How to Use Your Zippo Lighter

How to Fill Your Zippo Lighter

An illustration shows a hand holding a Zippo lighter. The windproof shield and wick assembly are shown being removed from the lighter case. The cotton wadding inside the case is depicted as being soaked with lighter fluid. Finally, the wick assembly is shown being reinserted into the fluid-soaked wadding.
  1. Remove the windproof shield and wick assembly from the lighter case.
  2. Soak the cotton wadding with Zippo Premium Lighter Fluid. Do not overfill.
  3. Reinsert the wick assembly into the lighter case.
  4. Wipe away any excess fluid.
  5. Allow the fluid to saturate the wick for a few minutes before lighting.

How to Replace the Flint

A sequence of illustrations demonstrates replacing the flint. First, the wick assembly is removed. Then, a screw at the bottom of the lighter is shown being unscrewed to release the flint spring. The old flint is removed, and a new flint is inserted into the flint tube. The flint screw is reinserted, and finally, the wick assembly is put back into the lighter.
  1. Remove the windproof shield and wick assembly.
  2. Unscrew the flint screw located at the bottom of the lighter.
  3. Remove the old flint.
  4. Insert a new Zippo flint into the flint tube.
  5. Reinsert the flint screw and tighten it securely.
  6. Reinsert the wick assembly.

How to Adjust the Wick

An illustration shows how to adjust the wick. The wick is shown protruding from the wick tube. A pair of pliers is used to pull the wick up slightly. The wick is then shown being trimmed to the desired length.
  1. Remove the windproof shield and wick assembly.
  2. If the wick is too long, use pliers to pull the wick up slightly.
  3. Trim the wick to the desired length, ensuring it is flush with the top of the wick tube.
  4. Reinsert the wick assembly.

For optimal performance and longevity:

  • Always ensure the lighter is properly filled and assembled before use.
