Choosing the Right Installation Location
Room Dimensions
- Minimum 30 inches clearance from blade tip to nearest wall or obstruction.
- Minimum 7 feet clearance from bottom edge of blade to the floor.
Outlet Box
The outlet box must be secured to building structure or be fan-rated.
Ceiling Angle
- Standard Mounting: For flat ceilings. Use a standard downrod.
- Angled Mounting: For angled or vaulted ceilings. A longer downrod may be required (sold separately). If the ceiling angle is greater than 34°, an Angled Mounting Kit is also required (sold separately).
Hunter Pro Tip: To determine if you need an Angled Mounting Kit, fold the provided guide on the dotted line, place its edge against the wall, and slide towards the ceiling. If the guide touches the wall but not the ceiling, an angled mounting kit is needed.
Installation Steps
Installing the Ceiling Bracket
Remove any existing bracket. Use only the provided Hunter ceiling bracket.
⚠️ WARNING: Turn power OFF at the circuit breaker before proceeding.
Option 1: Machine Screws
Use machine screws (provided with outlet box) and washers to secure the bracket to an existing fan-rated outlet box (acceptable for fan support up to 70 lbs / 31.8 kg).
Option 2: Wood Screws
Use included wood screws and washers to secure the bracket to a support structure. Drill 9/64" pilot holes in the support structure.
Angled Mounting Tip: For angled ceilings, point the bracket opening toward the peak.
Installing the Downrod
Follow these steps for the pre-assembled downrod. For longer or shorter downrods, refer to the guide at the end of this manual.
- Step 1: Remove the pre-installed setscrew.
- Step 2: Pass all wires to one side of the horizontal bar in the downrod assembly. Hand-tighten the downrod (at least 4-5 full turns) until it stops. Trim wires to leave approximately 8 inches extending from the top of the downrod.
- Step 3: Tighten the setscrew securely with pliers. DO NOT HAND TIGHTEN.
Hunter Pro Tip: The ground wire attached to the downrod is approximately 8 inches.
⚠️ WARNING (FAN FALL HAZARD): To prevent serious injury or death: ALWAYS tighten the setscrew with pliers. DO NOT hand tighten. CHECK the setscrew tightness using pliers each time you change fan direction.
Hanging the Fan
- Slide the canopy over the downrod and wires.
- Place the downrod ball into the slot in the ceiling bracket.
NOTICE: To prevent damage to the fan, always lift holding either the fan housing or the downrod.
Progress Check: Your fan should now be hung, resembling the illustration.
Wiring the Fan
You will need 4 Wire Nuts (found in the [bag] bag).
For a Single Switch Setup:
- Connect the white (grounded) wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan.
- Connect the black (ungrounded) wire from the ceiling to the black AND blue wires from the fan.
- Connect the three grounding wires (green, green/yellow stripe, or bare copper) coming from the ceiling, downrod, and hanging bracket.
⚠️ WARNING: The ceiling fan must be grounded. If the ground wire for the installation site is not present, immediately STOP installation and consult a qualified electrician.
⚠️ WARNING: All wiring must be in accordance with national and local electrical codes ANSI/NFPA 70. If you are unfamiliar with wiring or in doubt, consult a qualified electrician.
Hunter Pro Tip: For extra wiring, turn wires upward and push them carefully back through the hanger bracket into the outlet box. Spread wires apart, with grounded wires on one side and ungrounded wires on the other.
For a Dual Switch Setup:
- Connect the white (grounded) wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan.
- Connect the black (ungrounded) wire from the ceiling to the black wire from the fan.
- Connect the second ungrounded (light) wire from the ceiling to the blue wire from the fan.
- Connect the three grounding wires (green, green/yellow stripe, or bare copper) coming from the ceiling, downrod, and hanging bracket.
Installing the Canopy
- Fit the canopy in place as shown.
- Lift the canopy into place so that the screw holes are aligned.
- Insert two canopy screws (found in the [bag] hardware bag).
Hunter Pro Tip: A magnetic screwdriver will give you more visibility when securing the canopy.
Installing the Blades
- Put the blade washers (found in the [bag] hardware bag) onto the blade screws (found in the [bag] hardware bag).
- Secure each blade to a blade arm using the blade screws. Repeat for all 4 blades.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The blade arms should be mounted with the ridge facing downward. Installing incorrectly could result in your fan not functioning.
- Lightly attach the blade arms to the motor with screws (found in the [X] hardware bag), then securely tighten after both screws are attached for each arm. Repeat for all 4 blade arms.
Assembling the Light Kit
- Partially install two light kit assembly screws (found in the [bag] hardware bag) halfway into the motor housing.
- Feed the 9-pin plug connector from the bottom of the motor housing through the center hole of the light kit assembly. Connect it to the plug connector in the switch housing area, matching colored markings.
- Align the keyhole slots in the top of the light kit assembly with the partially installed screws. Wrap the keyhole slots around the screws and twist counterclockwise.
- Insert the third screw (found in the [bag] hardware bag) and firmly tighten all three screws.
- Carefully push switch housing components into the switch housing. Install the switch housing plate using two short light kit assembly screws (found in the [bag] hardware bag).
⚠️ WARNING (FAN FALL HAZARD): Make sure all screws are tight to secure the light fixture.
Light Kit Installation
- Install a bulb into each socket. Replace with bulbs of the same wattage when necessary.
- Align the globe indentations with the globe retainer screw holes and carefully lower the globe into the globe retainer until it rests in place.
- Lift the globe assembly and attach it to the upper switch housing using the four thumbscrews. Tighten all four screws securely by hand.
⚠️ WARNING (GLASS FALL HAZARD): To prevent serious injury or death, make sure that glass is properly secured.
Turn Power ON.
Installing the Pull Chains
- Feed the pull chains from the fan switch and light switch down through the holes in the upper switch housing.
- Attach the pull chain pendants to the light and fan pull chains. Repeat for both chains.
The fan pull chain controls the speed: from high to off.
The light pull chain controls the light fixture: on and off.
Reversing the Fan
Ceiling fans operate in two directions: downdraft (counterclockwise rotation) for cooling breeze and updraft (clockwise rotation) for moving warm air downward.
To change direction: Turn the fan OFF and let it come to a complete stop. The reversing switch is located inside the light fixture (accessed when the glass is removed). Slide the switch to the opposite position and restart the fan.
Troubleshooting
Fan Doesn't Work
- Make sure the power switch is on.
- Check the circuit breaker to ensure power is turned on.
- Make sure the blades spin freely.
- Turn off power from the circuit breaker, then loosen the canopy and check all connections according to the wiring diagram.
Excessive Wobbling
- Make sure the blades are properly installed on the blade iron posts.
- Turn power off, support the fan carefully, and check that the hanger ball is properly seated.
- Use the provided balancing kit and instructions to balance the fan.
Noisy Operation
- Make sure the blades are properly installed.
- Check if any blades are cracked. If so, replace all blades.
Hunter Pro Tip: Cleaning the Fan Use soft brushes or cloths to prevent scratching. Cleaning products may damage the finishes.
