Cat 5 HDMI Extender System
1384TD and 1384RD Transmitter / Receiver Wallplates
1.0 Introduction
Thank you for purchasing this Cat 5 HDMI extender system from Audio Authority. The EDP-11 transmits HDMI signals digitally over Cat 5 cables. Using Cat 5e or Cat 6 cables allows installers to use less expensive wire over longer distances and terminate the cables in the field. The EDP-11 can achieve distances from 115 to 195 feet depending on the type of cable used, and the resolution and audio bit rate of the source and sink.
Note: The EDP-11 (Models 1384TD and 1384RD) Transmitter and Receiver only operate together and do not function with any other Cat 5 system components, such as the 1381T or 1381R.
Audio Authority offers an extensive line of audio and video switchers, converters, extenders, and distribution amps available for purchase online at www.audioauthority.com or through authorized dealers.

3.0 Installation
Before connecting the EDP-11 Cat 5 extender system, verify that the display device on the receiving end can support the output resolution and signal format by connecting it directly to the source device via a short, known good, HDMI cable. The panel drawings below show the Cat 5 signal output/input connections and power connection.
Transmitter (Model 1384TD)
Front View: Features an HDMI port labeled 'HDMI TRANSMITTER' for connecting the source device. Includes a connection point to 'CONNECT AC ADAPTER TO POWER OUTLET'.
Rear View: Shows two RJ-45 connectors labeled 'OUT 1' and 'OUT 2' for Cat 5e/6 cable outputs. Includes Audio Authority branding, website (www.audioauthority.com), and phone number (800-322-8346).
Receiver (Model 1384RD)
Front View: Features an HDMI port labeled 'HDMI RECEIVER' for connecting the display device (sink).
Rear View: Shows two RJ-45 connectors labeled 'IN 1' and 'IN 2' for Cat 5e/6 cable inputs. Includes Audio Authority branding, website (www.audioauthority.com), and phone number (800-322-8346).
3.1 Terminating Cat 5e/6 UTP Cables
Cut two Cat 5e/6 cables exactly the same length (within four inches). Terminate the cables using the standard EIA 568B pairing shown below. Correct pairing is vital and should always be checked with a network cable tester. The correct pairing is straight through, pin-to-pin.
Cat 5e/6 UTP Cable Termination (EIA 568B Standard):
The diagram illustrates the pinout for terminating Cat 5e/6 cables for both the 1384TD Transmitter end and the 1384RD Receiver end. The pairing is straight-through, pin-to-pin, as follows:
Pin | 1384TD End / 1384RD End (Identical) | |
---|---|---|
1 | WHITE/ORANGE | |
2 | ORANGE | |
3 | WHITE/GREEN | |
4 | BLUE | |
5 | WHITE/BLUE | |
6 | GREEN | |
7 | WHITE/BROWN | |
8 | BROWN |
3.3 Connecting the Hardware
- Connect the HDMI source device's output to the HDMI INPUT connector of the 1384TD Transmitter, using a short, high-quality, HDMI cable.
- Connect a correctly terminated and tested Cat 5 cable to the Cat 5 Output 1 connector of the Transmitter. Connect a second Cat 5 cable to the Cat 5 Output 2. Mark the cables at both ends so that you do not inadvertently swap them. Do not connect the AC adapter until the Cat 5 cables are correctly connected to both the transmitter and the receiver.
- At the remote location, connect the appropriate Cat 5 cables to the Cat 5 Input 1 and 2 connectors of the 1384RD Receiver. Be careful not to interchange the 1 and 2 cables.
- Connect the HDMI OUTPUT of the 1384RD to the HDMI input of the video display or other device, using the appropriate cable.
- Connect the supplied AC adapter first to the 1384TD and then to the AC outlet.
- Turn on the source device and video display. The source video signal should appear on the display. If not, consult the Troubleshooting Guide in this manual.
4.0 Troubleshooting
- Check all of the HDMI connections to see if any of the connectors have become loose.
- Make certain the 1384TD is connected to a live AC outlet and check the power indicators on both units.
- Use a network cable tester to make certain your Cat 5e/6 cable is terminated correctly and the RJ-45 connectors are securely attached to the cable at both ends. Check for cable defects or damage.
- Temporarily connect the display device directly to the source with the 1384TD HDMI connection cable, then test with the 1384RD connection cable. If an image is present under those circumstances, the display, the source, and the HDMI cables can be eliminated as the cause of the problem. Make sure the A/V receiver is compatible.
- If the above circumstances do not produce a picture, try a short, known good HDMI cable, and make sure the source is set up to output a resolution that the display can accept.

Replacement units are sent out at the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price, which is debited to the Customer's Credit Card at the time of shipment. Once the defective unit is received back at the factory, it will be evaluated under the conditions of this warranty. If found to be in-warranty, a full credit will be issued to the Customer's Credit Card. Return freight charges for the defective unit are the customer's responsibility.
