after December 19, 2008, including multiple main drains, safety vacuum release systems (SVRS), suction-limiting vent systems, or automatic pump shut-off systems. For pools constructed before this date with a single submerged suction outlet, specific covers, SVRS, vent systems, or automatic shut-off systems are required. There are five types of suction entrapment: Body Entrapment, Limb Entrapment, Hair Entrapment, Mechanical Entrapment, and Evisceration. To reduce risk, install two functional suction outlets per pump, spaced at least 1 meter apart, to prevent entrapment. Regularly check suction outlet covers for damage and replace if necessary. A vacuum release or vent system is recommended.

5. Start Up
Warning: Never let the pump run dry, as this can damage the mechanical seal and cause leaks or flooding.
- Verify the pump shaft turns freely.
- Check that the mains voltage, current, and frequency correspond with the name plate.
- Fill the pre-filter with water before starting the motor.
- STOP the pump and CLOSE GATE VALVES in suction and discharge pipes before removing the pre-filter lid.
- Always STOP the pump before releasing pressure from the pump and piping system.
- Never tighten or loosen screws while the pump is in operation.
- Ensure the suction pipe and pool suction inlet are free from obstruction.
Warning: Tighten/untighten the pump Lid by hand only.
Before start-up, check pump alignment and ensure pipes are properly fitted and tightened, exerting no pressure or tension on the pump's connections.
- Clear all piping of debris and verify it has passed a pressure test.
- Check filter and equipment installation, verifying all clamps and connections are secure.
- Open shut-off valves on suction and discharge lines.
- Open the filter pressure relief valve to release system pressure.
- If the pump is below the water level, opening the relief valve will fill the pump.
- If the pump is above the water level, remove the pre-filter lid and fill with water.
- Check and lubricate the Lid O-ring and seat area. Ensure the sealing area is clean to prevent air leaks.
- Close/tighten the Lid to create an airtight seal.
- Turn on power and wait for the pump to prime. Priming time for 3m (10ft) should be at least 7 minutes. Priming depends on suction lift and pipe length. If the pump does not prime within the specified time, stop the motor and determine the cause.
- If the pump does not prime within 10 minutes, re-check all steps. Stop the pump, check for suction leaks, and repeat steps (I) through (VIII).
6. Routine Maintenance
The pump mechanical seal requires no lubrication or service. The only routine maintenance is inspecting and cleaning the pre-filter basket to prevent debris from choking water flow.
- Turn off the pump, close gate valves, and release system pressure before proceeding.
- Loosen the suction inlet hose or piping.
- Turn the ring-lock by hand to open and release the transparent Lid.
- Remove and clean the pre-filter basket, ensuring all holes are clear. Flush with water. Reinsert the basket correctly, aligning with the guideline on the edge. Incorrect placement can cause air leaks.
- Clean and inspect the lid O-ring. Replace if damaged. Reinstall on the transparent lid.
- Clean the ring groove on the pre-filter body and replace the Lid. Tighten by hand only to prevent sticking.
- Reconnect the suction hose or pipe. Water should flood the pump body.
- Restart the pump and check for correct priming.

7. Winterizing
If air temperature drops below 0°C (35°F), water in the system can freeze and cause damage, which is not covered by warranty.
Prevention of damage from freezing:
- Shut off electrical power to the pump at the house circuit breaker.
- Drain water from the pump case using the two drain plugs.
- Store the plugs in the pump basket.
- Cover the motor to protect it from rain, snow, and ice.
- If possible, store the pump in a dry location.
- Do not wrap the motor in plastic, as this can cause condensation and rust.
