Introduction
The JBL® OnBeat Xtreme™ speaker dock delivers ultimate sound for your iPod, iPhone, iPad, or other Bluetooth®-enabled devices. Integrated Bluetooth technology allows wireless music playback and control within a 10-meter range. You can stream high-quality audio and even make calls wirelessly. The rotatable dock allows you to orient your iPod, iPhone, or iPad in portrait or landscape mode. The included USB cable connects the JBL OnBeat Xtreme to your computer for charging your device or synchronizing it with your iTunes library.
Compatibility
The JBL OnBeat Xtreme system is compatible with most Bluetooth-enabled devices, music players, mobile phones, and laptops. With Bluetooth A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile), AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile), and HFP (Hands-Free Profile), the system can transmit high-quality sound and function as a hands-free speakerphone. The stereo AUX input allows for high-quality sound from a variety of devices, such as MP3 and CD players, desktop computers (all platforms), laptops, and satellite radios.

Connections
Connecting Adapter Clips for iPod/iPhone/iPad
Your JBL OnBeat Xtreme speaker dock comes with two adapter clips: one for iPod touch/iPod classic/iPhone and another for an iPad. (Note: iPod nano does not require an adapter clip.)
Attach the appropriate adapter clip to the JBL OnBeat Xtreme as shown. Rotate the rubber end caps to accommodate different iPad models and devices with third-party protective cases.
- iPod touch/iPhone: Use the dedicated clip.
- iPad: Use the iPad clip. You may need to slightly bend the clip to fit.
- iPad 2 with Smart Cover or devices with third-party cases: Use the iPad clip, potentially bending it slightly.
Connecting External Devices
To use your JBL OnBeat Xtreme with another audio source, connect one end of a 3.5 mm (1/8”) stereo mini-cable (not included) to the JBL OnBeat Xtreme Aux In port and the other end to the audio or headphone output of the external device.

Connecting to a TV
To display videos or photos from your iPod, iPhone, or iPad on a TV, connect one end of a composite video cable (not included) to the JBL OnBeat Xtreme Video Out port and the other end to the TV's composite video input.

Connecting to iTunes
Connect the included USB cable to the JBL OnBeat Xtreme USB port and a USB port on your computer that has your iTunes library. This allows you to synchronize your docked iPod/iPhone/iPad with iTunes (see 'Synchronizing with iTunes' on page 10).

Power Connection
Connect the included power cable to the JBL OnBeat Xtreme power input (AC In) and plug the power adapter into the wall outlet. The system will enter standby mode (the power button's status LED will glow orange). For more details, see the 'Power On/Off' section on page 4.

Operating Instructions
Control Elements
The JBL OnBeat Xtreme features several control buttons:
- Power/Standby: This button has multiple functions:
- If your JBL OnBeat Xtreme is in standby mode, press Power for approximately 2 seconds to turn the system on. The status LED will glow white.
- If your JBL OnBeat Xtreme is on, press Power for approximately 2 seconds to put the system into standby mode. The status LED will glow orange. In standby mode, the system remains connected to a Bluetooth device and will automatically turn on when a connected Bluetooth device receives a call.
- If your JBL OnBeat Xtreme is on, press and hold Power for more than 2 seconds to enter power-saving mode. The power button's status LED will turn off. In power-saving mode, the Bluetooth module is turned off to minimize power consumption. Note: The JBL OnBeat Xtreme does not automatically enter power-saving mode.
- Volume Up/Down: Use these buttons to increase or decrease the volume. Pressing both buttons simultaneously mutes or unmutes the device.
- Source Selection: Press this button repeatedly to cycle through audio sources: Bluetooth, iPod/iPhone/iPad Dock, AUX input. The source indicator LED changes color according to the selected audio source. Refer to 'Status and Source LEDs' on page 9.
- Bluetooth: Use this button to answer calls and perform other Bluetooth functions. See 'Bluetooth Pairing' on page 6, 'Receiving a Call from a Bluetooth-Enabled Device', and 'Making a Call from a Bluetooth-Enabled Device' on page 7.

Note: Pressing the Power button also puts a docked device into standby mode. When playing from a docked device, the JBL OnBeat Xtreme automatically enters standby mode if no button is pressed and no audio signal is present for 10 minutes.
Remote Control Functions
The JBL OnBeat Xtreme remote control allows you to turn the JBL OnBeat Xtreme on/off, adjust volume, select music from the docked device, switch audio sources, and change EQ settings.

Bluetooth Pairing
Before using your JBL OnBeat Xtreme System with a Bluetooth-enabled device, you must pair them.
Note: The maximum range for Bluetooth function is approximately 10 meters.
To pair your JBL OnBeat Xtreme System with your device, follow these steps:
- Ensure your JBL OnBeat Xtreme System is powered on (the status LED glows white).
- Ensure the JBL OnBeat Xtreme is in Bluetooth pairing mode (the source indicator LED blinks blue). If the LED is not blinking blue, press the source selection button repeatedly until the LED blinks blue.
- Put your Bluetooth-enabled device into pairing mode so both devices can 'see' each other (refer to the Bluetooth-enabled device's user manual for instructions on how to enter pairing mode). The JBL OnBeat Xtreme will appear as "OnBeat XT" on your Bluetooth-enabled device.
- If prompted by your device, enter the JBL OnBeat Xtreme password: 0000.
- The JBL OnBeat Xtreme System is successfully connected and ready for use when the blue source indicator LED glows solid blue (not blinking). The JBL OnBeat Xtreme will remain connected to the Bluetooth device even if you change the source or put the device into standby mode.
Note: Bluetooth pairing between two devices does not need to be repeated after a successful pairing, unless you delete the JBL OnBeat Xtreme System from the Bluetooth-enabled device's list of paired devices or disconnect the JBL OnBeat Xtreme's power cable. If the JBL OnBeat Xtreme is in connected Bluetooth mode, you can force it into Bluetooth pairing mode by holding the source selection button for at least 2 seconds (the source indicator LED will blink blue).
Listening to Music from a Bluetooth-Enabled Device
- Ensure your JBL OnBeat Xtreme System is connected to your Bluetooth-enabled device (see 'Bluetooth Pairing' on the left).
- Set the JBL OnBeat Xtreme System to Bluetooth source mode by pressing the source selection button repeatedly until the blue LED lights up.
- Navigate to the music player on your Bluetooth-enabled device and play music. For details on the music player and Bluetooth technology transmission, refer to the Bluetooth-enabled device's user manual.
- Control the music player using the Bluetooth-enabled device.
Handling Bluetooth Calls
Receiving a Call from a Bluetooth-Enabled Device
- Ensure the JBL OnBeat Xtreme System is connected (see 'Bluetooth Pairing' on page 6).
- When you hear the ringtone of your Bluetooth-enabled device through the JBL OnBeat Xtreme System, press the Bluetooth button to answer the call.
- To reject an incoming call, press and hold the Bluetooth button on the JBL OnBeat Xtreme for 2 seconds.
- To answer a second incoming call, put the first call on hold by pressing the Bluetooth button.
- To reject a second incoming call and continue the first call, press and hold the Bluetooth button on the JBL OnBeat Xtreme for 2 seconds.
- After ending the call, press the Bluetooth button to hang up.
The integrated microphone of the JBL OnBeat Xtreme System also allows it to be used as a hands-free speakerphone.

Making a Call from a Bluetooth-Enabled Device
- Ensure the JBL OnBeat Xtreme System is connected (see 'Bluetooth Pairing' on page 6).
- If no call is active and no call is incoming, you can initiate a call from the JBL OnBeat Xtreme System.
- After ending the call, press the Bluetooth button to hang up.
To mute a call, press both volume buttons on the JBL OnBeat Xtreme System simultaneously. To unmute the call, press either volume button on the JBL OnBeat Xtreme.
Docking iPod/iPhone/iPad
Note: When docking an iPod, iPhone, or iPad, you must set the device's 'Shake to Shuffle' function to 'Off'. Otherwise, the bass energy from the JBL OnBeat Xtreme may trigger this function on the device.
- To dock an iPod or iPhone, place the device onto the 30-pin connector, tilting the device slightly forward.
- Once the device is seated firmly in the connector, push it fully into the dock.

To dock an iPad, press the release button on the back of the dock to extend its docking base, then follow steps 1 and 2 above.

Rotating the Dock
When an iPod/iPhone/iPad is docked to the JBL OnBeat Xtreme speaker dock, you can rotate the dock to landscape mode.
To rotate the dock to landscape mode, turn it 90° counter-clockwise. Turn it 90° clockwise to return it to portrait mode. The dock holds the device in either portrait or landscape orientation.

Playing Video and Photo Files
When an iPod, iPhone, or iPad is docked to the JBL OnBeat Xtreme System, the video output of the iPod/iPhone/iPad is automatically deactivated, even if it was enabled before docking.
To enable video output from the JBL OnBeat Xtreme System, press and hold the Navigation Up button on the remote control for at least 2 seconds. The JBL OnBeat Xtreme source indicator LED will blink white once. The video from the iPod, iPhone, or iPad will be displayed on the connected TV.
To disable video output, press and hold the Navigation Down button on the remote control for 2 seconds. The JBL OnBeat Xtreme source indicator LED will blink white twice.
EQ Settings
The JBL OnBeat Xtreme dock has five Equalizer (EQ) presets to adjust the sound according to the program being played: Music (Standard), Movies, Chat, Internet Radio, or Games, in that order.
Use the remote control to switch the EQ setting for the active source as follows:
- Press and hold the Enter button on the remote. The EQ setting will advance to the next preset (e.g., Movies), and the source indicator LED will blink to confirm.
- With each press and hold of the Enter button, the equalizer will cycle through the presets: Movies, Chat, Internet Radio, or Games. The source indicator LED blinks each time the equalizer is switched.
- When the source indicator LED blinks twice, the equalizer has returned to Music mode.
Status and Source LEDs
The Status LED changes color to indicate the status of the JBL OnBeat Xtreme. The color of the Source indicator LED changes to provide information about the active source.

Synchronizing with iTunes
Note: Before synchronizing your iPod/iPhone/iPad with iTunes, ensure the device and iTunes are updated to the latest software version.
- Place your iPod/iPhone/iPad into the JBL OnBeat Xtreme Dock. Ensure it connects fully to the dock connector.
- Use your computer's iTunes software to synchronize the device with iTunes.
- After synchronization is complete, disconnect from iTunes.
Charging Docked iPod/iPhone/iPad
The JBL OnBeat Xtreme speaker dock charges your iPod or iPhone as soon as it is docked.
Note: The JBL OnBeat Xtreme speaker dock may not charge a docked iPad via every USB connection to a PC. If the iPad charges when directly connected to a PC via USB cable, it will also charge when docked to the JBL OnBeat Xtreme speaker dock. However, if the iPad does not charge when directly connected to a PC via USB cable, it will not charge when also connected to the JBL OnBeat Xtreme speaker dock.
Updating Firmware
Your JBL OnBeat Xtreme is equipped with firmware that can be updated with new features and improvements as they become available. Visit www.jbl.com for information on how to check the firmware version and for instructions on updating to a newer firmware version.
Resetting the System
You can reset your JBL OnBeat Xtreme to its factory settings at any time.
- The device must be powered on (the status LED glows white).
- Simultaneously press and hold the Power button and the Source selection button for approximately 5 seconds.
JBL OnBeat App
You can download the JBL OnBeat App for free from the iTunes App Store. It includes a music browser, an alarm clock, and EQ functions for the best sound for your music, movies, games, chat, or internet radio.
