Kwik Performance K10166 Alternator and Power Steering Pump Bracket Installation Instructions

Overview

This document provides detailed instructions for installing the Kwik Performance K10166 Alternator and Power Steering Pump Bracket kit on Corvette LS engines. It covers kit contents, required additional parts, and a step-by-step assembly process.

Alternator Identification

Diagram shows two alternator types: 'Corvette only' with a 6.06" diameter, and 'Non-Corvette' with a 5.46" diameter. It also indicates dimensions for 'small' alternators (1.68") and 'large' alternators (2.19").

Installation Steps

Step 1: Attach Idler Pulley to Front Plate

Attach the idler pulley to the front plate. Ensure all fasteners are left finger tight until Step 5. Note that the three power steering pump spotfaces should face the engine. Use a 12mm bolt and flange nut.

Step 2: Mount Front Plate Assembly to Engine

Mount the front plate assembly to the engine. Use two M10x80mm bolts screwed into the cylinder head, along with two tubes (1" OD x 2 1/4" long). An M10x80mm bolt screws into the block, utilizing a tube (3/4" OD x 2-7/32" long).

Step 3: Mount Rear Plate to Engine

Mount the rear plate to the engine. Use two tubes (1" OD x 2" long) and two M10x80mm bolts screwed into the cylinder head.

Step 4: Mount Alternator

Mount the alternator using two M10x80mm bolts and two 10mm flange nuts.

Step 5: Torque Fasteners

Lift up on the front plate to take the weight off the bolts, then snug up all bolts. Torque specifications: 10mm bolts to 37 ft-lbs; 12mm bolts to 50 ft-lbs.

Step 6: Mount Power Steering Pump

Mount the power steering pump using 8mm bolts, torquing to 15 ft-lbs. Extra bolts are provided for various pumps. Note that some pulleys have windows for access to 8mm bolts, allowing the pulley and pump to be installed as an assembly after torquing the 10mm bolts. Kwik Performance pumps typically come with the pulley pre-installed and can be bolted on as is. 8mm nuts are used with some pumps.

Step 7: Install Belt

Refer to Sheet 1 for belt length suggestions.

With AC: Install belt in the rear 6 grooves of a 7-groove 4665 compressor, or in the middle 6 grooves of an 8-groove 4711 compressor.

For optimal performance and longevity, Kwik Performance suggests the shortest belt that can be reasonably installed.

Recommended Procedure:

1. When installing the serpentine belt, place the belt around all pulleys as shown in the diagram, except for the water pump pulley.
2. Check that the belt is in the correct grooves of the AC compressor.
3. Ensure the belt is seated fully in the grooves of each grooved pulley.
4. Retract the belt tensioner fully and slip the belt onto the water pump pulley.
5. Release the tensioner.
