1.0 Introduction
Thank you for purchasing this HDMI® extension/distribution system from Audio Authority®. The HXE-11 Kit (1341T and 1341R) digitally transmits HDMI signals over a single RG-6 coax cable to achieve long distances while preserving high quality 1080p video with embedded multi-channel audio such as Dolby® TrueHD™™. The system can be used as a point-to-point extender, or additional 1341R receivers can be daisy chained to distribute source media to multiple video displays.
Audio Authority audio/video switchers, converters, and distribution amps can be purchased at www.audioauthority.com or through authorized dealers.

Note: Please retain the original packing material and invoice in case you need to return the unit. If you find any items are missing, contact Audio Authority immediately. Have the model number and invoice available for reference when you call.
3.0 System Design
Consider the following factors and basic precautions to ensure the best possible performance.
- Do not use soldered BNC connectors or adapters. RG-6 cables MUST be terminated with either crimp-on or compression type BNC connectors.
- Use high quality RG-6 coaxial cable. The HXE-11 can transmit HD video over a single coax cable using high quality RG-6 and terminating with good crimp-on BNC connectors. Low quality cable and RG-59 cable does not provide the bandwidth necessary for the HXE-11 system.
- Do not use HD-DVD players. The HDCP keys in the 1341T do not support Legacy HD-DVD players and will not handshake or pass signals.
- Source and TV connection cables. Use short, premium HDMI cables; low quality cables are often unreliable. Always use good strain relief methods or locking cables to prevent cables from becoming loose over time.
- Interference from nearby electrical devices can have an adverse effect on signal quality. For example, older computer monitors often emit very high electromagnetic fields that can interfere with the performance of nearby video equipment.
- Display devices. The perceived quality of the video image depends heavily upon the type and quality of the TVs or projectors used. High quality displays should be expected to produce a noticeably better image.
3.1 Applications
The 1341T and 1341R may be used in simple point-to-point applications or in multiple destination video distribution applications.
Point-to-point Extension Application
Diagram Description: Shows a SOURCE connected via an HDMI cable to a 1341T transmitter. The transmitter is connected via an RG-6 COAX CABLE to a 1341R receiver, which is then connected to an HDTV. A note indicates to "TERMINATE LAST LOOP OUT JACK".
Daisy Chain Distribution Application
Diagram Description: Shows a SOURCE connected via HDMI to a 1341T transmitter. The transmitter is connected via RG-6 cable to a 1341R receiver (labeled "RECEIVER 'LOOP OUT'"). This receiver is then connected via RG-6 cable to a second 1341R receiver, which is connected via RG-6 cable to a third 1341R receiver connected to an HDTV. A note states "AC POWER CONNECTIONS ARE NOT SHOWN". The diagram also indicates to "TERMINATE LAST LOOP OUT JACK".
4.0 Coaxial Cable Length and Fabrication
Use high quality RG-6. Audio Authority tests using Commscope F660BV Brightwire yielded excellent results; use equivalent cable or better in all installations. Maximum cable length depends on total bandwidth (video resolution plus audio). Use the table below as a guide, but it is recommended to test the actual cable length with the target source and TV before installation.
Cable | 1080p + lossless audio | 1080i + lossless audio | 720p + lossless audio |
---|---|---|---|
RG-6 | Up to 200 ft. | Up to 300 ft. | Up to 300 ft. |
- Use only crimp on or compression type BNC terminations.
- Do not solder BNC connectors.
- Do not use F-to-BNC or RCA to BNC adapters.
5.0 Installation
- Always use high quality RG-6 coaxial cable.
- Do not bend coaxial cables below the manufacturer's recommended radius.
- Do not route coax cable parallel to AC power lines.
- Always use a termination resistor plug (included) at the last (vacant) receiver pass through jack.
- Connect coaxial cables and HDMI cables first, then connect power supplies.
- Use good strain relief methods on HDMI cables to prevent loose connections, and power system for final testing.
Connection Diagrams Description:
Transmitter (1341T): Shows an HDMI INPUT port and a POWER port. A separate diagram shows a 5V DC input and an OUTPUT port labeled TX. Text labels indicate "CONNECT SOURCE" for the HDMI input and "CONNECT AC POWER ADAPTER" for the 5V DC input.
Receiver (1341R): Shows a POWER port and a 5V DC input. A separate diagram shows an INPUT port labeled TX and a PASS THROUGH port labeled HDMI OUTPUT. Text labels indicate "CONNECT AC POWER ADAPTER" for the 5V DC input and "CONNECT TV OR OTHER HDMI DEVICE" for the HDMI OUTPUT.
An arrow points from the PASS THROUGH port of the receiver to "CASCADE TO NEXT HDTV - OR - TERMINATE WITH INCLUDED RESISTOR PLUG".
6.0 Troubleshooting
- Poor image quality: Likely to be a result of source media. Some sources (e.g., cable and satellite) compress video output resulting in poor image quality. Connect the source directly to an identical display via a short HDMI® cable to compare image quality.
- Intermittent signal dropout: RG-6 and/or HDMI cable is longer than rated distance for source signal bandwidth. Reduce cable length, reduce resolution, and/or reduce audio format to decrease the bandwidth required.
- No surround sound (multi-channel audio): Adjust the source for the desired audio format, and make certain the destination device is able to receive it.
- No picture: Perform the verifications below.
- Check that the termination plug is correctly installed on the pass through jack on the last receiver in the chain.
- Note: Legacy HD-DVD players are no longer supported in current HDCP keys and do not function with the HXE-11 system.
- Use only high quality RG-6 cable with crimp or compression type BNC terminations. DO NOT use soldered BNC terminations or adapters.
- Use a cable tester to make certain coaxial cables are terminated correctly and the BNC connectors are securely attached to the cable at both ends. Check for cable defects or damage, such as pinched cable on tight corners.
- Check the HDMI cables at input and output connections to see if any of the connectors have become loose. Use good strain relief methods.
- Check the power indicators on all units. If any are off, check AC outlets.
- Connect the display device directly to the source using the HDMI cable from the 1341T end, then test with the 1341R connection cable. If an image is present under those circumstances then the display, the source, and the HDMI cables can be eliminated as the cause of the problem.
- If the above methods do not produce a picture, test using a short, known good HDMI cable, and set up the source to output a resolution that the display can accept. If this test is successful, connect the HXE-11 System again, making sure the source resolution is the same as the test.
